There are a lot of strategies to make tongue-wetting profit that the average joes don't know. . Personally, the financial-market for me seems the only way forward with my long time horizon (accrued roughly $457k in gains since Mid 2021 ) but if you don’t have that fortune of time it’s a tough market out there almost nowhere feels safe!

You really need to do a video on what to do when social security starts deducting an overpayment from your check when you've already paid the overpayment IN FULL & the only reason they didn't receive it is because they take longer to process your payment than they do to start collecting it. That 60 days needs to be put on them not me!

My wife was drawing disability long before I met her. In last couple years she had a review that determine she was not disabled (even with supporting documentation), 7 years after being married, after multiple waivers sent in, countless paystubs from my job sent in ( on time), letters saying it's not our fault on overpayment..so how is it possible #1 our income tax is now being taken hostage in reçoup excess of $13,000 overpayment at rate of 1000-2000 a year. #2 How do they have the right to attack our income tax when we did our part? #3 if our letter says it wasn't our fault, why take something that is riflely not thiers? Very informative video. Thanks.

I have a disability. I work, but I was getting SSDI payments as supplemental income since I wasn't making enough to live on. One year, the company I work for decided to give me a bonus since I had been with them for 15 years. Unfortunately, this turned out to be the kiss of death, as the bonus put me over the SGA limit for that year. A YEAR AND A HALF later, the SSA declared that because I was over the limit, I was no longer disabled and owed them over $19,000 for all the payments I had received during that time, even though I was still earning very little after I got that bonus. It's ridiculous. I haven't paid them yet, but I'm going to fight it if I can.

If you owned a business and an employee kept whining instead of solving problems…he or she would be gone. They’re using old methods and old…….is that software? Oh. Don't believe what SSA claims you owe. The SSA offices that spew out those letters do not know the SSA their own rules, regulations or simple arithmetic. The SSA actually overpaid me, but by far less than they demanded I repay. In my 10-year ordeal I got multiple SSA demand letters (5++) telling me I owed amounts as high as $61,000. Every subsequent letter demanded some lesser amount to correct calculations. After the THIRD hearing the administrative law judge ruled I'd been overpaid only $38,211. She advised the SSA Payment Debt Center (who spews out these demand letters) that the $38,211 did not include any credits for the US Treasury seized from my benefits for 25 months. Nevertheless, after the judge's $38,211 ruling, the SSA sent me another demand to repay $99,000, not the $38,211 less benefits withheld. Ultimately, the SSA owed me by their seizure of more benefits than I owed. Untrained staff with zero common sense. Bottom Line - The SSA in all likelihood overstated what you owe by thou$and$.

Said they can pull $90 from my $300 they put me down to this month. So now I’m down to $200 a month, and can’t pay my bills. I’m sinking so hard! I have started appeals on them saying my husband makes to much money. But they still lowered my payment to $300. I have reached out to several lawyers and no one wants to help me. Thing to do is, contact two Senators and House member. Either, or, can’t do all three. The contact can be online, but either snail mail or website….and it’s true with anything you want them to do….it must have a privacy form. Without it…you'll waste time while they come back to say you must have a privacy form for them to even look. The form is on his or her webpage. Mail, fax or send as an attachment. They’ll accept an electronic signature, pen and ink to mail. Save it on your computer, use it as a master template, email yourself, keep it in Drafts. Long ago and far away, you could just mail to government agencies. Now, they say they didn’t get it, or they didn’t get it in time. They call it backlog. We can call it…hire more people. The forms they use are dinosaurs. Employees are themselves confused because of mindless complexity. When SSA has to improve---they tout waiting times for incoming calls. Went from 40 minutes to 20 minute wait. How many problems were solved……that's better. Tell us more about the problems solved. They hide behind 60 days for requests. They don’t account for their so-called backlog. Of two years. There are forms to ask for a waiver, state that it is nothing you knowingly did, and use the word…hardship. It would be a hardship. Then you'd have to list obligations and assets. First time it happened to me, it was their mistake, didn’t send the right amount because I was still working, Okay fine. They allowed me $35 a month until the $547 was paid off. I could have asked to waive it because I had talked in real time to representatives But I paid it. Second time…I could not get answers, it slowed to complete standstill. In every letter I have said…to SSA and Congress…… this is not what the purpose of Social Security was intended to be.

Enjoyed watching this, it’s been out there for four years. All those views, you should be proud of your clear advice. It’s changed though. SSA has been chronically understaffed to begin with. They still blame pandemic. Answer is…pay interim. Pay three months, no questions asked. It’s our fault, we’re working on it. But here…so you shouldn’t have to live in your car. Hire more employees. Hire temps. Provide incentive pay to get problems out the door. They are driving with the emergency brake on. It’s planned obsolescence. They want to privatize it, so they slow walk it. Beware of anyone who says entitlement program, or that SS is running out of money.

Devin...fantastic hints. Some general "upfront" questions. Are there some personal scenarios that may put you at greater risk than others.....for the SS admin to think they overpaid you? Let me explain. Prior to taking your SS draw, we used to receive periodic mailings of what your estimated draw will be....all the while using (and showing) your personal wage history....which ultimately is the basis for your later draw. Then..as you APPROACH the time you wish take your draw...and let's assume you are approaching your FRA and are only months away.....these estimates ( now available electronically via your SS webpage, if you set it up).....should be more-and-more accurate as you come up to your FRA date when you want to start your draw. The question....under such scenario.....would it be fair to say it will be very unlikely for you to fall into this over-payment trap where these actions you mention need to be taken? I would imagine these overpayment cases will almost always be when you blend working income while taking early SS draw, and you (possibly) run afoul of wage-earnings limits...and under what timeline this occurs , etc. etc. Thoughts on this?

Most of the overpayments letters I've seen have been due to two reasons. 1) Individuals who are under the full retirement age and making more than the earnings limit and 2) individuals who have a pension from work where they didn't pay SS taxes (teachers and other public servants in some states).
@DevinCarroll
@DevinCarroll 5 лет назад
I don't think I've ever seen an overpayment due to the primary insurance benefit being miscalculated by the SSA.
@TheWilferch
@TheWilferch 5 лет назад
@@DevinCarroll ...thank you Devin, it therefore gives us readers a sense of when to expect this sort of thing from happening. I would imagine if you draw a pension from a qualified retirement plan from a private company, you yourself (or the company) would be able to easily verify you were employed with them prior, and had paid into the SS system. And also as I surmised, waiting until FRA to take your draw ( when there is no limit to what you can make), should also help avoid falling on their radar this way. Thanks for all you do.

Um 😶 ok if you take 1,456.00 and use 241.00 dollars we are left with 1,215.00 and that’s what shows as received in 2015 bank statement. Do you also know these, numbers are traded and sold on the stock market weeks after the numbers are given? We are not the trustees of these accounts. My parents were not aware of this at the time of my birth and neither were I being I was just born. Look into the strawman and Black Law Dictionary.

Ok, what about a mom who was receiving $300.00 a month from her ex husband's Social Security disability for their child. And, she can't get ahold of the father. If they explained that they were n deed thinking they were getting child support that whole time because when they went to court 12 years ago and a social security told the mom that they called this the boys child support and said they would not take him off. Now what?

What happen if you can't work to make income to pay back? They demanding $22k from me. First they stop my payment for 1 year. After 1 year is over, they demand I pay them 22k. They determine I'm still disabled, no payment for 2 years now, and demanding the money. How can they get any payment when I can't bring in income?

Earlier tonight I signed into my online Social Security account which I do a few times a year. I am not old enough to retire but I like to check my earnings and credits. The front page of my account says, "You are not currently receiving payments", but below this is another line that says I have an overpayment amount of $3,000.00. Very odd. I have never received, nor signed up to collect Social Security or SSI in my entire life. Does anyone know what this means? I have never received a notification of an overpayment in the mail, I am employed, healthy, no reason to take SSI, not old enough to collect SS. Is this merely a notification for what could happen if I am overpaid?

I have a friend who recieves SSI $1000 a month and she won a cash prize in a drawing of $1000 that required taxes paid. It doesn't seem fair because it was a prize. Can this be waived?

Americans haven't reached the real "pain point" as of yet. However, we are close. The people who have the means to live comfortably can afford to complain but do nothings. The rest of the majority of the citizenry cannot even afford to complain - let alone address any grievances or do anything about the failing country. January 6th was a watermark which only proved that people were not truly ready to do something. I'm not physically able to jump in and help, and thus unable to participate. I seriously was pulling for the deaths of many within the "white power" establishment on January 6th. However,I wan to see non-whites have an America that can work for them. It is not a political issue any longer. The people in power...the media, corporate America, and the government - which serves the corporate entities and the wealthy - want you to think it is the political parties. Many people who voted for Trump are working for wages that are 1/4th, and 1/5th the wages (adjusted for inflation) for the same job worked in the 1970's. Wealthy and middle class Democrats just run their mouths, and put up no real fight. Good luck. Your country was stolen from you.
