Ok I know that this is an old video but those who complain about the kids should go watch something else. The kids are great and i remember thinking the were a bit of an distraction but not anymore and hearing them grow up over the years have been an absolute delight. They are always respectful and do whatever they are asked and are eager to please and help. You have done an awesome job.

You could also spritz tops with alcohol to help new soap adhere. I hope it works well. It certainly looks pretty.

I am SO excited!! It never crossed my mind to pipe the soap AFTER cutting. I have a multi-bar cutter, and it is such a struggle to get piping and embeds lined up correctly that I don't do it as often as I would like. Thank you for sharing!

I enjoyed this video. I piped my valentines day soap too high and it barely fit in my cutter. This is another technique that I can use and not worry about if it's too high

You could make another soap and use these ones on top and just pipe some leaves next to the rose or a vine to kinda connect or hide, just let the other soap more in the mold so it cuts equally hard or the bottom of cupcakes and these for the top. Always a pleasure watching your videos.
@BeScentedSupply
@BeScentedSupply 9 лет назад
I am going to do that! thank you :) on my next slab mold soap i will do the flowers on top and do the vines with the leaves like you suggested.

The women work few jobs at the same time: watching children , preparing meals, doing laundry and gardening, cleaning, making soaps, intertwining and satisfying husbands, making videos for RU-vid and other social media… Husbands usually come home, eat and lay on the couch…
@katherineahrens9062
@katherineahrens9062 9 лет назад
Hello there...I'm still in the research phase of learning how to make soap and have been watching lots and lots of videos on RU-vid just so that I might be more confident in my ability to make soap. I've also purchased a few books hoping to get a good handle on things before I start. One of the books I have is on making milk-based soaps... my goodness! Reading through how SLOWLY and CAREFULLY the lye had to be added to the partially frozen milk sitting in a ice water bath scared the b'geebers out of me! I felt as if I would be one who would end up ruining multiple batches before getting the technique down... Then I watched this video! Even though I've watched MANY of your videos (thank you for sharing how you do what you do), until watching this one, I hadn't realized how you incorporate milk into your soaps... I think reading that milk-based book made me more attuned to what you do. WOW! So much EASIER to add the milk products to the oils while sticking with adding the lye to the water! I would really like to learn how to make milk-based soaps the way you do. I thought I'd start by using the recipe you've provided. The main question I have is about knowing how much lye and water to use... your recipe doesn't mention either... since you use powdered goats milk, is the amount of water equal to what would be used to reconstitute the powder? How do you determine how much lye to use? Is the Tussah silk added to the lye solution or to the water before the lye is added? I'm sorry for all the questions... I'm really a newby just trying to become a part of this soap-making community! Thanks for your help.. With warm regards, Katherine

Katherine Ahrens im so glad you are interested in soaping. :) lets see if i can answer your questions and not leave any out. i give the recipe in % that way you can go to soapcalc.net and enter the values i gave and make as large or small batch of soap you need. I actually made a video on how to use soapcalc. please look it up because i think it will really help you. most all powders will give you the amount of water needed to reconstitute the powder back to its liquid form. I have actually been adding the goat milk powder to the oils and stick blending it with my oatmeal and clay. Soap calc will determine how much water and lye you need for the size of soap you make. either it being 1lb, 2lb, 10lb etc. i suggest to start out with a small 1 to 2 lb soap recipe. i add the silk to the water before i add the lye. that way it is in the solution when it is its hottest. the combination of the heat and chemical reaction of the lye melts the silk. Hope this helps. Jen

"My lye solution is a little warm..." "MOM!" uh-oh.... and then you pick it up and turn around and I'm waiting for it to come back safely to the table. lol. Though logically I know if you posted the video, nothing happened. I'm a stay-at-home mom and a soapmaker, but this is the stuff of my nightmares. Kid wanting me NOW in the middle of soaping. Normally I just wait for him to sleep or soap when the husband is home... Frankly, if my kid had called me before putting in the lye, I'd have attended to him and made sure he was occupied before continuing. You know your kids and what you can pull off best, but stuff like this gets me really frazzled. I need undisturbed time when working with lye. I don't know how you can focus on soap, filming AND a child in occupy mom mode. Don't care about noise. Kids will be kids. Was just freaking out that they could be too close - from the sound of it. Don't want to sound discouraging and I am fully aware that we all have demands on our time and practical considerations and limitations on when we can do stuff, but please don't. All it takes is once to regret forever. And I am not saying this as a snob, I'm speaking as someone who has been a single mother and tried to make a living from handmade soaps and soaped in the middle of the night when that was all the clear time I got. I KNOW that sometimes, there is no such thing as quiet time. For the people thinking that commenting on the kids is some kind of "no can do" because they are cute, it is not a badge of honor to work with lye with kids around. For that matter, it doesn't help the creative process to have two things to focus on. Both urgent.

Totally freaks me out too even though I know the kiddos are fine since it’s 8 years later, but ya I get the chills every time I see the lil ones so close. Each one of us has to live our own lives though, live & let live. I’ve also found in life that when ever I judge someone, that same situation comes back to bite me lol. So ya when it gets to suspenseful for me, I fast forward or watch a different video lol.

I seen a lady pipe roses directly on a marble countertop and though "wow that's crazy" but it made a flat surface. I think maybe wax paper directly on the flat surface, make the roses then transfer it to the round tray to dry....won't move around on you that way. But as usual...awesome vid. One question.... If it sets up....can you melt it or its just done?

Hi, new subscriber here, so far you're the best in soap piping. My eyes hurts from all searching and reading all the videos for piping and I finally found you. If I may ask you...in your Free Recipe: 5% Castor Oil 10% Cocoa Butter 20% Coconut Oil 55% Olive Oil 10% Shea Butter...is this the overall recipe for your piping as shown in your video? and what about this: Additives: (optional) 5% Cream (Subtract from water amount) 1 TBSP each per lb of oils Kaolin Clay Colloidal Oatmeal Goat Milk Powder Tussah silk for lye solution (small cotton ball size) 1 teaspoon of color per lb of soap...is this included in the recipe? if not...how much water and lye is added to the recipe...sorry if I ask too much..I haven't made any soap ..but I'm just doing some research and try your recipe..thank you very kindly in advance.

Well, rule of thumb 3 parts lie to 1 part water or is it the other way around? It's missing from the recipe for piping,I guess we can eye ball it but we'd waste a lot of product,it says you can get other recipes on face book but we can't do that either,well geez,pretty bars too.
