Varanasi, the spiritual capital of India!
what a place! the riverbanks are full of people selling street food, building boats, performing rituals, doing cremation ceremonies and of course there’s people bathing in the river Ganga.
such a holy place with an intense atmosphere. every evening at sunset there is a Ganga Aarti ceremony. it’s free so you don’t need a ticket, just make sure to show up on time to grab a seat with a good view!
The Ganga Aarti is carried out at the Dashashwamedh Ghat and attracts up to 50.000 people every night!
it’s definitely something that needs to be experienced in real life, i could never capture all of its beauty and devotion.
very happy I visited Varanasi 🤍

Also, for us Hindus, its not just river Ganga...we revere the Ganga as our mother, the one who nourishes this land. Jai Maa Ganga

Pancha Bhuta Sthalam (5 elemental Temple) is one of the most spiritual places of India it refers to five temples dedicated to Shiva, each representing a manifestation of the five prime elements of nature: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. Pancha indicates "five," Bhuta means "elements," and Sthala means "place." The temples are located in South India, four in Tamil Nadu and one in Andhra Pradesh. The five elements are believed to be enshrined in the five lingams of the temples, with each lingam named on the element represented. All five temples are located around the 78°E and 79°E longitudes and between 10°N and 14°N latitudes. According to the Vedas, the material world is a combination of the five fundamental elements of nature namely earth, water, fire, air, and ether. Bhuta in Sanskrit means element and maha bhoota indicates a fundamental element. According to Ayurveda, an ancient Indian medical system, the equilibrium of the body with the pancha bhuta is governed by the principles of tridoshas - kaph (phlegm), pitta (bile), vayu (gas), dhātu and malas (waste products).

You should visit south Indian temples. Also Kerala temples are very beautiful and immersed in spirituality (mostly tantric form of Hinduism), but the problem is some Kerala temples restrict foreigners, its a strict code they follow from ancient times. Adi Shankara the one who propelled the Advaita vedanta is from Kerala, he emphasized the Big Chardham Yatra (4 pilgrimages) of Hinduism (there is a small chardham yatra in the state of Uttarakhand), the most holy pilgrimage for Hindus and is located in the 4 opposite borders of India, they are * Badrinath (State : Uttarakhand) * Dwaraka (state : Gujarat, where the Avatar Sri Krishna ruled as an Emperor) *Jagannath Puri (state: Odisha) * Rameswaram (State : Tamil Nadu, where Avatar Rama build Shiva lingam) Also Tamil Nadu and Karnataka temples are highly spritual, like * Mookambika Temple in Karnataka, * Arunachala Shiva temple In Tamil Nadu, * Yadadrigutta temple in Telengana. Almost all Southern temples are untouched by invaders in the past so these states have higher concentration of Temples.

There is a lot of negative rhetoric about Varanasi in the minds of Western people due to negative media, mixed in with almost always misinfirmation. As a traveller, what did you think about the city? The river and the overall experience?

i was warned by a couple of people too! but with an open mind it’s an amazing place to discover in my opinion. i’m a big fan of all the rituals and traditions, so it was really wonderful for me to witness :)

As an Indian, I think it embodies the worst aspects of Hinduism and of this country.
