@ You have to be willing to risk looking cringy in order to get anything done, creating ironic distance and distancing yourself from everything is pussy shit
Matt's humanity and feeling have been real milestones on my road to being who I am today. I hope he knows that this stuff he does means something. His crying on periscope has given me deep insight into solidarity and love, no joke. I love you Matt, thank you.
@@jayanti2371 He used to do streams on a website named periscope and he did one when Corbyn got a hung parliament in a major upset. He starts out celebrating, but he gets very real, cries a bit and talks about why he's a socialist. He talks about how our political enemies believe they deserve everything, because they were born with everything. And he can't abide that and it's beautiful and it makes me weep like a baby every time! I think it's on youtube, I'll look it up...
Unborn Chicken “the cool zone” as in those parts of history you like learning about as a kid because they are cool or exciting to read about while obviously being very uncool to live through. For e.g WW2 or the french revolution.
Matt, you're one of the most incredible people I've ever encountered. These vlogs of yours have helped me grow as a person so much... Please know that you're loved all across the world. Stay safe, stay strong...
I feel like when Matt talks about how the dumbest things in satire are becoming real life the idea of a cop disinterestedly killing a man is an extension of that
What really strikes me about this is how true a lot of what Lenin said about the uncertainty and malleability of revolution is. Like he clashed with various comrades over stuff like the Easter Rising specifically because he didn't obsess over there being a "right way" for the revolution to occur. There are wrong ways, but there is not a single correct path. "Either they do not know the facts of life, do not see what actually exists and are unable to look the truth in the face, or they confine themselves to abstractly comparing ’capitalism’ with ’socialism’ and fail to study the concrete forms and stages of the transition that is taking place in our country." The uncertainty the Bolshevik faced is becoming really tangible to a lot of us, as it was not just a matter of size, but a matter of people who are discontent but have no clue what to do about it even when revolution or revolt of some form occurs. Like Matt's point about not trying to recreate the October Revolution is spot on, and a sentiment that fucking Lenin himself talked about directly. Revolutions are built on a dozen failed ones. for Russia you had 1905, Irish history is a series of failed revolts that often never even got to start before being put down, etc etc etc. End of the day there is never "The" capital T revolution. Just attempts at gaining some power, or shifting something, building some structure even if that structure is just revolving around having failed before. i am glad I am not alone in thinking of this as similar to 1905 more than anything. And yeah nothing is certain, 1917 was never certain even day to day.
I’ve never felt in tune with someone else’s feelings about a situation than I do right now. Powerful vlog and I agree wholeheartedly. Was in the streets yesterday and will continue until we get what we deserve.
Thank you Matt. Amazing to have these vlogs. It's easy to be cynical, and I have been, but these videos have encouraged me to act more and reach out to more people about this crazy shit
Stop crying Matt, the countryside is moving. It's a step behind as always. Farmers didn't get electricity until the late 20s/30s. We're marching in a town of 10,000 today.
Protest was good, just a little march and some speeches but 3-400 people showed up. Don Lemon mentioned us! Lol. If they were the ones flying the god damn weedwacker drone, you made it pretty hard to hear the speakers you pricks. Who needs an overhead shot of the entire speaking portion? Anyway the countryside around here is moving, I'm gonna make a compilation of speeches from live streams and blast it. Probably put it on the internet. Keep it up!
During all of this I find myself sinking deeper and deeper into working on my Dungeons & Dragons campaign and playing over discord. It is therapeutic to build my own little worlds right now because ours is so fucked.
The breakdown of how the Internet sucks is so underrated and much appreciated here. See also the book, a novel actually, called “I hate the internet.” It’s funny too.
There's some very basic things that we take for granted like the sheer number of military people who become politicians in America. It's way more than here in Britain and its not normal to have that level of military presence in your supposedly representative democracy, when as you say they're supposed to pride themselves on being apolitical.
Bless you Matt, we need organization and leadership, i’m scared too brother, if we can’t manage some real solidarity and action with a singular intent we’re fucked
Matt is right.. we are only building the foundation of the building. But the foundation is the most important part. It's pointless to have a statue with clay feet.
An essay in the dark star collective’s book “quiet rumors” goes into detail about how revolutionary Spain didn’t just appear out of nowhere. It took 75 years for them to build the revolutionary conditions it required to build a revolutionary society. Matt’s grill offers us a way there.
the saddest thing of all of this is that our moment is not comparable to 1905 Russia, we are more similar to interwar Weimar Germany, especially when you consider the legitimacy the military held in the minds of it's people in both countries.
