tbf he's in the copying phase, so he may hit these shading techniques without knowing, there's a video where they found the exact AI image reference he used for the color drawings. But hey, I'm not taking out credit here, he's progress is still amazing for someone with short experience in drawing, plus it's nice to see a lot of people being inspired by his progress.
@@SmoopyGablooydon't compare yourself with others luv ❤ copying the coloring of an art is also a good practice so maybe you could follow pewds too! Or if you're not ready yet to take action, just do analyzing first, see the artist that you like and analyze their artwork! Hope this can make you improve faster 😊
Wish that logic could apply to me. I've been a Photoshop artist for about 6 years and drawing for about 3 and I still have trouble with coloring especially when it's from imagination
The difference between people who say they’ve been drawing for 3 years and pewdiepie is he was always actively trying to improve himself. Most people just keep drawing and don’t really think about how they could improve their art, yes it takes practice to improve your art but it also takes knowing what to practice to improve your art and learning more things about drawing.
@@jambonzer1603 I disagree, it’s not hard to find out what you need to work on by studying others work and lloking at your art yourself and seeing what you can approve upon. There are a bunch of great and amazing videos on RU-vid that teach you all sorts of things, it’s up to you whether you can follow those and make improve upon your art. Discipline is something you learn not have a natural talent for, other may have an easier time but just like art it’s something you work and improve upon by fixing the errors you have with it.
@@hikari4415 The ability to " train " your discipline is something you gain from your early years of brain development and if you can always improve, you can't drastically change your base in the spectrum. You can easily find what's wrong with your art but being able to fix it even in front of the best step by step tutorial is another story.
Yep never said improving was easy, it takes a lot of practice to improve on anything. I was just saying actively trying to improve is different than just doing it without any thought of improving@@jambonzer1603
Yeah i mean he already did work with photoshop and he was doing edits a lot of time so he have some skills specially in colors that's why he blasted trough it in few days also he have good mindset instead of putting him self down constantly he just push trough and keeps going.
@@thechosenone729 yeah 100% he's also sat down and just gone "right, we're actually going to learn" where as most of us didn't bother to properly learn to draw until a year or 2 into our journey cuz we only wanted to draw hot anime girls (or men) ignoring anatomy and structure because that wasn't what we were thinking about.
@@BreadedNuggetssi agree with you, lol. i've been drawing for a solid six years and four of those years was just me exploring art styles but never even considering the thought of anatomy :'). i've only been realizing how anatomy is such a crucial part in artwork recently.
I think his background in graphic design DEFINITELY gave him some good foundations for his challenge! Which goes to show that dipping your toes into other forms of art can often be super helpful even if you don't think it will be
Im the opposite, I've been drawing since I was a little kid, and him drawing for 100 days already looks much better than my drawings, It just makes me feel like Im never going to improve further 😭
@@flyingorange2482 i'd like to point out Felix did not just start from scratch if you look into his history before becoming a youtuber he already dabled into art way before fairly decently he is just going back into it now.
It has been a while since I sat down to enjoy a Pewdiepie video, but I also remember being there back before he hit 1M subscribers. Seeing him gain new skills and enjoy/suffer the process of learning just because he wanted to was a joyful experience to watch. This is a great video. I think all your insights and reactions to his journey are well-founded and also similar to mine-the way you point out how healthy certain habits he has are a great step in normalizing the fact that progress isn't always linear. When I watched him correct his mistakes from an earlier drawing he did, it immediately reminded me of your Tiktoks where you draw over your old painting to adjust the linework and proportions! All in all, I think it is inspiring feat especially when he's so transparent about his struggles along the way. Whether it's to beginner artists or pros like yourself, there is something to be gained from the authenticity of his art and mindset. I appreciate that you took the time to make this video and point out your own thoughts and even validated so much of his feelings as someone with over 3 years of art learnings under your belt. Even though I didn't know for sure if you were going to upload a reaction video, I found myself hoping you would provide some commentary about it on any platform because you're one of the first artists I always think of. You are intelligent in both critical analysis (when you pointed out Pewds' using line weight, I wouldn't have noticed it myself!) and actually applying and refining the techniques you suggest for improvement. Sorry this was a long comment. Thanks for the video as always!
same! I remember watching him way back, so it's definitely a little bittersweet to see how far he's come and inspiring to watch him learn new skills. a super underrated part of learning art is definitely the mindset you have to have going into it, so tysm :) and wow thank you so much for supporting me on both youtube and tiktok! I really do love adjusting linework and proportions of old paintings, I think it's a great learning process and helps you see how far you've grown as an artist hehe totally agree as well, I found myself not really liking the works I've been doing recently. But after watching his video and noticing his healthy mindset, I not only felt inspired to keep drawing, but also to go back to the basics and do a deeper dive into learning anatomy, expressions, etc. Though im definitely nowhere near pro (but i appreciate it so much that you think so :'D)!! i'm truly so so glad, i should be thanking you for leaving such a thoughtful comment! art is definitely a fun and challenging journey that allows a lot of self-reflection, which is scary yet very rewarding-your feelings are definitely 1000% valid! i'm happy i was able to quickly put this video together because insightful comments like yours honestly make my entire day and spark such great discussions! and no need to apologize for a longer comment, if anything, i appreciate them so much more as you took the time to write such a kind and thoughtful response :D thank YOU!!
His first drawing video was the reason I got into drawing. Been wanting to try it out for a long time but always hesitated and thought it was a waste of time but for some reason that video was the push I needed to start drawing. I'm about 2 weeks in total and I'm surprised to see significant improvement now compared to when I started
I appreciate your perspective that any kind of practice is better than nothing. I think as a complete noob, and maybe some people will relate with me, I haven’t practiced drawing much because I am scared of learning the “wrong way” like only drawing things that are fun or copying a reference exactly. But it seems like this might not be such a bad idea as long as it can consistently get pen onto paper so I am now inspired to practice drawing more.
this video of his is one of if not the biggest motivation boosts i had in my life, wow and those videos like yours really help the non-artist like me to analize this, thank you
crazy how he managed to learn to add line weight to his drawings. I dont know if he did that on purpose or not, i sometimes do it on accident but either way its really impressive
What made me feel motivated to color again is pewdiepie. Out of all the artist, it's pewdiepie. Among numerous artists that are soo good , this guy is the key. I don't really color much and I'm not so good at coloring but when i saw him progressing from his day 1 art to the present makes me want to go back.
Sheesh, I've always had the dream of being a professional artist, idk it should be encouraging watching this but it also feels terrible to see he's already a better artist than me after only three months of practice
Just to piggyback that last point, yes practice, but you can supercharge your learning by breaking it down into micro skills, then learning from a mentor (RU-vid) then applying that enhanced micro skill into general practice ❤
100% agree. I’m redrawing panels from the webtoon To the Stars and Back and it’s really helping me to not only learn storyboarding and bubble placement, but also the artist’s style, which I really adore. It also helps me put things into practice and learn a lot, eg. if I was studying clothing folds before. I wish I started doing this earlier
0:23 keep in mind pewdiepie had some art experience with photoshop art before he did RU-vid which is also why when it comes to color shading he’s basically a pro. Still really impressive.
Really cool video and I love your art!! Just one small thing, at 3:23 I'm pretty sure that the time displayed is just the length of the timelapse video if you were to export it. The actual time it took for you to draw the piece can be found in Settings > Canvas > Canvas Information > Statistics, there should be a stat called tracked time. Looking forward to your future content :)
The time you checked at 3:20 is not the actual time it took to create the piece. It's the length of the time-lapse replay. To find out how long a piece actually took, go to the Actions tab (the wrench icon) > Canvas > Canvas Information > and Statistics to see the tracked time in the document. It's probably going to show a shorter time than you initially thought.
your commentary is far much better than koolen honestly. I love how you are very amazed by his progress and I, as an artist is also very proud of him. Amazing video :D
This is the best video anyone made about his art journey so far. I'm so proud of him!? This whole thing just makes me smile haha Great video, viyaura ❤
its always nice seeing someone thats bad at drawing improve over time and prove that you can always train to be better but it actually is mind boggling seeing someone talented and how fast they can improve with the correct mindset
I bet if you put your art side by side and tracking it like that you'd see your improvement better though. As we do more art we consume more and more knowledge as so artist kinda get used to their own progress sometimes
@@flyingorange2482 Well, then it depends how important improving is to you. If you draw for fun and you like your art as is, that's good in itself. If you wanna improve your art then you can't just keep drawing the same thing, you need to step out of your comfort zone. Art really is kinda like going to the gym, once you're comfortable you need to push harder again and again. Some people improve naturally as they consume other art and draw new things, some people like what they do and don't change. It's all good
@@drendraleigh4722 BS. Art is nothing like gym. Gym has plan, you follow and there is results from it. Art is not only done by plan, thats why all the artists always say "YoU LeArNeD wRoNg" as soon as someone tells them how long they practiced. In the gym, a bulker can straight tell you to your face, that your body type will never get to where he is, they just can be real, instead of preaching false positivity
I'm also a lil' art baby, I actually probably started at about the same time as Felix. I think my progress has been, decent, but compared to him his progress feels monumental, and clearly above "average". I'm amazed by his hair parts and shading with the eyes and hair etc. Hair parts and shading always seem to trip me up for the longest! He also GENUINELY seems like he's enjoying himself more, well he pretty much said as much with how he draws for longer than 10 minutes, so I wonder if he'll get into digital art?
PewDiePie's video shows how much you can grow in a 100 days if you practise well, sure not everyone will reach the exact same heights as he did, but you can learn a lot. The only trouble is being consistent for 100 days.
Loved to see and in depth analysis of his video. For me it was just inspiring seeing his amazing progress in 100 days, and also reminded me that it’s okay to do simpler stuff, or just what I like! Instead of over challenging me constantly making me not want to draw haha Just having fun doing it feels nice
I’ve been drawing for about 4 years and I feel like my art has stopped getting better but I also feel like I am getting better. Like I don’t draw how I want to draw. I draw eyes too big, the hair isn’t detailed enough, the shadows are done poorly, so I dunno. The only thing with my art I’m happy with is how I draw bodies which is very androgynous
Dude, I started drawing again last year by learning a big book and some PDFs I got online. I think it worth to watch that video and start my own challenge.
The hardest thing is to stay consistent and keep working on your weaknesses.....I can attest to that point a lot, even though I know I'm not a terrible artist, I will stop for years on end because I lose motivation to improve and get busy with other things.
I honestly, i don't know how artists can draw for multiple days straight. Big respect for artist that are motivated enough to do that, could never be me honestly 😢
He had to be some kind of prodigy, it took me about a year to learn how to properly draw faces from references let alone from imagination and he went ahead and improved this much in 100 days
that's so good that i'm curious about number of filled pages outside his sketchbook, i love that colored pages. i'm jealous and also shame of my strawman enthusiasm
I have been repeatedly drawing one of my ocs for awhile. Looking back at how I started, I realized improvement is not just for someone else, but me and everyone else who likes to draw.
I normally use my dolls for reference of drawing or just ask someone orto stand and do the pose and then just keep sitting drying doing the posting drawing doing the pose. It’s hard.
I started drawing when I was 8 yo. When I was 13 a friend introduced me to the world of manga, anime and Homestuck, and I bought my first Wacom a couple of months later. I drew whenever I was inspired and spent about 18 hours with a single drawing (I hated it afterwards). At 17 yo I felt that it was a farce, I compared myself to other artists my age or even younger who were prodigies... Today I am 24 years old and since I saw Felix's video I felt a burst of inspiration again after so many years . I'm plugging my tablet in again and looking for references of things I love so I can try again.
some ppl may ask hiw he managed to improve so fast so im here to explain ! Lets keep in mind that he is 30+ this means that he has better handgrib and pen controll because he is just older and ppl in this age improve faster than younger ppl like me (16 y.o) so dont worry guys yall will be good artists too it needs time and practise :)
I was so surprised with how much he progressed in his first video i started drawing again too, which i stopped doing 12 years ago because of how intense studying got at college. It also oddly makes me feel good that he is cracked at color as i am. Sorry for the little long story i'm going to share. The reason i started drawing in high school was because I actually always loved drawings ( i got interested in my wife because she drew as a hobby and i liked her works) but i was absolutely horrible at it, i didn't understand anatomy at all, i was only good at drawing rooms and i always got frustrated when i couldn't plaster the image on my mind onto the paper, it was seriously frustrating so i didn't last a month. But then one day our art teacher got a leave for pregnancy and the temporary teacher got us to draw rectangles in perspective, told us to pick any color and to imagine a light was shining from the perspective point. The teacher got as excited as i was happy with how the coloring turned out, she asked to show her my other works from that year. Of course i felt very ashamed at being able to to color so good but suck at drawing and I think she understood that and encouraged me and the following week she called me up as the recess bell rung, gave me an anatomy book and carefully explained me how i should use it. That very same day i started drawing every single day with very noticeable progress towards the 6th month (so a bit more than 2 times slower than felix) Pewds vid came right at a time i was bored out of my mind with current state of gaming so i've dove into drawing and i can say i'm happy with my baby steps and how my art has become better than when i left it at 12 years ago.
Thank you for your reaction to this, I'm happy to see more people congratulating him and standing alongside what he is teaching, rather than the loud minority beating him up on twitter. ♥
I think Felix has a bit of knowledge about layering and shading already considering he used to do photoshop art and also sell them when he just started out with youtube. It's probably been years since he has made one but I think it certainly helps which is good :D
Thats the thing, i met some people that want to get into art but just feels discourage to start because they thought they're too old now and its too late to be good at it. AND THIS VIDEO (I meant Felix's 100 days video) is a true testament that NO, ITS NOT TOO LATE TO DO ART and YES ANYONE CAN DO IT. Problem with some beginners is that they wanna take the easy way but thats not how art works, sure you can find ways to speed up the process but you still have to put in the work like Felix did. Dude is a 34 years old and a father and still managed to draw THIS GOOD within only 100 days. You have to remember Felix never drawn before until recently and if a swedish idiot can do it YOU CAN TOO.
The reason why he does decent progress over such a short period of time, is because he has common sense. Which... You'd be very surprised how much common sense the 90% of people on the Internet lack. Felix's number one reason for improving is proper reflection, following by focusing only on one area. People will draw the face and then complain about not being better at anatomy. Like yeah, that's literally your fault. But the issue is people will complain about this and then NOT try to focus on it. They just go back to what they're comfortable with. I've been friends with people who 'drew' everyday, and then talk about how they don't have talent because their proportions for the body are, or how they're horrible at actually coloring. Well yes, you are, but it's not because of a lack of talent, it's because you lack the common sense to actually go and practice that specific area you go out of your way to shoot yourself in the head for with negative comments.
