Let's say that if Land reforms are passed today in Pakistan (which India did in 80s) then land would be taken from the land lords and feudals and given to the rest of the population. Most of the people sitting in your parliament are sugar barons and feudals. Woh to kabhi khud say reforms nahi karain gay.

Sir, land ownership decreases to 1/4 every 35 years, naturally. It’s called having children. Thus, holding reduced to 7% since 1947. You want to confiscate that too?

Such sophism is exactly what they want, bootleggers and baptists. ‘Run the economy like an enterprise’, ‘redistribute wealth by taxing the rich’, ‘create labour-protection laws’, ‘regulate the economy’, ‘ban imports, promote exports’, and most pernicious of all ‘stimulate the economy through expansionary policies’. I reveal this in a somewhat despondent state and will not be so to exaggerate this tragedy but most of our so called ‘economists’ and ‘intellectuals’ have fallen for this mercantilist trap, a tradition which should have long been dead and yet persists. Still in their misconceptions, expounding some false doctrines, ‘cost-push inflation’, ‘demand-pull inflation’, ‘expected-inflation’... Oh, it’s the Russo-Ukraine War, no it is the corruption and moral bankruptcy of the opposition party’s leader, actually it is a sabotage from America... And to this day the masses revel in it. Then there is the self-prescribed moralists, seeking total reform. An Islamic economy under sharia law and civilised men. Perhaps due to the allure of it, these people are certainly welcomed by the unknowing public. But now this epidemic of self-deification has taken over our research institutions. Though I may be too harsh, even with the backward arguments- they do reach the correct conclusion of 100% reserve requirements (to their discredit, they don’t realise its inevitability in a free-market) Not to speak the blatant indoctrination our national syllabus is (though I suppose that is the norm in other nations too). Till they let go of these regressive postulates, this nation will continue down the road of serfdom. If you need an enemy, it is the state. Everywhere, always and without fail- public enemy #1.

Qaisar sahib is a respectable name in economic circle...I am disappointed to listen him criticising the fertilizer sector for getting gas at 13% of the national tariff. This is totally false statement... The gas provided to fertilizer is as feedstock used as raw material. The price of feedstock is around 30% of the normal gas price for the industrial use. This differential is not for fertilizer industry but the fertilizer provided to farmers. The Economist failed to mention that the price of urea provided by domestic industry to our farmers has been as low as one fifth of international market...it was sold @ 2000 per bag, when imported urea price was over 10000 per bag...Be honest, please

But we have bad experience with government departments like SNGPL, Electricity , PIA etc. Their permanent employees are lazy and don't work efficiently So how will you justify. That's why privatization is a better solution for countries like Pakistan. At least we can have services in time without delay.

If we replace the words "capitalism" and "socialism" with their Urdu equivalents, I think we can be more practical and effective. The principle of running the economy should be socialist, because socialism says that if there are four people and three loaves of bread, they should share them. On the other hand, capitalism says that the one who has bread should eat it, and the one who doesn't should pray. Therefore, we cannot accept capitalism in any form. Practically, the economy should be managed through the market because markets are more efficient. In my opinion, Pakistan has a significant budget deficit, and to reduce it, the government must cut unnecessary expenses. The defense budget needs to be reduced because it is dragging down Pakistan's economy. There is also a massive trade deficit, with imports being much higher than exports. This is unsustainable, and we need to restructure this imbalance. Domestic land reforms are also urgently needed, especially in areas like Sindh and South Punjab, where the feudal system must be changed. Currently, Pakistan is divided into two: one Pakistan for the elite and the other for the common people. The children of the wealthy have access to quality education, while those from poorer backgrounds are denied such opportunities. Market regulation is also essential because, without it, markets always create inequality, as seen in the United States with Trump and Brexit. China and Vietnam are excellent examples of state enterprises operating on market principles, but they are regulated by the government in the interest of the people. Similarly, the Pakistani state must play a role to ensure the development of underprivileged areas, as the private sector alone cannot do this. The privatization of the private sector has harmed the lower-income groups, as seen with the Karachi Electric Supply issue, where affluent areas receive power while poorer neighborhoods face 12-hour outages. The role of the state in the economy is vital, and it must act in the public's interest without relying on the private sector alone.

When Government people that include politicians, Bureocrate and Govt employees eat all the taxes collected from public, consume major resources, the situation again become unacceptable. Most of the public sectors were eaten by government Bureocrate and govt. Employees in India. In such cases it's better to open such sectors to Private management, who can optimize the resources in most effective way.

@@masroorkhalil9655 All sectors mentioned by you are slowly and steadily moving towards privatization in India. What I strongly believe that the work of Government is not doing business ( Whatever sector it may be) rather to establish good governance using minimum resources and regulations on all the businesses as per law. Productivity of private sectors is several times higher than public sectors. As a result a nation can serve more people with limited resources and elevate the standard of living of it's people in best possible manner.

@@masroorkhalil9655The fallacy of ‘public goods’ and so called ‘natural monopolies’ is one upstanding long since the times of Adam Smith and still a much pertinent reflection of state rationale today. Rather, it only serves as a convenient excuse. The good fellow is on the a veracious path with his analysis, one Smith ignored despite the prevailing wisdom of the time and shunted economic sciences onto the wrong path, only to be rescued by the Austrians some 100 years later. The fact is that the need for all ‘public goods’ are fulfilled by a voluntary employment by individuals. Furthermore, in your narrow-mindedness you severely underestimate the private sectors capacity to innovate. One such example as you have pointed out, the need for electricity is easily served by private plants. There may be some factory within your vicinity, producing a surplus or carrying the ability, right incentives, to the production of electricity (might have leftover energy from solar plants). This way competition too emerges and a more efficient allocation is always achieved. You must still have many objections which I have deliberately chosen not to address. I can only hope you do your own research. I’ll provide a gratuitous service and recommend some books appropriate for your reading- 1- Anatomy of The State- Murray Rothbard 2. Man, Economy And State- Murray Rothbard 3. Fallacies of the Public Goods Theory and the Production of Security- Hans-Hermann Hoppe (might be somewhat difficult to comprehend if you are not familiar with research papers. Hoppe especially writes more like a philosopher but it doesn’t have any math in in so you should be fine, I only recommended since it is so pertinent to the topic at hand) 4. Economics in One Lesson- Henry Hazlitt 5. Free Market Economics: A Reader- {do not remember the editors name}, I find this to be a particularly good resource- especially at an elementary level. You’ll find these for free online on the mises library.
