Simon, if Tobi is right on one thing with the minimal follow through thing, its that taking a bigger swing is actually impactful. It doesnt matter how hard or weak you hit it, if you take a swing 1 inch away from the ball. That way its gonna be a weak shot, so take a bigger swing to hit harder.
