Thanks to the shouty fella who says "Let's have another one, West Ham" and "Come you you Hammers", it's easy to track this game down using Google. It was played on August 30, 1930 (first game of the new season) and it ended West Ham 2, Huddersfield 1.

Brits using the word SOCCER?!?!? Now will they believe us? The term DID come from England in the late 1800's. Just saying. 😉

Although 'football' has always been the go-to term, the term 'soccer' was nonetheless widespread in England when I was a kid in the '70s, as it had been throughout the 20th century. But by the '90s it seems to have been elbowed aside and 'football' became the only word used. (Soccer is short for association football, as rugger is short for rugby football.)

My wife (a Londoner) and I (a Texan, not an old bean) had the biggest argument about this last year, during the World Cup. I went to the British News Archive, and found the term used over 1.5 million times since the 19th century, tapering sharply since the 1960's. It is an English term, which has fallen out of favor in Britain, but is still used in Canada, America, Ireland, & Australia.

@@stevenhoskins7850 The word 'Soccer ' was preferred by magazines and most other publications; in other words, by the middle-classes. That's why most printed references before about 1970 use the word. (and that's why you would have seen it in the British News Archive) However, for the actual working class supporters themselves, the word has always been 'Football.' So the difference between 'Soccer' and 'Football' was almost always a question of which social class you came from.

this just shows that evolution of how players play or tactics is over exagerrated lol they play very normally, its like watching a match of modren football, maybe a second division match but its still the same.
