So you wanna fly helicopters?? We talk a bit of about how Chris got OBSESSED and what his pathway to flying was. Consider this the first of a few videos we're going to do on how to get into flying. If you guys like this video we're going to do some followup videos on cost and how to afford to fly.

I fly helicopters because straight and level gets boring. I fly fixed when I want to get somewhere fast. Helicopters are always superior though.

When my hubby and I were first dating, he told me that he wanted to be a helo pilot. We're both fixed wing pilots (he actually gets paid for it...not so much for me, HA!) and FINALLY in '17 he got the company he works for to pay for him to get his rotor license. So awesome! He flies the R44, R66, and HC135. It's been an awesome experience and he's living his life long dream without having to pay for the flight time himself!

How do you record your headsets and stuff? Also when contacting the control tower do you specifically like press a button to contact them and then you change back to talk to your passengers or what?

We have an adapter cable that sends a feed to a gopro. The cable goes between the console and one of our headset's cable. There's a trigger on the cyclic that you push to transmit. Hold = broadcast, default is speaking to your passengers.

They should have a VOX Box... I know in Army Birds you have to engage a trigger switch to squelch the radio. Plus shouldn't they have a flight data recorder as well?

I see at 1.18 you have the same "characteristic" my 12 year-old R44 had - namely, ventillating doors. I purchased my R44 in 2001 for £110k. After completing around 60 hours for my PPL-H it was due for a major overhaul, so I sold it a year later for £96k. The maths did not paint a terribly sensible financial picture, particularly as in-running maintenance and associated costs were around £16k. Have rented by the hour since... I hope yours is proving less costly!

@@Justjackson7 Yes. Many (even minor conditions) even as a child will prevent you getting a 3rd class medical. Doesn't stop you flying for fun with instructor, but don't pay for a course before getting checked out.

I love you guys! can you make a short video on how to safely hang a GoPro outside the helicopter? I have the suction device but I'm afraid it won't hold on to the wind speed or temperature changes. I'm in South FL and usually fly an R22 or 44. Thank you!

just out of interest.....so Chris is a doctor? and does Becki have a „regular“ job too? Just came to the channel today because of Peter McKinnon‘s video. Your stuff is great too and one day I also want to get my pilot license. My dream always was to go for the helicopter licence, then I thought - maybe fixed wing, because helicopter is so expensive with everything and fixed wing is more widely available. but then helicopter is so much better, since you can go almost everywhere! well, I’ll see....maybe I do both ;)) looking forward for more great content from you 👍🏻

14000 hours ago on May 9, 1988 I took my first lesson at 9G0. 1000's of hours flying all around WNY. That was Holiday Valley Ski Resort and Zoar Valley you flew over

I can't believe youtube finally recommended your channel to me in 2022, immediately fell in love and binged 100+ videos of yours. I don't get it, I watch Peter McKinnon's and Matti's channels when they start and you are literally in that office but youtube never bother to recommend you guys to me until now. Great video. I fly fix wing aircraft in USA . Helicopters have always interested me. But for the money I chose fix wing vs rotary, it’s a hobby and the fuel burn rate for me is like 5 gal per hr. Or 18 liters per hr? Not sure if that converts right. But hey you can land almost anywhere with a helicopter. Fix wing not so much.

I will finish school with a minimum of 250 hours. Professional pilot program which includes ppl, ground and instrument, single and multi, plus CFI.

Hello guys. I've discovered your youtube channel just a little while ago, and have been enjoying them. I too am a helicopter private pilot. Most of my flight time is in an enstrom f28f, which I really love. Your right it really gets in your blood. I also watched where you are an intervention radiologist, which is an exciting field. My ex use to sell radiographic supplies and rooms. Me I'm own a hardware store and am learning Adobe so that hopefully can look into creating a youtube channel. Anyway it's been fun following you with so much in common. Keep up the flying and great video. Thanks for the tips as well.

You need to be smart but more than smart, a sharp mind and what I found most valuable ( as an ever groupie co-pilot constantly watching), good nerves and to be able to stay calm in a stressful scenario. It actually goes hand in hand with the same mentality ski divers approach each and every jump. You gotta be ready to release your first chute if it gets tangle and open the emergency one. ( that takes concentration and nerves of steel ). Like flying! 🙌🏻

Lastly, why is the her bird bedded down with blade socks to prevent them from spinning in the wind. I doubt an R22 has a rotor break.

My Dad is also a helicopter pilot and doc, he also is a world record holder for gyrocopter longest flight and quickest round trip across the USA. If you are ever in Missouri look up Cape Copters!

Awesome video Becki and Chris!! As someone who is seriously considering taking helicopter classes, I'm definitely interested in the cost of renting one (like flying from one city to another city), the cost of fuel, and the cost of leaving it at another airport and/or landing area while you explore said city for a few days.

Heli rentals are hard to find and often have restrictions. If city to city travel via airports is your goal, fixed wing is cheaper, faster, and way more accessible with flying clubs/rentals etc. Gonna make a video on this too!
