For those of you who loved the contemporary piece and want to know what the lyrics say, it's towards the father of the songwriter, basically the lyrics are: Father It’s been a while since we’ve telephoned How have you been living? Father The words that you have said to me I more and more understand Father Remember when I left home At the time you didn’t say any words Father Now I just want to hug you just once Tightly, Hug you just once more I am in Qinhua (?) You are in Qinhua(?) (?) You’re slowly getting older I am slowly growing up It was you who told me not to think of home You are in Qinhua(?) I am in Qinhua(?) It was you who taught me to fear nothing anywhere I go I am not home I hope you are healthy and safe Your wish, I will answer with love Your wish, I will answer with love Watch the video again, 2:05 - the dancer does a swimming motion to the lyric "when i left home" and when the lyric says "now I just: want to hug you" the dancer extends his arms in pain at 2:27 and hugs according to the lyric, at 3:01-3:08, watch the dancer interpret the lyric "You're slowly getting older, I am slowly growing up" Then 3:10-3:15 - "It was you who told me not to think of home" (watch as the dancer smile to "it was you" and change his expression to sadness to "who told me not to think of home") The dancer's story is that he left home when he was 8 years old, he remembers his mother taking him to Beijing to get into a school there, (schooling in rural areas is really bad, everyone wants to go to school in Beijing) and didn't have money for a cab, so they took the bus, he used to get motion sickness on buses and throw up, and his mom wouldn't let his throw-up touch the floor, and cupped her hands and held it for 20 stops.... His father had surgery in 4 places, and still wanted him to leave home and go to school in Beijing, that even though his father was going through pain, he didn't want to spend any money on himself but instead would want all of the money to be spent on school. The song and dance was a dedication to them. I hope this helps you who loved that performance but didn't understand the lyrics or the dancer's story. Hope now you really really appreciate it as much as I did.
