I flipped my first C5 into a ditch when I was 25. Low-speed crash luckily. No defense here, I was going through a divorce, and was vert volatile at the time. I don't even remember what had me going, but I was driving like a pissed off teenager. It went sideways during a burnout and straight into a deep ditch. I walked away with a scratch on my foot, and DEEPLY hurt pride. I walked away from the performance car world for 3 or 4 years after that, but it eventually pulled me back in. I made sure to get VERY good tires this time, and thoroughly check my surroundings before I do any hooning now. haha

29 year old here. I was one of the first "younger" people to realize the potential of C5 Corvettes while everyone else my age just thought of them as "dad's car". I bought my first one, a 2002 6 speed coupe at age 20. My world was forever changed. It's hard to imagine having more fun in a car to be honest. The driving characteristics of the C5 are amazing, the handling, acceleration, everything. The potential for modifications is as large as your imagination, and the monstrous bellow of the LS engine will put a big smile on your face every time you drive it. I cannot recommend these cars enough. The interior isn't bad to live with whatsoever contrary to most of the comments you will hear. It's no Mercedes, but it's very comfortable and spacious. The cup holder is basically useless, but oh well. 😁 If you're thinking about getting one of these cars, just go drive one and your mind will make itself up.

8:15 insurance on C5/C6 is shockingly CHEAP! Insurance prices are based on the number of claims drivers make and costs to repair, among other things. Vettes are generally cars owned by older men living in safe neighborhoods and pretty commonly only used as weekend cars; this means there are very few claims made which keeps insurance down for everyone that owns one.

C6 Z06 owner, one of the coolest and underrated cars I own. I’m a huge JDM guy but this thing is so cool. If you can get the C6 get into a Grand Sport or Z06, unless you got money money then get into the ZR1.

I had a C6Z06 for three years, what a machine that car was. Best sport car I've ever driven. They went up in value so I sold it and got into a C5 corvette recently. Some call it a downgrade... I call it now I have left over money to buy a boat lol

It's basically the same as the Camaro each year. That being, you got more HP per dollar spent than any other car out there lol Reliability is hit and miss. Some were bulletproof and others broke down, especially the automatic transmissions. So get a manual and smoke ricers 💁🏻‍♂️

@@dallas4112Paddles won't make the 4L65 or the 6L80 any better. They're still conventional torque-converter units and want to operate their own way. If you've aver tried to manually shift one, there is a noticeable delay between tapping the paddle and actually shifting, despite GM's claims that they shift really fast.

Love my C5. They've got a lot of little things that commonly go wrong with them, but they're generally cheap and easy to fix. Interior is garbage, but hard to beat the performance for the price. Got mine for $13k, already tastefully modified to 460whp. I've basically just been fixing up the interior and throwing suspension stuff at it. I don't really drink beer. Do I still have to drink Busch Light?

Yes! Thank you FI! You guys are awesome! The C5/C6 is an amazing platform that deserves credit. I owned both a C5 and C6 as daily drivers. The C5 feels a lot more raw and the overall "feel" of the car on the road I believe is superior. But, the C6 is a lot more refined for a daily driver experience. If you can get a C6 go for the LS3. The C5 and C6 were both dead reliable in my experience, with minor common issues.

I agree with you that people buying these who never owned a car over 400 hp need to be careful and learn how to handle them. I sold a modified 1996 Camaro SS that had around 400hp to a 16yr old and it was totalled with in a week. I saved up and bought it when I was 17 and over the 10 years I owned it added, cold air intake, larger throttle body, MSD ignition, long tube headers, full exhaust, bigger fuel pump, injectors, fuel regulator, LT4 intake manifold, LT4 heads, mild cam, dyno tune, strut tower brace, lowering springs, monotube shocks, upper & lower control arms, upper & lower trailing arms, panhard bar, torque arm, stiffer anti roll bars, clutch, shorter throw shifter, enkei 5 spoke 18" wheels and 255/45R18 tires. It had 82K on it when I sold it, it was fun car.

Great video! Worth noting that tons of parts are interchangeable between the C5 and C6 platform, ie sway bars, shocks, brakes, and the gear shift. If you're going with bigger wheels on a C5, can get C6Z or GS brakes and it's a direct swap for a budget BBK.

Amazing out of the box review! I bought a Black on Black 2009 C6 Z51 with the 436 hp LS3 auto with paddle shift. It is as fast as lightning, takes the turns as if on rails and stops on a dime. I will never sell it or my black supercharged and injected 57 Chevy.

You can get a well kept base model for around 20k if not less. Imo if you can afford, try to get one with the z51 package (05-09) or a grandsport (10-13) will give more confidence when going fast that you'll be able to comfortably slow down and handle corners at highway speeds. These cars are getting extremely affordable right now so maybe you'll be in one sooner than u think :)

Day 1 of requesting: so you want Renault Alpine. Who is with me? I drove an a110 in dirt rally and instantly loved it, it also had the automatic transmission which was hilarious because you have to rev it above redline to like 8000 rpm for it to even think about going into the next gear so trying to get to the 4th/5th gear is a fun challenge imo. I looked at some of the renault alpines in my local market and I found that the 1980's renault alpines have gotten under 20k euros, which seems like a pretty decent price for such a fun car. Sorry for the essay, just a car that doesn't get enough love imo for what it is.

If you are a BMW tech, there is probably no better car out there.... They make so much power and do it reliably (in terms of mechanical failure). But jesus christ they are such a PITA to work on... Even just putting a new battery is a fucking mission.

Thanks so much! Been saving for a nice 20-25k c5/c6 for 5 years little by little while paying off student debts and day to day life/home expenses. I’ve finally got the go head from my wife to get myself a second fun car and figured with the c8 coming out there should be some good deals on earlier models. Just waiting until the pandemic is done before buying and you guys go and drop this tasty treat of an episode. So should I be expecting prices to not drop, or worse, inflate since everyone will now be looking? Love the content, keep putting more out on other stuff so I can still find a clean vette before they all become drift missiles.

Had a 01' C5 6speed manual. It was fun, only issues I came across was BCM issues, horrendous interior sqeaks, and the wheel hop... Pulled like a mother though! I had borla catback straight pipes, hooker long tube headers, and a 92mm lsx throttle body with the 92mm manifold to match. And now I drive a Corolla Hatch 🤷😂

Great video. Full of helpful info for potential buyers. You nailed it all except the bit about the construction of the C5 being different from a C6. Both have the rear tubs, front inner fender liner and rockers bonded to the chassis with panel adhesive. They truly are brothers sharing same driveline design, in fact you can install a C6 trans and diff into a C5. We repaired a wrecked 2013 with a front frame section from a 1997. The only issue was the hood hinge locations.

98 hatch, room for groceries, fantastic highway mileage, goes fast when needed, only two seats keep the number of passengers to a nice low, makes you smile when you see it's silhouette in the night in your driveway, also Mines black, so it kinda makes me feel like Batman.......

I own a C6, the rare 427, and that ls7 is no joke. I don't know why poeple feel the need to put cams and stuff in it to make it faster, it can barely hold the ground now with how much power it has. I topped it 170mph once and really did not take long at all to get there. It has a very advance traction that has kicked in on occasion and saved me. I don't know how it does it but when the car starts to spin out sideways it corrects it.

The C6 is essentially a “C5.5” - throw em up on a lift & walk underneath, almost all the suspension bits are interchangeable. The interior is not really any better or worse in either gen, the headlights can look ugly depending on the background color, I enjoy the notchback styling of the C5 Z06 over all modern vettes (C4-C8) it’s the most muscle car/hot rod looking of all…it’s also the lightest modern vette ever made as well - 3180 lbs. even the C7 isn’t THAT much of a revelation, interior/exterior design aside. The big upgrades are direct injection, the extra gears in the automatic & 1 extra gear in manual, & the performance data recorder….otherwise, again, put it up on a lift & underneath it’s the same double wishbone aluminum A-arms/spindles & transverse leaf springs, rear mounted transaxle etc - it’s the same damn formula. The C8 is really a game changer….& not really a “vette” in the traditional sense.

C8 Corvette now the world beating sportscar. Plans for a Zora edition 1000 HP AWD hybrid will smoke anything else for the money. Nothing else will come close for the money, balancing reliability, performance and value.
