Fly away on a gentle breeze of music and inspiration! Soarin' Over California is an exhilarating simulated hang-glider flight over California's famous natural and manmade wonders.
Halloween Crazy Disney is trying to suck everything they originally put in out and make it more like disneyland... but i just wish they left this and tower of terror alone, but change is inevitable
Scott Coleman While I do agree that soarin over California is better than the new version, if you haven't ridden guardians of the galaxy yet you definitely should. As much as I loved Tower of Terror, I think that Guardians is actually an improvement. The theming is done magnificently well and the randomized drop sequences combined with that 70's music just makes it feel like one giant party! If you haven't tried it yet, I highly suggest you do. And if you have and still don't like it, I suppose I can't really fault you for that. It was a really good ride.
Harry Heywood some things come to an end for improvement. I haven't rode the soarin over California and some day I will ride soarin around the world to get the feel of the new ride. :3
The music for this ride was one of the last scores composed by the late Jerry Goldsmith, one of the greatest film score composers of all time, and one of my personal favorites. After Mr Goldsmith rode the ride for the first time himself he was said to have been in tears. The makers thought something terrible had happened. "No, everything is fine", Mr Goldsmith said. He then went on to explain that he had two loves in his life: Music and flying. In fact, some of his favorite memories as a kid were flying gliders with his Dad down among the Dunes where LAX was eventually built. He thought that the "Soarin' over California" ride film was beautiful, magical. "I'd do anything to be part of this project", Mr Goldsmith continued. "I'd even score the film for free." :)
This track inspired me to fly for Southwest airlines as a first captain, and join the air Force as an airman. Even when I was younger I wanted to be a pilot. this song gave me the hope I need.
My grandfather and I rode this ride together. He was scared at first with his eyes closed the whole time. When he went to ride the next year, he was so happy, and felt he was flying like he did years ago, and I’ve never seen him that happy before! When they brought Soarin Over California back in 2017, I got a little emotional since he has passed away in 2015, and hearing this music reminds me of our memories together. RIP GrandPapi, thanks for sharing your memories with me
And, I got emotional 🥲 when, I went to soarin over California last 2 years ago. After all, I remember riding this simulation in my childhood from 2001-2006.
The old version was just perfect. Patriotic, even. The jet flyby and the aircraft carrier were two of my favorite scenes. The new one though? kind of blows.
Amyzing12 unfortunately yes. It's now Soarin Around the World, which contains completely different clips (locations), music, and other effects. It's still a great ride but i miss the original Soarin over California 😔
First time I rode this, I commented to my wife about the load in music, how melodic and relaxing it was. Then when we rode the ride itself, I was totally blown away by the soundtrack. It was a very pleasant surprise to find out Jerry Goldsmith had composed it. Yet another composition to add to his legacy.
Jerry Goldsmith can bring out the best of the French horns like no other composer can. Just listen to the main theme from Star Trek: First Contact, The Ghost and the Darkness, First Knight, and The Wind and the Lion, among many epic orchestral scores of maestro Jerry Goldsmith.
The worst part of the change from "Soarin' Over California" to "Soarin' Around the World" is that this ride is no longer unique (except for the ending). Each version of Soarin' should feature a film than's completely unique to it's park's home state/country/city.
I put off riding this until about two years before they shut it down to rework it into "Soarin' Around the World". Until that time, I had lived a number of years in San Diego, and had claimed I hated California so much because it wasn't like the place I grew up in Lexington, KY. I had read prior to riding that Jerry Goldsmith, my favorite musician of all time, had come down from the ride in tears and offered to score it himself for free. Whether or not it was true, I certainly came out of Soarin' a changed man. Probably scared half the people coming off the ride, as I wasn't just in tears, I was actually bawling. All those years spent hating California, and taking it for granted. All it apparently took was Mr. Goldsmith's work of genius and the ride's visuals to show me how wrong I had been. California is a beautiful state, and I am glad for my time spent there. I still visit every once in a while and I miss "Soarin' Over California", but as long as this music is still here, I will be reminded of that wonderful experience I had while I was there.
This brings back memories of my trip to Disneyland in 2001. The best part of the ride is when you flew over the orange grove, and the smell of the oranges. I loved Soarin' Over California and it will always be the best.
the funny thing is as soon as the music started, I could smell the orange trees and the wind on my face, an I could smell the nature and water that came from this ride, as though I were really sitting there on it
This makes all listeners who have been on the ride cry nostalgia. We all miss Soain' Over Cali, those who put tremendous work in the soundtrack deserve so much credit for this beautiful song!
@@Ididntaskforahandleyoutube plenty of the country is an embarrassment if you really want to look at it that way. California has suffered through various issues throughout its history, just like the rest of the country
I’m 13 yo Australian And to this day I still listen to THIS specific music and it reminds me of my trip to Disneyland and California in general but with what’s going on in the world now, It’s all over for now. Edit: Also 5:11 makes me tear up and feel nostalgic. Edit: Also 0:00 - 0:28
I was there to help build it (I drove a readymix concrete truck at the time) I was there when it opened and to see all these IP changes made to original, creative content is heartbreaking. I don't mind the Buena Vista street change but everything else can go!
I’ll be riding it when I’m there next week since it’s temporarily back for the California Adventure Food and Wine Festival. It’ll be my first time since 2015, and I can’t wait.
For my school's band, we went last year. My teacher told us the name of this music because I said it's really beautiful. Sadly, she's no longer our teacher because she had a child. This music always reminds me of her.
Soarin overall is such a great ride concept! Can we even call it a ride? It’s more of an experience! This deserves more attention, I personally think this is the most calming experience I’ve ever had.
I remember when I rode Soarin Around the World for the first time years ago. I have a very big fear of the unknown, so i don't go on a lot of amusement park rides, but I loved is so much I rode it at least 3 times. Last year I rode the Over California variant, and i think it solidified Soarin as my favorite ride at the whole resort. I still have that irrational fear, but I'm more willing to go on more stuff than I was years ago and I partially have this ride to thank for that
Jerry Goldsmith created one of the most beautiful soundtracks to a Disney ride and Soarin over California was an awesome ride I wish I rode it more before they changed it to the less impressive Soarin over the world. I don't really have a problem with over the world, it just never had the same feeling as SOC. The music in SOTW is edited in ways that kill off the beauty that is the original soundtrack. And the way they used CGI in most if not everything in the shot? Yeah no thanks... SOC was different as they actually went to those locations, even though they added a tiny bit of CGI in some parts it never took away from how beautiful the ride was...
This can currently be heard in the Esplanade loop. Also, this is one of Goldsmith's final musical scores. He would pass away a few years later after composing the music, in 2004.
I love that you can hear his work from Rudy in this! I knew it was Goldsmith the moment I went on this ride for the first time. So much nostalgia so much love and respect for Jerry ❤️
Jerry Goldsmith was a master composer and Soarin’ was his masterpiece! They used Jerry’s main theme, but just did NOT do it or him justice. The offload music literally brings a tear to many an eye. They should have left soarin over California in California! Let everyone else take second best.
Apparently, when this was introduced as "Soarin" at EPCOT, some guests assumed these clips were from different parts of the US: New England, the Great Plains, the Rockies, the Southwest, the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, etc. Despite it's challenges, the Golden State is still pretty amazing.
bring back soarin over california. i'll be able to forgive all the other BS disney has done lately if they bring back the og verison of this. still a great ride that i go on every time i visit, but man do i miss the original
