I rented this in the good ol' days of VHS tapes and took it over to my "Old Man" to watch it as he grew up at the same time as Ralphie. Daddy loved it and laughed through the entire movie. Even his father had a 1936 Oldsmobile just like Ralphie's pop. But when it came time for Ralphie to get "Soap Poisoning", as soon as Daddy saw that red bar of soap he screamed, "LIFE BUOY!" and started laughing so hard he couldn't breathe and the Retina in his left eye detached! Sadly, even after three surgeries, Daddy wasn't ever able to see anything well out of, as he called it, the "Soap Eye." Obviously, he had suffered the "Life Buoy Soap Poisoning" syndrome several times as well!

I felt bad for poor Schwartz in this scene--his mother spanks him relentlessly for something he didn't do. If you listen closely to the conversation, she thinks at first that Ralphie had probably heard that word from his father, and she was right then. So not only did Ralphie swear, but he lied about it too.
