Hi Dave! Physicist here! You are able to slide uphill due to momentum conservation. The acceleration Mario feels downward takes time to convert his forward momentum into backwards momentum, thus allowing you to (briefly) slide uphill.

I was not prepared for Dave turning into a Disney princess there at the end.

As a physicist, in order for mario to slide uphill like that, he must have the strength of a bodybuilder x 50.

1:42 due to konservation of momentum, this could actually work. You just need to be moving fast enough to negate the friction and the 9.81g. To kill an enemy with that, Mario just needs to be super massive. We've already seen that he's an absolute unit!

The snowball level was probably located in the southern hemisphere, which is upside-down. That's why you were able to slide uphill.

In the first level, the key door actually is the true ending. It respawns the munchers giving you 2 free 1-ups when you touch the goal.

The sliding up hill thing is beacaues of inertia, if an object is in motion it will stay in motion until effected by another force (same with staying still)

If you jump straight up, you obviously go up for a little while before you stop and start to fall. Running up a hill is a like jumping straight up but gravity isn't pulling completely opposite the way you're going, so you might expect to go farther before you stop. (That depends on the friction between you and the ramp, but you get the idea.)

It never surprises me how dave can always snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
