I like how this game had basically a development hell along with MW:O, then it had the one of the most "meh" launch both inside the fanbase and even more meh outside of it, then it BOMBED due to AI issue.... Only to rise from the ashes, become one of the most moddable and modded game on STEAM and becoming basically THE Mechwarrior experience to go, even receiving regular DLCs and expansion packs.. Great community, keep at it.
Yeah, I was really disappointed when this launched as an Epic Store exclusive and did not play it at all! In hindsight that was a good thing. By the time it made it over to Steam it was actually a fun & finished game! Good hunting...
@@ManusDextra after Supreme Commander 2, I stopped to enthusiastically await new releases, and rather wait a year to play a new game, as it was such a huge letdown and disappointment for me. So EPIC exclusivity was a good thing in the end for MEHwarriors 5. :)
"If you are getting shot in the back consistently, you are either a coward or a moron, and your death in battle is merely fate dispensing some well deserved justice." --Love it.
27:12 he then turns his back on the enemies he's not paid to kill at the end of the mission, and retreats. This is why I use a little more back armor than what he shows. He's right, though, back armor is mostly useless.
Tried this game out on a whim since it was on gamepass and it was so much fun I bought the dlcs instantly glad I found this guide I never played MWO or the Mechassault games so this was all new to me.
Welcome to the Inner Sphere my friend!! I have been playing this franchise since 1990, and played the tabletop Battletech since 1986...god I'm old...lol. If you want more content, there is the free to play Mechwarrior Online, it is a purely PVP game with 12 vs. 12 stomps and is MUCH faster paced then MW5, but it is allot of fun if you take the time to get used to the playstyle. The second one is Battletech by Paradox Interactive, it is basically playing the tabletop digitally! It has amazing depth, is VERY challenging and I have dumped WAY too many hours into it. Enjoy!
After grinding so many hours on MechWarrior 4, I finally bought the game last December. I did not regret my purchase and the mods... Oh man the mods makes the gameplay even better after playing vanilla for a time.
I tried it for 4 hours, but it didn’t pick me up. The core gameplay is fun but the progress is just way to slow for always having equal missions for over 1 hour. Also playing at a higher risk doesnt really pay off at all, it rather risks getting your buddy killed and losing progressed high tier weapons, which just will take you back 1 hour of time for a 5 min mission which is a stupid thing. Considering there is no other way than grinding for it again or repeatedly reset the black market until you got your stuff back. So failure in this game gets punished immensely, but you can load games to just repeat again, which makes the punishment pointless. So it lets me in the feeling playing is kinda pointless since where is the difficulty in it other than being a time consuming game with no good aspects.
I took your advice and got VoiceAttack. It took sometime to get the commands configured the way that works for me, but it significantly improved gameplay. Between VoiceAttack and my MMO mouse I am set.
Alright. Picked this up (with all dlc) for $36 on Steam, and checking out the game play. It *looks* like my experience with Battletech (from Harebrain) will let me hit the ground running. Just fps instead of tactical. I'll have to check out this Voice Atrack thing. (Even if it does make my wife think I'm even more of a nerd)
Tried this game at launch and wasn't impressed, but I recently got back into it and am pleasantly surprised by the changes. If anyone sees this before Feb 2, 2023, the bundle is currently 60% off on Steam, which is how I came back to it
my only issue with this game is the bad teammate ai, which can be alleviated by playing coop and play with other peoples. but that have the negative side with that they join your story... and your mechs.. which may be fine for some. but i dont find it fun to join a game and play with someone elses mechs, and not my own.. and then get no return for it.. atleast give me a salary to bring back to my own progression... but ideally, i would like to pick mechs out of my own garage. or have the option to do it. and not forced to use hosts mechs.
I run dual joysticks and pedals for star citizen (also started using in Elite dangerous) I feel like having the two twist axis (right stick for legs, left stick for upper body or whatever) would be pretty cool - HOWEVER I don't know if i have the patience to try and set that up in this game lol. Why they make it so difficult :P
I just downloaded the game and I'm playing through my first few missions. I have been lamenting the absence of MW games for a while, turns out that I was just sleeping on them! Good to see a Mech Warrior community! I'm looking forward to a game that Michael Bay wishes that he could have been in charge of
Nicely done. One thing I want to add for new mechwarriors is details on the weapons type and function. In general, all weapons do either splash (damages more than one component) or pinpoint (all damage to one component). It is best to pair pinpoint and splash damage on your mechs, so that you can soften enemies and strip armor before actually destroying them. Some good pairings are, medium lasers with non-artemis non-stream lrms, medium lasers with LBX (not slug) and srms with machine guns or flamers. Lastly, don't be afraid to experiment and have fun. As your dlc, salvage, and funding increases, you'll have more ways to optimize your mechs, like an axeman (melee mech) that trades its stock medium lasers for flamers and mounts an lbx in the torso. This mech has two splash weapons (axe and lbx), and the flamers for up close executions. It can hit air and ground targets, mechs and vehicles. Like i said, don't be afraid to experiment. Good luck out there mechwarriors
Really like using the joystick in this game. Just didn't like what axis the leg rot' was on vs. the torso rot', so I changed that. Used to play MW4 a ton when I was a kid. Bought this game yesterday and love it, lots of fun to play with friends on coop. Edit: Only issue I have on the joystick is the deadzone is not sensitive enough, but I can just change that in the software for the joystick itself. Shouldn't be an issue.
Wait? Blackjack is good in this game? After playing both tabletop and battletech pc I always considered it to be joke mech and sort of instruction how to waste tonnage with useless weapons like ac2.
Stock blackjack BJ-1 sports two ac2's and four medium lasers... In Battletech PC, that's like a 150pt alpha strike. In my experience Blackjacks make great medium fire-support mechs if you understand how to use them. Whatever you do, DON'T buy the hero Blackjack in MW5! If you don't like the BJ-1, you'll ABSOLUTELY HATE that one... ; ) Good hunting!
I remember when my friends older brother was playing this on the board with paper and figurines. Nice to see how long this has really come. Recently got this game in a sale, the drop ship edition was on discount. Haven't played mechwarrior or battle tech since since the late 90s. I loved getting back into it with this.
@22:00 yeah the tanks and choppers can mount the same weapons as mech med las ac/5 and smaller so they can and will hurt you this isnt like old armored core where only mechs and mounted emplacements are dangerous these people have been fighting in and against mechs for 400 yrs even the little stuff is dangerous even if it can just be popped like a balloon
got the ps5 version and its harder than the ps4 version. ive never been destroyed so fast in a lance. two minutes it took them. the first major fight you have to kill there leader hes in a victor. hard as balls. you need a medium mech or an aassult trust me.i used an archer last time but you only have 66 days to get one.
Never put heat sinks anywhere else until the engine heat sink slots are full. CT or head are the last to die and double heatsinks only take a single slot. Also, pretty much never slow down or stand still.
I usually never go for full leg armor on any mech. You could shave off 10 points each easily. Then I wouldn't go for full head armor in this tonnage. Usually only start maxing it out above 75 tons. But even then I play around with it to maybe get 3,87 free tons up to 4 tons flat. Same goes for legs of course.
My drop partner and I have settled for stripping the mech, maxing armor, then shaving the head to 20 and legs as needed. If it's still too heavy, we then reduce the weapons to their next lowest class eg large pulse laser to large short burst laser. Between having a reasonable trigger finger and smart weapon groupings, it usually gets the job done
I know the video is months old at this point but I have to ask - did you know that when you shoot a dead leg that the damage is transferred to the corresponding side torso rather than the other leg? And then if that side torso is gone the CT? I see you try to leg a mech twice in this video where you get a CT kill rather than a leg kill because of it. I'm not sure if you didn't know that or if you're just accidentally hitting the wrong leg, which is an easy enough mistake to make in a battle. You can even see how that progression works when you leg the Blackjack - the leg goes and the remaining damage moves up to the side torso - it's real easy to miss since your lancemate gets the other leg pretty quickly after.
Using a joystick to play is far from ideal, but it is incredibly fun as long as you aren't using the stick twist for leg movement. Also the sensitivity of the stick needs to be cranked up way above the default setting.
What works best with the stick is to use a separate stick and throttle, and then use the rudder pedal on the throttle for leg twist. That way your left hand is the bottom half of the mech and your right hand is is the top half of the mech, more intuitive that way.
@@heirofaniu Nothing super fancy. I got the Thrustmaster t16000 set which may be overpriced for quality, but was a good way for me to have a casual flight sim setup.
The thing that confused me coming to this gane from Battletech and MWO was how restrictive mech customisation was. E.g in the battletech video game a mech that has Energy weapon hardpoints was able to equip any size energy weapon so long as it fit within the critical slots. I find that much of the critical slots are wasted without this option.
Actually, I see it as a challenge... Also, it gives each mech chassis a bit more personality. But yes, it can also be frustrating, if that's not your taste. There are mods to help open-up mech customization! Good hunting!
Very late to this party :D I started playing table-top BattleTech when it was released in the 80's and altho' I played many of the software offerings (up to MW 4 Vengeance) it feels like a VERY long time since I last played one of these. Bought MW5 and all the DLC's, so I am ready to go and this video seems like an ideal tuition tool to boot me up! :)
the game is pretty good but the dificulty spikes are damn stupid. The dificulty level rarely matches the reality gameplay wise, there are some high level missions that are easy as hell and some low level missions that are just pure bullshit. This happens because the mission design is auto generated, not manualy design. for example i got a warzone mission with a 57 dificulty againts medium and heavy mechs but then i also got another warzone mission with a 52 dificulty againts 2 and a half lances of heavy and assault mechs, like how in the living hell is that less dificult?
I've probably put like 200hrs into this game since I got it a few years back. It is a great game, wish they put the clans in via DLC. Great video and persona for a Mechwarrior video, keep it up !
The dlc they provided so far are so minor and insignificant that in comparison clans would have to be a new game. There will probably be mods for that soon tho, at least clan mods were made for HBS Battletech, so I assume there is a similar market for clans here since the player base is basically the same.
Just picked this game on sale and can't wait to play. Glad to see that this game share much with battletech turn based tactics game except for the combat.
Hey does anyone import their career data to get multiple of the same hero mechs? I managed to get 4 Rifleman DNAs. There's just something about having a lance of dual T5 guass Riflemans. I could imagine the fear the enemy feels, " uuh hey boss we got a lance of Riflemans coming towards the base." , "copy Lt. Munn, can you get a read on their armaments?", "sir they are all armed with 2 guass rifles." , "dear god, RUN LT. RUUN"
How can I do a custom paint job for my mechs? I want to try and replicate my custom S.W.A.T force onto the game. Basically My Force is like Police Force of the Whole League .Kinda like how US is the police force of the world. ^^ On tabletop. LOL I'm not liked cause of how fierce I am and I'm like the Introduction commander. I don't underestimate my opponents and treat them as if they can kill me. I'm one who does not kiss up to those higher push heads. I have both Vtol's and Tanks along with my mechs. ^^
I use a Saitek x52 joystick in right hand for mech legs, trackball in left for torso. 3 button foot pedal for mech throttling. The Saitek throttle function I don't use in MW
I spent the lst 15 years PINING for a new MW: Mercs game and I was not disappointed. It's a really simple formula and I can't fathom why it's taken so long but damn is it good to be back....
Yeah I missed Mechwarrior badly. Easily my favorite part of the golden age of PC gaming. The reason I bought a gaming mouse and keyboard. The reason I bought a flight stick. The reason I bought a headset with voice command. Mechwarrior became a hobby not just another game. Finally bought a new gaming rig so I can play it finally!
@@AngryCalvin For those of us that played the original, this is the closest thing to it. The storyline is so similar too. All the other games were very linear and I disliked that, I wanted autonomy - now I have it.
A really well put together information video, thank you! Subscribed just in case I'll like the actual experience of playing. I'm also curious if you've made a modlist which changes interfaces and such to better.
Personally, I think it adds a bit of challenge & gives each chassis personality. But I get what you mean. There are mods to open up loadouts! Good hunting!
mouse (4000DPI)/keyboard.. no aim assist.. /flex.. as our host has shown.. leg shots take mechs out quickly.. and saves the top half for salvage.. legs are easier to repair/replace.. i almost forgot! Lancemates follow the weapon group order.. IE: PPC (1), LRM5 (2), M Laser x2 (3).. the AI will use the numerical order when shooting at enemies (PPC and LRM, then they move in for M Lasers or move back for more long ranged combat).. so i tend to put all my long ranged weapons on/in the first 2-3 groups (1-3)..
man I cant believe I was sleeping on this game. Especially having a joystick. What a blast im having!! Perfect to fill the void while I wait for armored core
I was about to start Career mode and stumbled upon your video. I love your opening presentation and some quotes from Full Metal Jacket as portrayed by the former Marine and actor Gunny Sgt. Lee Ermey (passed away on April 15, 2018). Loved your short, concise and straight to the point tutorial. Thank you.
So, for the torso/legs issue--there are two controls you can try. One will center the torso over the legs and the other will center the legs under the torso. Center legs under torso works great for me. If you use that, you should always start traveling in the direction your guns are pointed in.
Tis a good guide I have three recommended mods that are a must once you have gotten used to this game they are merctech, piratetech, and pilot overhaul Then two mods that I suggest checking out is coyotes mission pack and vonbiomes If you pair coyotes missions with merctech you’ll need a mod manager to make sure it is overriding merctech otherwise it will crash your game
Yeah, mechs are divided into 8 parts: 4XArms & Legs, 3XTorso, & 1XHead. Early on, it's easier to disable a mech by "legging" it. That is, destroying both legs. Later, head shots are more effective IF you have the right weapons & good aim!
I love that the talking head in the bottom right has eyebrows made of then helmet he wears. When he is grumpy, the helmet changes shape to make his eyebrows angry :)
tried this game out about a year ago, but it kept on freezing on my computer. Even started the game over and it froze in the same place a couple of missions in. Still wanna try it on game pass I suppose but PC is a no go for me unfortunately.
I don’t usually like comment and subscribe, but I guess you talked to me into it. I’m already playing the campaign and very much enjoying the game so you actually are giving me exactly what I want as far as information to start a new career
I have a question for some reason every time I play my game regardless of what level climbing 1 to 2 or 3 to 4 there's always an urban Mech with an AC/10 what do I do?
@@ManusDextra haha, no, i aint got money nor time to track one down. I was gonna ask if you had ideas to make the Blood Asp from that game, but i found out how (King Crab with Arm mounted Gauss, and L/R torso PPCs alongside Full Armor with 1.5 Gauss Ammo and the rest of the extra tonnage filled with Heat Sinks (Preferably Double)
AFAIK any physical contact results in a bit of armor loss. So, stomping on tanks or walking through buildings will damage your mech a bit. The best thing for taking out buildings is flamers & machine guns! Try the hero Firestarter or Blackjack... Good hunting!
I've been stuck with an old 2013 Lenovo Thinkpad for over a year now so been fairly limited on games I can play, largely 'retro' titles. I recently started playing through all the Mechwarrior games after I discovered that all of them, their DLC's and even the Mechcommander games are free to download abandonware. I've become somewhat addicted if I'm honest. I've spent the last month playing and replaying MW4 Mercenaries, the whole having your own Mercenary outfit to roam the galaxy thing... I just love it. Anyway thanks alot for the MW5 beginner overview, it's more or less cemented my decision to get the game or should I say cemented my decision of saving for a new laptop or computer that actually has the ability to play it. You've gained a sub.
Yeah, I was really happy to hear about that! I'm a little jammed-up right now, but I do plan to continue covering the game. And, I'll definitely be reviewing the DLC when it drops.
