I’m 15 and watching this cuz I really want to learn film and screenwriting it is a passion of myself but I don’t wanna end up saying that I regret that degree
I'm 17 and i'm watching this because of my crippling self- doubt and expectations from my family and myself. I love filmaking, but it's quite a gamble choosing to follow this career path, so samsies, i guess
The only way you won't regret anything in your life is if you stop thinking too much about what you should or are supposed to do and just do. Do whatever your bones are aching to do and go in the direction your heart steers you. When you do, you will find happiness; and you will also find sorrow, you'll make mistakes just as you'll make victories, you'll hurt, just as you'll hurt others. But in the end, despite all of that, you will have no regrets - and that's when you will know that you have found your calling.
I am a freshman in high school, and film has always been a passion for me. I feel like at my age, it is important to have some general idea of what you want to do. If you don’t, that’s fine too. But, there are classes I should take to prepare for the future. Also i am the type of person to get everything done as soon as possible.
This video came out when I was a sophomore in high school as a prospective film major. I am now a junior in college and a film major and I feel like you're having a more traditional experience than me in terms of concepts and grading. But everything definitely rings true. So interesting to see my before and after perspectives of this video. Has been one of my faves ever on youtube.
I appreciate the advice!! I'm majoring in media studies right now, I know many people think it's a worthless degree but film is my passion so I'm trying to stay positive!
I feel like i KNOW YOU.... Your personality and delivery is So RAW and dry humor has me in awe. Do u know how hard it is to find a youtube video of people just being themselves and straight to the point? ...harder than it should be..this was refreshing...and i LOVED every corny punchline..super dope. Going to look for me. Keep it going sis...#blackgirlmajestics
I’m a sophomore in high school and I’m trying to find out if I want to go into the arts, a/v tech, and communication and I feel I do deep in my gut but I’m scared. Will it all be for nothing? Am I good enough? Should I apply my skills to something more practical? Will I like it enough? Am I thinking this through? Ughhh
im a law student but this major drained my energy so much i want to do what i used to like as a child and its filmmaking , screenwritting creative writting and all of that but im so confused should i follow my passion in this highly competitive field or following my mind
Any tips for a college freshman? I love making videos, and I want to work within the film industry. I’m not the best, but my desire to chase what I love is strong, but sometimes I get discouraged when I see that it’s very unlikely some people will be successful in filmmaking.
So you major in cinema and media studies? Where? I'm planning to apply to colleges in the fall. I'm hoping to minor in film, but I'm still doing my research as to where the best film programs/departments are.
Just changed my major to a course that focuses on Film, however they require we take up a minor outside of film and Its so hard trying to find a minor that compliments my major but at the same time is different lol if that makes sense< and i love hearing your perspective on this too ! New Subscriber !!
the first thing that comes to my mind (that I'm thinking of minoring in myself!) is sociology! It doesn't really have anything to do with film BUT I personally think it's super important bc 1. Sociology is an important subject for everyone to learn about, regardless of what area of study they choose to enter and 2. for film majors specifically because we're TELLING STORIES and stories are about people, so we need to learn how to tell them truthfully, and with justice for those that we're representing. Super excited that you decided to change your major! Keeping me updated on how everything goes (-:
Hi Celeste. Well You kind of answered my question. My school offers an associates degree in film and several certificates. If you can do it without a degree at all certainly you should be able to with an associates. When I went to bls website to check for salary I only see bachelor's, and opposite of you.. I really don't want the "school experience" I hate school! Lol but I still opted to go for an associates vs certificate for the experience/training. But also I wanted to ask, if it's a versatile degree if the film thing falls through do you think it will still be easy to find employment doing something with this degree? Thanks ya!
hi! i know this is super late but this came up on my recommendations. i want to go to film school for directing and screenwriting. a lot of schools separate the two. my passion is writing films but i also want to direct them. which path is best for me?
This is great. I've struggled over the last year whether or not I should actually go to school to study film or just start making my way up. I've now decided that I do want to go, but I have a question for you: are you going to a FILM SCHOOL or are you studying film at a university? I've always wondered what the differences would be and if one was more beneficial than the other.
First of all, congrats on decided to go to film school! I think you'll enjoy your experience and grow so much as a content creator! I am studying Cinema and Media Arts (fancy term for film) at a university. So I am taking gen ed classes while taking my film courses. My cousin, went to a FILM SCHOOL, however, and had a great experience as well. she graduated earlier, and was a PA for a while. You might want to visit some schools and see what the difference are. I'd imagine that at a film school, you'd spend a lot more time doing hands-on projects and stuff. Studying film at a university, however, does give you a broader learning experience as a whole, as well as exposure to students in other majors.
I just transferred from Musical Theater and I'm really scared because I don't have experience with this kind of art. I'm usually the one on stage. Advice for amateurs?
LOL Momento has one of the best structures ever ahaha a movie like that doesn't just happen cause you're an artist. It happens because of planning and structure :)
Your funny your appealing and your video editing is all amazing your too the point blunt and factual enjoyed this and I wrote this comment less than a minute into watching this video I’m subscribing just because
So I have sum questions . I’m currently a sophomore and bc of a ton of medical reasons I haven’t been to high school for my freshman or sophomore year ( I did online ). I’m worried bc I don’t have any extracurriculars bc of that and I don’t want to look like a bad candidate for schools . I am starting a RU-vid channel so I feel like that’s a good thing . But I don’t even know where to start . Could someone please help or give me advice on what to do 💞💞
What school do you go to? I'm struggling whether I should go to college for Film/Screenwriting or should I major in something that will for sure get me a 'realistic' job. But I love to write and would love to major in Film in Television at Boston University.. but I'm worried I'll have a wasted degree and wouldn't go anywhere with it. Advice?
I've read so many things that in order to become a film maker you don't to go to college, but I know I want to go to college. I'm hoping going to college for Film and Television will help me make connections and pursue my career.
Amber Knight if you want to go to college those week be your concerns, period. you have to make sure you take advantage of internships and build connections with companies and ppl you encounter who are in the field you want to be in (and with your classmates who might put in a recommendation for you one day). I recommend you all read The Defining Decade by Meg Jay, PhD to give you some guidance and confidence and also combat some fear.
I'm also very interested in directing and making films or short films and such. I feel like it shouldn't be hard if you just network like us for example everyone that just commented on your comment are in the same position so if we all just work together, create creative good films and get it publicized out there, post on RU-vid etc sounds like a good way to get started. rather than go to film school pay all that money. when you can do what I just mentioned for free. all that would be taken from you is your time.
You realise the only reason you ‘can grade art’ is because a university (a business) has made it that way. How much are you paying for them to decide if you’re art is ‘good’? Can you not realise this is marketing? For the price you’re paying and debt you’re accruing you could literally take a unpaid internship with a media company and be 10’s of thousands of pounds better off with actual industry experience! It’s like reading a book on riding a bike and not just getting on one and learning it that way. Except film school is about 40,000 x more expensive than a book on riding bikes.
