ID doctors are very underappreciated, I remember almost losing my father to bacterial meningitis when I was 7 and the ID doctors were integral in his recovery.
My sister almost died from lemierres syndrome and an ID specialist saved her life. It's very rare, so I'm very grateful for his knowledge. He had only see it twice before.
I recently just changed my entire plan of being a plastic surgeon to ID specialist. And this really helped me shape what I wanted for my career. I’m a freshman in college and I’m so excited to take microbiology, epidemiology, parasitology, etc. It took me long enough to see what I am really interested in
This is all fine and dandy, and it’s good to have a plan and inspiration, but I think it’s best if you wait until getting into medical school before deciding what specialty to commit to. You’ll get plenty of clinical hours and exposure with the different specialties and it’ll give you a much better idea of what you want to do when you see the ins and outs of everything.

This is definitely the kind of doctor I want specialize as. The weirder requires more thinking and a lot of puzzles that requires some testing to narrow down which parasite afflicts patients
Could you please talk about interventional neurology ( or interventional neuroreadiology), pretty niche, but i think it is a growing field that deserve some exposure

I've been fascinated in medical things for decades and have had a few health care related jobs (mostly menial jobs), yet I literally didn't know this area/speciality existed until CV19.
Yes the scope of ID is interesting, but remember ID specialists have lower pay, high consult volume, and unfavorable work hours and call / weekend schedules. It is an extremely broad field making it difficult to master.
This is a long shot, but would it be possible to cover various PA specialties as a subsection of “So you want to be”? I’m seriously considering becoming an infertility PA, but I don’t know the pay range, specialization requirements, etc. I love your videos and would love to see this as an added series! 😊
