Same here I use condor original ready rub and I like that very rearly try anything else but clan is nice too. Conamara black is nice too but takes awhile to get used to
You are blessed with a genuine, welcome, relaxing style that goes hand in glove with the hobby, so thank you, sir, for sharing your blessed gifts. Wonderful, contemplative, smoky content that is a pleasure to watch! Thank you, and God bless you and yours. Happy smokes!
Fantastic stuff Mark. As good as I've seen. I had no Brick and Mortar Store near by. I had to learn everything from the internet. I'm 6 months in and so far so good. This will help people a lot. Thanks my friend.
You are welcome there are so many pitfalls in this hobby and I didn't want it to sound off putting in the video but the great thing about this community is one persons hate is another's love 👍
Just a bit late to this but wanted to comment. Great advice! I wish I had found your video a month or two ago when I began my journey into the Pipe. It would have saved me hours of time I spent researching pipes, tobaccos and techniques. I ended up doing exactly you say, I bought two Missouri Meerschaums, one being a $7 Missouri Pride and the other a $20 Diplomat. I pretty much almost ruined the Missouri Pride because I was still learning to pack and how to smoke. I like my cigars. A month into it, I think I finally got the pack and smoking down as I'm enjoying a full bowl with only maybe one relight. I might be ready to move onto a Peterson or Savinelli without fear that I'll ruin them. Thank you for this and I'm hoping more new pipe smokers find this straight away. Cheers from the USA!
Thank you , great video . Have only been serious about pipe smoking for about 3 months . Bought my first pipes 20 years ago but could never get off the cigarettes . Live in southwest Michigan and all the pipe shops are gone these days around me but like you said there is a wealth of knowledge on RU-vid , that includes you 🙂 Really enjoying MM cob pipes right now . Thanks again Bernie
Have been smoking a pipe on-and-off for 40 yrs, but only now enjoying the corn cobs. Think I've travelled the path in reverse! Really excellent pipes at the price and the flavour from them beats any meerschaum in my humble opinion.
Great video 👌 I’m looking into starting, albeit in a small way! Have a Petersons Donegal Rocky 69 I acquired 10 years ago by accident. Not a smoker , I’m funnily curious. Great advice. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Hi Mark, You did a Great Job, easy to follow, and understand the Good or the Bad of smoking a pipe and it's tobaccos !! Great video !! on our Hobby. Thanks for sharing.........Jose from Texas
I just started and im really enjoing it , just learned to do the "breath method" that what some called it but it has help a lot with bite and dont have to re lit the pipe over and over with aromatics. Thanks for the video ✌🏽 watching from cali.
You should grow your own tobacco. I've been curing leaves in the sun and it only takes a couple of days until they turn into delicious smoking tobacco good for cigars or pipes. That's the whole reason I'm getting into pipe smoking, it's more convenient and enjoyable than rolling cigars and paper cigarettes - and I've never liked the fixed size and the wastage involved with these rolled tobacco sticks.
Just looking for a way to relax and unwind in the evenings without getting heavy into a vice . Looks like it would make one pull back and take it easy . A simple relaxing task (after getting the procedure down) with a nice pleasant reward . We’ll see.
I try to keep a few extra Missouri Meershaum pipes on hand to give to a new pipe smoker...also will give them a few vleaners and tobacco, along with a pipe tool.
I smoke cigars but i like pipes. I have just tried a few times. Long ago. My fabourite swedish fishing celebraty Bengt Öste was known for smoking pipe, abd i remember when i was a kid thatvit looked cool. If i buy a pioe i am sure i would love it!
Great video, all the information you need at the start. I'm just a beginner myself, started in February and I'm at the stage where I'm abut to buy my third pipe (really like bulldog) which will be fot elizabethian mixture only which turned out to be my favourite, initially I loved aromatics and American delight was hitting the spot but very quickly my taste changed and now I prefer natural taste. So there you go, you are spot on with everything you say. Cheers
Great advice Mark. I really enjoyed this video. I'm loving my cobs, not sure I'll move on to briars, but my piping just started so who knows? Keep up the good work. Happy piping.
Fantastic vlog, just starting out on my pipe journey at 50, grandad dad and uncle all smoked pipes I got off the fags years ago and been vaping since, was totally drawn to pipes couple of months ago and lapping up the knowledge people like yourself are passing on big thanks
Thanks for uploading this video. Great info for new pipe smokers. I have smoked a pipe since about 2006 and smoked cigars before that (mostly Castella Classics and King Edward Coronets that were easily found at supermarkets). I now have six pipes including two Falcons and don't ever spend much on pipes or tobacco. Pipe smoking can be taken in whatever direction someone wants to take it in and this video is a really good way for people to grasp the early stages of getting into smoking a pipe. Big fan of Squadron Leader, Skiff Mixture and Peterson Standard Mixture and I also keep a fair amount of a cherry aromatic (Gawith Hoggarth) amongst my tobaccos as that's what I started with. I have a tin of Chieftain Blacksmiths Blend on the way to me that you have reviewed - look forward to trying it out. Cheers!
Many thanks for this Video. I realy enjoyd it and strongly recommend to take time to watch from the beginning till the end. I've just bought my first pipe and looking forward to the new journey.
Mark watched the whole VR well done my brother! I need to do one using myself as an example of all the things you shouldn’t do and give the experience. So I just passed my one year as well smoking a pipe! I appreciate ya bro!🍭🐓👶
Thanks for taking time for sharing this very information, all correct, nonetheless when it comes to tobacco choices and pipes I wouldn't necessarily suggest smoking those great British OTC classics to rookies, even I wanted to do so, Why one may ask?Cuz those do pack quite a punch of nicotine and are perhaps too rich in taste, instead, some light to medium semi' aromatic a la Danish mod might be a better choice, granted often those are more prone to bite but lighter in nic and taste not so pronounced ,as for pipes I'd opt for refurbished estates or medium price range Straight billiard, Blakemar briars in mind ,or parker /Gbds , Best Greets, and thanks for these valuable pieces of information, Paul
Great video Mark. I have noticed over the years that not just my taste in tobaccos has change but my taste in pipes also. Last year for instance I smoked nothing but corncobs and this year it has been straight billiards. It's a funny thing really probably next year will be all bents, lol.
Excellent advise. My grandfather bought me my first pipe..a basket.. When I lived with him aged 16. I'm 48 now !. He always had a pipe in his hand. With st Bruno flake:) went back to pipe smoking a few years ago when my late mother was dieing..she loved the smell! Even when she was unconscious at the end it was obvious she could smell the St Bruno on me. I'd definitely recommend a Falcon of some sort for a beginner or anyone really. My favorite is the Coolway 81 church warden. Falcons are Affordable and very good IMHO. Nasal snuff is another interesting avenue towards enjoying nicotine:) Vv cheap and gives me a nice "kick" but snuff is a whole different subject..
Hey Mark, great advice. I have been smoking on and off for about 2 years. I have bought about 8 new pipes and several country gentlemen. I find the 2 Peterson that I have with plip, I seem to get more flavor from them, so maybe I will go the Peterson route. Take care now
I started the hobby about 6 years ago and quit after 6 month. Now i have recently picked up a pipe again and found that i can't get hold of some of the blends i used to enjoy
I've just bought a cheapy pipe And some nice tobacco... Can't wait to sit in the country side somewhere and pretend to be 20 years older than I am :D... Fed up with the cigars, best ones I ever had, what I could get here in the UK was Hav A Tampa, they are now discontinued and I can't find anything with a nice aroma or taste. I have ordered some Principe Chicos as a final attempt to find a decent priced aromatic and good flavoured cigar.. See how they go. Have been wanting to try a pipe for a while though. As a kid, at my grandparents, they bought me a pipe as I was infatuated with Sherlock Holmes, I had the hat and everything, I never forget one day I was naughty and filled the pipe bowl with paper.. ... and lit it. A very unpleasant experience for a 7 or 8 year old......
My father recieved a pipe as a gift over 25 years ago. He only smoked it a handful of times. When my parents divorced I took it but only dabbled with it. Now, 28 years later I’ve decided to pull it out and give it a try. It is a Jobey Pride 200 very nice or seems to me as I don’t know. Anyway as a beginner I’ve been using aromatics, my current fav is Tinderbox After Dinner. Anyway my question is, for a beginner, what is a good tobacco that isn’t an aromatic? Thanks.
Great stuff and congratulations on entering the world of pipe smoking. My favourite non aromatic is g l pease Westminster (if you're in the states) as it is a nice introduction to latakia and oriental blends. Some plain Virginia's have for me to much of a cigarette taste but as you get into pipe smoking you might find a bowl of those now and again help cleanse your pallet. Enjoy my friend 👍
The only one is the Cuban cigar shop in Newcastle but sadly it's closing its doors at the end of the month. Online I use the black swan shoppe they're based in Whitby and Scarborough 👍
Have you tried fine cut a cigar and smoke it through the pipe? Does it work as pipetobacco? Besides smoking cigar i have for a longvtime made my own snus, so i am familiar with virginia, burley, latika snd such. I often blend in some Havanna tobacco. I would imagine they taste great as pioetobacco. In your opinion, what is best with the taste of pipes vs cigars?
Oh absolutely. If I get a cigar that doesn't smoke well I'll chip it up and add it to some plain tobacco that I find isn't good on its own I find it works well. I usually finish the last bit of my cigars in a pipe just pop the butt in the bowl and carry on but be careful as you can get a big nicotine hit. That's a hard question as you can get good and bad in both so I'm still 50/50 on that one. As much as I like cigars and vice versa it's always good to break it up from time to time. 👍
Are there any UK pipers out there that would like to swap tobaccos? It could be a good way of passing on some blends that are not so treasured and help us try more blends?
I love cigars and I've tried smoking a pipe for 12 months, I've got good quality pipes and good quality tabacco, I've watched hundreds of videos, I've packed loose I've packed tight, I've sipped the pipe and I've sucked the ass out of a pipe abs I probably get one half tidy smoke in five. I find it deeply frustrating, I get tongue burn, gurgling pipe and multiple multiple lights. I'm very close to giving up but I don't want to.
@@fractalofgod6324 I know how you feel the thing about pipes is one day it'll just pop and you'll get your stride ive paid good money for pipes that have smoked horrible yet paid £20 for a basket pipe which is one of my favourites try a non aromatic as they can cause tongue bite and gurgling sometimes the pipe isn't suited to the tobacco try a plain flake and dry the tobacco out slightly and let me know how you get on 👍
@@fractalofgod6324 if you're based in the USA try Maltese falcon by G L Pease saying that you're spoiled for choice as I've not had a bad tobacco from their range. If UK try revour plug or the typical over the counter blends like condor st Bruno etc 👍
Mostly uk now as its not worth the risk of getting your parcel caught at customs you could give smoking pipes. Com a try but not sure how things are with the covid 19 carry on 👍
A costly exercise? A corncob and a $10 tin of 965. Or even better... a Dr.Grabow Omega and a tin of Early Morning Pipe. You stuff it in the big hole end, and set it on fire. That's all there is to it.
