Somebody is selling a 2019 WR250R in my area. It has 300 miles on it and is factory fresh. They are asking MORE than MSRP was in 2019. It's more or less stupid/impossible to buy the WR anymore. Anyone who has a used one thinks they own something incredible and special when in reality the new KLX300S/R cost much less brand new and is a BETTER bike. It has more power, newer features, fully adjustable suspension, weighs about the same, and has the added benefit of being 2" lower in seat height while keeping the same clearance. Specially for those of us who SUMO the bikes anyway. The KLX300SM is a hell of a bike for 600$ less MSRP. My KLX300SM (with mods) tops out at 100mph and has plenty of passing power even at 70mph.

@@tieoneon1614 Maybe I'm responding too late for you, but other potential buyers might benefit. There are computer/throttle issues with the 450L. Owners are reporting a lot of low speed stalling. Installing an aftermarket computer to better tune the throttle response/stalling issue helps, but those mods are currently quite pricey, and since the 450L is already so expensive it really makes going with some kind of KTM just make more sense. I wanted to like the 450L, and was willing to deal with the short maintenance intervals, but I ended up going with the WR250R. I am an older guy, and I didn't want to be dealing with KLR or BMW hog weights, and KTMs are very pricey for how much I ride. A lightly used WR250R, with all the standard modifications already done just made the most sense for me. I LOVE my WR250R.

@OneinTheChamber06 between the two, the 250r is better. Less vibration, longer service intervals. The 450 may have more power, but short service intervals will creep up fast if you're using it on the highway. I wouldn't recommend either if you had to do a bunch of highway traveling. They're just the wrong bikes for that duty.

A couple things missed in the comparison to DRZ 400 - the DRZ has more low end torque which can make it easier to ride off road in some situations. And one thing counting against the DRZ is that it has a much higher center of gravity than the WRR (engine sits higher), so that extra weight feels more drastic at very slow walking speeds and in loose sand.

The XT225/250 is a little less aggressive, but it will serve you well forever. They are hardly ever for sale used. I tried to get one for my dad, but ended up buying an already properly lowered WR250R for him. If you ever want to sell it, you won't have much competition. I bought my WR250R brand new back in 2008. Back then, absolutely nothing had been done in the way of modifications to them. I swapped out the stock, rubber dampened rear sprocket for a WR250 Renthal sprocket, new DID X Ring chain. Swapped the stock Death Wings for Dunlop 606's. Got rid of the CA exhaust system, saved it, put it in a nice box. Replaced it with an FMF Header and silencer.. Swapped out the stock handlebars for a set of Pro Taper bars. Doug Henry bend. New grips and levers. I did it all on my own... There were no RU-vid videos. I still have the bike. 28,000 miles on it now. No valve adjustments necessary. I started off making it a street legal dirt bike. Raced a couple of Hare Scrambles with it. Did not finish last.. Then went more ADV. As it sits, it has a 3.5 gal Safari tank on it. Rack on the rear fender, side racks for Panniers. A tool bag on the front number plate. To and from California to Colorado and back to California.

So the drz400s makes 40 horsepower and the KTM 350excf makes 35? Wrong answer! The drz400s makes 39 brake horsepower. That's at the crank quoted by Suzuki for those who care. The drz400s makes about 32 at the rear wheel stock. The KTM 350excf makes well over 40 brake horsepower and close to 35 at the rear wheel. There's no contest. I have the X and yeah, it's super tall. I'm 5' 8" with kinda short legs and I have to tip-toe one side or the other. The bonus is, if you commute on it like I do (or did, 60 miles round trip), you sit so high up that you can see through traffic so much better. 70-75mph, 60 miles round trip, no issues whatsoever. Unlesssss, there was a strong head wind. It will still cruise at that speed, just don't expect to pull out and overtake a car. lol I never noticed any vibration at highway speeds. Maybe I was just having too much fun to notice. Edit: There's a good chance the vibration mentioned in the video comes from the knobbies and not the engine.

It’s fairly straightforward. The WRR is a much lighter bike with more modern tech but its lower end torque seriously sucks. You can gear it down to make it better, but it’s still not great. If you want a tank of a bike that plows through everything, the DRZ400 is the way to go. If you want something that feels lighter underfoot and more like a dirtbike, the WRR is the way to go. I love my WRR but it probably wouldn’t be as enjoyable if I didn’t have previous experience dirtbiking and mountain biking. You really have to punch it over rougher terrain and go faster than most beginners would probably be comfortable with to get the power out of it since it’s all up top.

@@garyhalliday2140 Hi Gary, 72 now and still enjoying (fair weather) biking. I now have a Fantic Caballero 500. It makes about 40 hp and only weighs 330 lbs. Terrific little bike! I love it, but it may not be available in your part of the world.

Your specs are way off. Its 25 hp and 305 pounds com on man... I had one for 5 years, toughest bike I ever owned, it never broke and I raced scrambles with it as well as commuted to work. It's biggest issue is the shock, it needs 50-60% more rebound, stock it will try to launch you over the bars all the time if you take it off road. The suspension kinda looks like the stuff on the yz buts cheap crappy suspension, only noobs think its good.

I have a 2017 wr250r with a power commander and fmf exhaust she tops out at 91mph on the iphone satellite speedometer app. Of course the speedo says 123 but it’s at least 10 mph off at anything over 25mph also on 17in sumo wheels so what do you expect😂

The intake valve stems on the 5 valve yz250f are 3.98mm, on the 4 valve they are 4.47mm... that 0.49mm adds the valve service life from 4'500 miles "5 valve" to the 20'000 on the 4 valve unit. why didn't they just make the intake valve stems 4.47mm on the 5 valve, hardly adds 3 grams of titanium. 3 grams times "no we want all the titanium for jet engines". can throw them in the middle of the lake, down they go... not getting a core return on them anyways.

Lol! Don’t get me wrong! I love my 2014 ADV specked out WRR, but you conveniently left out the price for a new WRR.. What was $7600 OTD? I agree the CRF-L is just blah, but the KLX 300 is a decent replacement for the WRR.

Bought my 2019 brand new last spring. I love it every much as I do my FZ10. Only thing I wish it had was a fuel guage. I'm always a little nervous when the low fuel light comes on on the trails, even with the extra gallon tank on the back.
@menopillion9853

Yeah, a fuel gauge and a gear indicator would be nice. If they ever release a WR300/WR350 then we can have those things. For now, I use the visual indicator, or slosh test.

Just bought a low mile 2020 WR. Had an 08 WR for 8 years so it's good comin back. Some of your HP and torque number are totally off. The KLX only has 23 hp, not 33. The CRF has 27 hp and 19 ft lbs. The WR has 29 hp and 17 ft lbs. The WR weighs 295# wet. but anyway, the WR is the best for experienced riders... I hope they come out with a 300 or 350 .... well heck, just bolt a RZ350 engine in the WR frame for the next version.

Where I live we call them Enduro bikes and they are road legal. I have had a few and the Honda XR's are the bomb, especially the old XR 500's. Amazing on a beach, big drifts, wheelies for miles, literally, and can do just over 100 mph on the road, not bad on a trail as well. I had a lot of fun with an old Yamaha YZ 490 as well, big 490cc two stroke, hard to beat in a straight line and very light, a lot of people put road tyres on them and road raced them with quite a lot of success on bumpy, tight street circuits (check out the Cemetery Circuit NZ vids), sounds great as well.

Mine has 25k miles. Still runs better than the day I got it off the showroom floor. Best less-obvious mods are a rear lowering link and proper rear spring rate. Mine has race-tech suspension with gold valves. Rides like a race bike. 450s have a hard time getting away from me until 70 mph.

My only qualm about fuel injection is the fact that if it does happen to fry-you're screwed until you can get another unit whereas with an old carb you can improvise with duct tape/wire tomfoolery.

I picked up that KTM 350 EXC-F last year and I can confirm, that thing is basically apex predator. Also I was super curious about its weight so I picked up a shipping scale and weighed it full of gas oil and coolant. Total weight ready to ride is 260.85lbs. This also includes the weight of an Acerbis skid plate so likely without it you would see something like 258lbs. But in my case a skid plate is 100% necessary. I have already gouged the shit out of it crossing downed trees out on the trails. My brother has a wr250 and I trade rides with him quite a bit, the WR is still super fun. I highly recommend either bike for either hard trail riding or dual sporting. Both are exceptionally capable.

I have an 09 WR250X. I was able to get the height down to 33 inches with a combination of a Yamalink lowering link, Seat Concepts aftermarket low rise seat, and by virtue of the fact that the supermoto wheels are smaller, lowering the overall height as well. The thing is so damn nimble and feels light as a feather with the lowered center of gravity and the other mods I've done to decrease the weight and increase the performance. While already a great bike in stock form, the fun factor is off the charts when fully modded out.
