Great video, now 10 years later we can fly the Pipistrel Virus in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 in Virtual Reality with the same photorealistic scenery. add the Buttkicker haptics with a motion platform.. Love the Pipistrel!
Gotta love those pipistrel names. The Virus? The Sinus? Anyone want to to lay bets on the next model? "The Pipistrel Mucus, extra fast due to its slippery, low drag co-efficient surface". Beautiful planes but there is a bit of a "flu" theme emerging :)
The most common mistake made my RU-vidrs is the inappropriate use of music. This is a classic. This one is putting me to sleep. WHY DID YOU DO IT? What's wrong with the engine sounds?
It is an S-LSA in the US Glider - Self Launch (in the government backwards way of talking). In the hour and one half of flying we burned less than 2 gallons o
This aircraft flew from Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Zephyrhills, Florida nonstop. That is over 1,000 nautical miles at over 100 knots and 50 statute miles per gallon.
Nice. Warning: Be carefull with the big contact key tag/hanger. We had two cases (on a trike, 2 emergency landings just after take off) in which the contact key was turned off by leg - hanger - instrument panel friction.
I have a question. I really like the idea behind the sinus, and the fact that you have your friend next to you instead of in front or behind you. I also think that training in a Sinus could make a lot of sense, and that it is very important to learn to maintain visual separation. But doesn't the high wing design create a problem for thermal circling with regard to visual separation? Because you cannot look that well into your turn, and other gliders will tend to converge at that specific spot?
We fly whenever we want, not just two afternoons per week when the tow plane is operating. If it does get crowded in a thermal, we will just go find another thermal.
It is the acoustic variometer. The aircraft is for sale and we plan to replace the Broniker Multi Function Display but it is kinda neat. It is smart enough to know that you don't need acoustic variometer while the motor is running. It doesn't start to make any noise until you shut down the motor.
I was checking the pipistrel-usa website and google. Can't seem to find any US flight schools who teach with pipistrel, for all the efficiency prizes they have won they seem to be the most cost-effective way to fly, but for those of us who cant affod a brand new plane the only way is to rent from a club :-(
Here in Honduras, San Pedro Sula, there is a school that teaches you with Pipistrel models. The school is called "Horizontes", near the local Coca Cola Company factory.
google "Pipistrel WATTsUP", shorter wings though :-). Electric or hybrid or Rotax 80hp, you hopefully won't need them for along time. A cheaper alternative to the Stemme S10.
Great plane, but I don't believe you were in a piano bar! Delete the music! I wanted to hear your comments while you were flying, and the sounds of the airplane both in powered flight and soaring. Nothing like hearing the vario singing happily about rising air masses!

Nice plane, but there is no point in putting music into a short repport, unless that repport is about music!
