Soar Art 1/35 Dora railway gun corrections. Part 1

Here we have part one of what will probably be a three part video on what I think should be changed on the Soar Art 1/35 Dora to make it "look right" in my opinion. Part two may be up tomorrow, or I may actually build something rather than research and review??

Hi Nigel, I admire your tenacity with all the research on this model ( in all scales ) and hope it proves to make a more accurate model - assuming you build it ! Its late whilst I'm typing my comments so brain not fully functioning, but if you do go down the Trumpeter rail route then if you file a slight angle / bevel on the bottom of the rails you should find it easier to thread through the chairs holding them to the sleepers. Good luck with this, Grahame

Hi Chris, I think you'll change your mind when you see the barrel mods? You'll mod your barrel for sure? Theres also some detail which needs to be added which you'll do quite easily mate.

Ok. Quick comment on the track. Rail profile is also wrong and just looks awful. However, one possible way of dealing with this is to acquire some Peco Flexitrack for G-scale and strip the rail out to use. You could also use the sleepers and mount them onto some MDF and build that up.

Nigel+ would the Germans have had a special track for this rail gun to handle the extra weight of the gun just curious 🤔

Just a thought,have you used Connecto? Albion alloys sells it.Might be a help with any major scratchbuilding.You can pull off some pretty complex big metal railing jobs,comes in loads of sizes.0.4 up to 1.5mm.Cheap too.I m not tempted by the vids to build a railgun yet though.Ive seen the 1\700 railings out of PE, but in 1\35 wont brass rods or tubes look better?Connecto takes away the need for soldering joints.They are like little arrow shapes,crosses and stars made of brass on a PE fret.You can bend the arms,making 3,4 and 5 sided joints.For £8 you get 90 pcs,30 of each.So easy to use.Makes soldering for beginners much easier to handle.No trying to hold joints at right angle securely with crocodile clips and/or bluetack..About all i can contribute.Other than the Krupp history audio book on utube.Great vid.Even if just to stop me worrying about getting too obsessed with detail on my armour.Cheers.

Nice one Darron.. I'll take a look. I'm currently working on part 2 of this video.. Imagine a 1950's Revell kit, but with poor moulds and that's what we've got here.

Since i came back to modelling,ive been going through dragon and ryefield armour kits,with the odd bronco or Riich.So ive forgotten how it can go.Sounds like a bad position to be in.I wonder whether the model was based on drawings,of a generic design.One on paper without the effect of gravity thrown in.Rather than copied the photographs of actual gun.There was probably a lot of basically similar plans of the original idea.A Working drawing of complete gun would be enourmous,but in a scale that would make it useless to an engineer.That connecto might be a way to tart it up a bit.If you havent seen it,you'll go 'Ah!'

Dont remember now.. it was probably Mr Surfacer or Alclad.

Too bad, such a huge error slipped thru modern technology. Any after market manufacturer picked up on this and made corrections?

It's such a shame that so many models have pretty big inaccuracies these days, however, I will say one thing in these guys defence... reference material for this gun is VERY hard to find.
