Fun facts: -The man that holds the door open at the airport is Fernando Parrado, one of the survivors that went down the mountain. -The person reading the names of the survivors at the end is Carlitos Páez another survivor, portraying his father Carlos Páez Vilaró, who continued the search for them after the official search was called off. -One of the doctors at the end is also a survivor, Roberto Canessa the other guy that went down the mountain. As a Uruguayan the depth of meaning this story holds for us is indescribable-it stands as one of the most compelling tales of survival and perseverance.

I watched your video this morning and then watched Society of Snow a couple hours ago. Wow. Thank you for the recommendation, because I would have missed this one otherwise. A few things stood out to me. Equally harrowing and inspiring. I was having a bad day, worried about finances, and this movie was a stark reminder that my problems are nothing and that you must never give up. Thanks again.

I saw this last night with dad and he said it was better than the 90s version.

I liked the fact they gave the name of each person as they died. And of course they read off the list who lives. Very touching
@Neyenn
@Neyenn 5 месяцев назад
The read off of the list was actually real back then. The guy who did that in the movie was Carlos Paez one of the survivors, who was playing his father (who read off the list IRL back then)

I am so into survival movies so I found it to be a Masterpiece. -(spoiler) the fact that it was narrated by a dead person makes it even more powerful! -I find the part at the end where Carlitos’father reads the survivors names incredibly touching ,Bayona did a great job with this movie.

About the dead eating thing, the survirors were afraid they would be judged as sinners if they commited cannibalism, but the pope himself told them the worst sin was letting yourself die, as he (and the church) saw it as a communion. The same thing the survivors thought while they were trapped in the fuselage, high up in the Andes.

I’m from Uruguay and the man giving the survivors’ names at the end is a famous painter who funded a good part of the private rescue as I’ve been told since I was just born then. Also.saw a doc about 10 years ago with the actual survivors and they have since returned to the site to pay their respects, albeit decades later as it’s not easy to get to. The scenery in this film was spectacular and gave you a real sense of their isolation and relative insignificance in nature. Found it very moving!

The guy giving the survivors' names at the end is one of the survivors, Carlos "Carlitos" Paez. His father was indeed a famous painter who funded the search after it was called off (and also read the names irl). Other survivors also appear in the movie, like Nando (who opens the door to his own family at the beginning) and Roberto, a doctor appearing at the end

Excited to watch this later this week. I read "Alive" in high school and was gripped by the story and writing, but haven't heard much positive about the Ethan Hawke adaptation.

About your reflexion at 5:10, that's the justification some of the survivors made. To see the act as, and I quote, "a type of Holy Communion". All passengers were catholic, so I'm glad the movie focused on their faith and how it affected their decisions. Ironically, Uruguay today is the most irreligious Latinamerican country.
@princesadelaos
@princesadelaos 4 месяца назад
they were all catholic boys, as was everyone else in the plane. they just all saw the situation differently. the pope wrote a letter to the survivors and told them that they did nothing wrong, just what was needed to survive. and some of the survivors actually saw it as a communion type act, you're correct. the faith is what kept them going for so many days. when you''re catholic, you're taught that god will not give you greater hardships than what you can withstand and that god will either put someone in your life to help you or the strength to help yourself

I agree that the film does an excellent job of portraying them as the real young friends and athletes that they were: physically fit, scared, bit gutsy as well. The dilemma of cannibalism is treated "in good taste "

Liked this flick a lot….. didn’t like how dark the accident was shot…. Couldn’t tell who was who when it all went down…. Thought the immediate aftermath and the first night was glossed over too quickly…. You are right, they all looked very similar, even the lady survivor blended in the rest of the guys….The movie Alive did cast more distinct actors so you could tell them apart easily…. Overall this was a top notch flick ….

I never understood these snide comments towards January releases. I just started paying attention to movies in the middle of 2022 and the following January was a fantastic month at the cinema. I thought April through June was the weakest.

January's in previous years haven't been bad. It's been the Februarys that have stunk, which they also save the Liam Neeson movies for

@@LearningaboutMovies yeah, sometimes after I saw Knock At the Cabin and Cocain Bear in February (they were an enjoyable one-time watch for what they are), there was just a lack of movies I wanted to see until around July. Writers/actors strike maybe?

5:15 When they returned and everyone had figured out how they managed to survive they were asked how they did survive. They with humility said In the last supper Jesus shared his flesh and blood with his disciples, and we took the same vow. Even though I can't remember the words exactly. I don't think they got that parallel in the moment but after a while the correlation was made. Numa in the movie in his letter kind of acknowledges this "There no greater love than give your life for those you love" 🟨⬜🟦⬜🟦⬜🟦⬜🟦⬜
