my husband and I were just talking about this!! The internet was soo much more fun before, I feel like we were in the wild west where everyone just wanted to have fun and everything felt new- now it's all commercialized and everyone's just tryna hustle or get mad about something. :(
Just like capitalism.. the beginning and middle are the most fun part until everything gets monopolized and creativity is only valued for its monetary assets. Everything become a product and that's what happened to social media. It was a "experience" before and now it's a sales market.
The "I spend 6 hours on social media, but post once a month" is too real. I actually haven't posted anything in even longer, and I actually have good pictures to post because I just got married. 😂
2012 seems to be around the time when social media started taking over our lives. I think the proliferation of smartphones contributed to this. I would love to go back to a 2008 social media world. There were less people, but the quality was better.
Yeah and the very first thing that happens is everyone panics about the Mayan calender ending. I remember being all stressed about it back then. Funny how as soon as we can all communicate we just spread fear to each other and haven't stopped since.
I remember when Facebook became popular among my group of college friends back in 2006, I thought the whole concept was SO WEIRD. Creating a shrine to yourself online so that everyone can see photos of you and hear all about your thoughts on everything and the events of your day? It seemed so over-the-top narcissistic and invasive. Like, who wants that many people to know that much about them anyway? Fast forward 16 years and a whole generation has grown up living their lives on SM. They’ll never know what it was like not to take themselves, their image, or their opinions so damn seriously. Some days it still blows my mind how much SM has changed every facet of life.
Personally I think the later half of Gen Z (2005-2010) are unfortunately the first generation to have grown up without social media being a part of their daily lives. Those born before 2004 I’d say you can make an argument that they are truly the last ones who grown up without social media.
As an early 2000s kid, I feel lucky to have not had a smart phone until I was 13. And to never get into sm besides RU-vid. Every other platform is cringe. But unfortunately, almost everything and it's dog requires an online account these days and these phones are a damn near necessity these days. I think I would've rather grown up in the 1980s.
I remember how my peers and myself all made Facebook accounts during computer class in middle school. It was fun then. Giving up social media was the best thing I've ever done.
"Why do I have anxiety?" Deleting my Facebook was the best thing I ever did for my dad-to-day. Sharing articles started out cool, but when 3/4 of your feel is people sharing their version of doomsday content, not so much.
I deleted my facebook last year and there has been no looking back. This sketch is super accurate to me! I've found being off facebook to be great for my depression and anxiety. Now I just need to cut down on the youtube 😬
I never started a Facebook, Twitter, or Snapchat cause I didn't want that extra stress. I usually post about once a month on Instagram but RU-vid is the one I spend way too much time on. Any video I watch, I always read the comment section
@cindybin2001 People who speak the truth can never be silenced. Truth is too powerful. Find another platform or way to express yourself! God always gives us the answer when we seek it. Keep going! 😊
What I love about social media is how many millions of people will literally believe something posted on social media without trying to vet it or not. The amount of misinformation instantly believed is so sad.
I had an exercise where I showed students diff stories and they had to guess whether true or false. They were mostly convinced by the one that was like a fb social media post. It was totally false.
I was in high school when the internet started coming about...AOL, dial up, chat rooms, basic search engines, stuff like that. Even then, first thing, our teachers would tell us not to believe everything we read/see on the internet. I don't know how we have fallen so far from that basic tenet. /:
I lost 99% of "friends" because of that. So much of modern friendship depends on social media as an adult that it's disturbing. They always look at me like I'm a pretentious freak if I say I don't have social media.
@@user-rx7uh9mg4f I’m sorry to hear that! That wasn’t my experience at all. I do miss some further acquaintances who I don’t always think to catch up with regularly without social media, but my close friends stayed solid. They respect what I need to do for my own mental health. I hope you are able to find a new group of friends who are more real
2012 was such a vibe. Social media was always evil, but it was more fun in 2012. Even his outfit of 2012 vs 2022 is indicative (OKC with Harden KD and Russ vs a black shirt)! Fun times 2012 was
That list bit hit me. I never had the levels of anxiety growing up as I do now as an adult, and I blame social media and me knowing more than I've ever wanted to know about people lol.
Yes! My sister said something about that a few years ago. She said “we’re not SUPPOSED to know what everyone is thinking about everything.” Such a good point. Also why I only have Facebook for marketplace. Lol 😂
It is crazy how fast social media grew. I mean shit, in 2012 I was dating my best friends sister playing on our iPod touches not even knowing about Instagram or Snapchat. Then the wave of social media came and changed the world and how we viewed each other. I mean granted now I have 6k followers but I know a lot of people but I mean back in 2012 I only talked to like 4 people. We let social media control our lives and it has led to this. Us getting angry at literally everything. It’s pathetic. We need to stop being on our phones constantly. Live in the moment.
Yeah man, I'm just glad I was part of the last generation where I didn't have that crap growing up. I see how depressed kids are these days trying to compare themselves to everyone's highlight reels. And the world seems like it's going to shit too
I deleted Facebook years ago and need to delete Instagram as well. I'm logged off and haven't logged back on. It's been like 3 weeks and I don't miss looking at people's engagement photos or the people I went to high school with posting about how they're pregnant with their 3rd child
"Time to throw up those rainbows on the profile pic, see ya Ukraine" this so accurate, changing the pfp to whatever is trendy to support at the moment 😂 2:02
They’re all brainwashed. Support Ukraine and giving them guns to defend themselves but death to America take our guns so we can’t protect ourselves. Smhhhhhh liberals are brainwashed beyond belief.
I remember in 2012 always repeating "What a time to be alive!" everything felt exciting, and people seemed kinda optimistic for the first time since the Recession. Today, it's kinda hard to describe the overall tone, but I feel like we're going through a recovery period where some of us are desperate to heal and others are screaming how there's no problems at all.
Hey I'm touched by this post because it makes me reminisce to around 2012 I got serious about Jesus and was looked at as crazy for years. Now I look back at these 10 years and can truly say Jesus is the only answer for people today. The fear anxiety hatred propaganda sin etc. Only Jesus can make us clean, Matthew 11:28-30
It’s crazy how sensitive and gullible our society has become over the last 10 years. But of course, Trey is here to turn it into something to laugh at. The Johnny Depp impressions and the “Why do I have anxiety?” part at the end really cracked me up. You’re great at what you do, Trey! Keep up the great work! 👍
Social Media was such a fun care free thing that really made people come together. The evil people in the world saw that power and had to take it for themselves and spread hate. The End. 😩🤣🤣🤣
😢😭 I feel like everything in my country, The States, is SOLD to the masses as a fad or "cool concept". As a result, NO substantial positive change happens and NO issues are resolved but the people FEEL like they are DOING something, making a difference while basically playing on their phones, posting lawn signs and attending cliques that hold Wine & Paint Girls' Nite for Ukraine. It's more ego stroking and narcissistic posing to post on social media and be smug, arrogant and hostile. Just like WOKE.
I really don't see that. It's unavoidable that some of the initial shock has worn off but everyone I know still finds it all devastating and very worrisome.
Haha yes! I remember asking my boys if they wanted waffles for breakfast and then saw ads on Facebook for a waffle maker!! Yes, the phone is listening to me.
MAN WHEN I TELL YOU I SAW ALL OF THIS COMING, I REALLY DID AND THANKFULLY I'VE BEEN BLESSED WITH A STRONG SET OF MORALS, DIGNITY, AND WISDOM SO I DON'T HAVE REALLY ANY REGRETS AS FAR AS SOCIAL MEDIA GOES. Also I've learned to limit my time and attention paid to the nonsense and drama of it all, while simultaneously being able to enjoy certain aspects of some of it's resources to education, alternative lifestyles and theories.
NEEDED for the rest of days or until we get back to the simple fun. OMG nostalgic! Best line in the video - “Why do I have so much anxiety?” I’m dead. This was fabulous!!!
Why is this so true? Social media was much more peaceful and simple back then. Now it’s all 24/7 unnecessary anxiety, people getting angry over the littlest of things that aren’t important, believing stupid things that aren’t true and valuing yourself over a few likes. This is so funny and relatable, but damn I wish people were more smart on social media.
