It is positive that your are shining a positive light on what the role entails, it is often left to those who are removed from the professional and or the media to explain to the public what their interpretation of SW is. Unfortunately despite the best intentions of SW’s without the proper investment into training, resources, staff retention and pay the profession will continue to struggle which in turn means children and families remain in vulnerable positions. It is impossible to eradicate all abuse in the same way it is impossible to eradicate all crime but not funding services to reduce these issues certainly does not help and when a SCR is published the areas of learning typically read the same which can only reflect those in charge know what needs to be addressed yet do not do what needs to be done. We are in an unprecedented age with social media being one of if not the most significant influence on young people which has is pros and cons but cons can include (amongst other things) county lines, CCE, CSE, mental health issues etc parents struggling and or feeling unable to maintain order at home leading to breakdowns which then leads to further issues for the child and their family, there was a time in the 70s/80s I believe where radical SW was proposed a complete overhaul in terms of how the profession functions it would seem there needs to be an overhaul now given the current circumstances.

Hi thank you for your thought provoking comment. I do think that there are so many social workers with good intentions trying their best despite challenges in the profession. High case loads and poor retention do make it so difficult to manage high levels of risk and leave social workers and those they are supporting in less favourable positions. I also do wonder if changes will happen.

@@KayleighRoseEvans The changes proposed at worse just repeat previous decisions and at best are superficial generic SW practice struggles with more complex issues such CCE multi agency working success varies from LA to LA, which further impacts on how positive outcomes can be achieved by no means is it a straightforward matter to address and it is a culmination of factors both internal and external of SW that plays a part. It is whether those making the decisions at the most senior really understand the role of SW, safeguarding and the complexities to execute sustainable good practice the current evidence suggests there is still a disparity in understanding from those in the field and those sat behind desks.

Hi that's great thank you !! My current role is a social worker within a hospital triage team. I will copy my interview tips folder below - I always think it's worth being ready to speak about why you want the job, experience dealing with conflict, working within a team, time management, managing stress, safeguarding and what you would bring to the role. I could do with putting a video together about those topics you suggested. Good luck with the interview 😃 Social Work Interview Tips: ru-vid.com/group/PLh98lXu7URH44LV6nJpbPDDxgLROwh_ZW
