These tips are what I have found on MY journey, other soapers may have found different things in their journey and thats OK too. But I am sharing what I ahve found tow ork for me and hope it iwll work for you too. In the past I have had the fracturing in my soaps, once I worked this out, I never had it again. I have never used glycerine or oil in my TD, only water - Special requested video.

Thanks for the tips, Karen. The top about the warm water is really important, because I always think that if you're going to add a cold water mix to your batter that is heating up with the lye etc that you are not going to get it to mix properly unless you do a lot of stirring and sometimes that's not possible when your batter is setting up fast. This is why we need you, Karen, you have such a wealth of knowledge and experience xx Linda

We had a conversation about using tap water in one of the FB soaping groups I'm on. I was amazed that over half the people who commented use tap water. I've always used distilled.

Thanks for the tip Karen. I've suffered the crackle effect, and whilst not always unattractive, I do want the option to control how the soap will look. I'll definitely be focusing on the mixing next time I use it.

I’ll try the hot/warm water mixture. What I have found is if you don’t use enough TD that this also causes they “streaky” appearance. I also believe that is has to do with some fragrances. Mind you it does give and “olde world” crackle to soaps. Especially one I make. (Wish I knew how I did it to make sure I do it always for this soap. Lol)

Yippee!!! Another Eden's Secret video!!! Thank you so much for this tip Karen. I used quite a bit more td than I normally use in the soap I made yesterday, and there is the crackling, or crazing, or whatever they call it. I will try your tip next time.

the tap water could be messing up all your soaps... should only use distilled... and its better to dump the oxides in a light oil..not tap water

How much water to the TD and does that mess up the soap mix adding water. really need to know
@StaceyWilsonRE
@StaceyWilsonRE 5 лет назад
Florence Parker double the water to TD. Example, 2 tsp TD is 4 tsp water. I actually add my TD to the lye water. It's very hot and will mix well, but your whole batch will be lightened so you may have to add extra color/mica to the non white parts. You could also microwave or boil the water and mix the TD separately in a container if you don't want the whole batch whitened. Just make sure it's really hot.

***** Titatium Dioxide has shown links to Chroma, IBS and Respitory Lung Disease to name a few. Don't forget our skin is our largest organ in our bodies. And it's the bodies 1st line of defense. Titanium Dioxide if in soap will be easily absorbed into the body through the skin and it's made easier from our pours opening from washing w/ hot water. I would think if your making the effort to make your own soap you probably care about your body more than the average person. Point a little sparkle isn't worth the added strain put on your bodies immune system.
@melissabush7317
@melissabush7317 9 лет назад
Justin Soga That's the truth. Pretty much everyone I've met knows this now. Sadly, most don't care & just like the look of it. I stopped using it all together. I use to be a makeup artists, so I really did a life purge. I hope more people stop using it but most won't.

I'm not familiar with the oil based TD, but my guess would be 2 oil to 1 TD, so yes, that would be 1 cup oil to half cup TD. But better you check with someone who does the oil version. Does Soap Queen TV do this anybody?

Tap water has trace minerals in it which can inhibit lather in a finished soap. I always use filtered water for my main batch, but often use tap water to mix my oxides. This is just because it's less fuss, and I believe that small amount of tap water won't make a difference in a 2lb batch.
