I still can't get over how Grant was a total bro about the whole deal. He explained everything about some dead MMO to a complete stranger before leaving to go have sex with someone. What a fucking G.
Theft, rape, and murder are not reasons to call foul as they are legitimate actions in the game. But no fucking outdoors because that's just wrong, amirite?
Shiny Umbreon hey you don't want little children walking down the street and see two people doing the nasty. That would scar them unlike. theft, rape, murder, and blackmail.
I'm weirdly fascinated by its format, tbh... but I guess I just have an obsession with text-based MMOs in general. Heck, at the beginning of the video I've briefly considered trying it just to see the kind of trainwreck it was, but then it started waxing poetics about bitches and donkey anatomy, and I went "actually, I'd be better off playing a _good_ text-based game." ... Still, the animators and programmers are one thing, but you have to wonder what kind of writer sits at his desk and says "Yipee ! I've come up with three new ways to describe the skin of a fat hooker. And all in a day's work, too !" The precautions they're taking with the legalese are pretty fantastic to look at too. "Here, we've got this game where the purpose is to sex anything that moves, but it's all pretty legal, so don't sue us". That's a disturbing amount of elaboration for a silly sex game, you're right, tomoremy. I wonder what these people do for a hobby? And what's a "Sociolotron", anyway? (And still, this game is only the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure there's worse out there.)
Every MMO needs a Kellan Grant, that one neckbeard who for some reason knows every detail about this game yet doesn't use it to destroy noobs. I remember logging into Ultima for the first time, stepping out of the inn, gazing upon the lands before me, and just as I'm about to embark on my grand adventure some dude nearby barks "sup dickface?"I never could figure out whether I should have been amused or pissed.
NitroZachmo Well, given that the game takes great pains to point out that you are one of millions of people going about their daily lives, I suppose it took me down a couple notches. Which is good, because I got mugged only once before I started sticking to the main roads.
When I watched this, I was not old enough to hear this history. Now that I’m old enough to watch this, I realized younger me as a innocent 14 year old who has a habit of blurting things I’ve seen on RU-vid videos out at random should not have watched this.
Man... I wonder if Kellan was an actual player, or a very interactive MMO that tries to teach you how to play the game. I mean, he didn't make you pay for any of that stuff. Must have been the game's version of the "how-to" section of the game. Or maybe the game designers aren't that clever. Considering the quality of the game, and everything. Either way, I wish there was a Kellan in all MMO and multiplayer games.
You'd be surprised, Della. When I used to play Runescape and after I had done all the quests and what not, all I ever did was help others. I'd give out free armor and food, and act as a guide for many quests. It's too bad you have to download it now, though. I mean, you don't have to, but it'll lag to high shit if you try otherwise.
Gnosis If left Runescape 4/3 years ago, I love it back than but than I've ragequited and never came back because I lost almost everything during the important quest... I'm still having memories of this game like about Inadequancy, is it worth it to come back?
Bogu dzięki żem Popciosław Not really. I quit it, too. They kind of got a bit greedy and felt the need to set even more limitations on non-members. They also went through the trouble of adding a bunch of unnecessary graphic and other "upgrades" and additional add-ons that made it to a point where it wouldn't really work well unless you download it. I don't download anything, so I haven't returned to it. I'd say no, though. Like I said; more limitations, and plus the new combat system they put in is annoying as fuck. RIP Runescape
I was curious so I clicked one to see what it was, mostly because I could read the website under it never changed but the picture and ad did, sometimes it was 18+ only, sometimes it said fun for all and had a picture of Elsword, my fav game so I knew it was bs. What I got was wartune, it's ugly and boring (and no, there isn't anything 18+ in it as far as I cared to tell)
I wonder if Kellan Grant is still in the land of Sociolotron... waiting for the chosen one. I would love to see a vid titled Return to Sociolotron, But if not I can always just go find Kellan myself. :P
*And thus, DWC15 began his epic journey to find the one named Kellan, the only hope in this world of sexy MMO's with no tutorials. His path would be dangerous, but righteous. Should there be a sliver of chance to find this harbinger of information, DWC15 must first find Lulu, Kellan's partner who he, assuredly, did in the butt.*
And so Kellan logged in and found... people? Hundreds of noobs, more educated than he'd ever seen them. By some mystery, they knew some basic techniques and before he knew it, he had more... activity than ever before. Asking from where this flood came, the name "Brutal Moose" echoed. With a Google, he found that his old apprentice had not just paid his debt, but did so with interest. Somewhere deep down, I hope that happens, just to see a smile on his perverted face. :P Peopled like this comment, so it's coming back too!
2:58 "Do you know, Murder, Theft, Rape and Blackmail are legitimate actions in game and are NOT reason to call grief." Well. This is going to be a wild ride.
in real life what would you do if a stalking murderer was behind you in the street, you roleplay yourself of the situation. I know Gross but its a choice not to be raped and I hate that word, I am sure we learned a lot in this first edition
It's too bad such a nice guy/girl was playing a game NOBODY is playing. MMO's need more people like Kellan who aren't total assbags and actually welcome new players. I'm not saying every experienced player needs to go around furnishing every new player they see with good weapons (that was likely just a result of there being nobody in the game), but the hostility against "noobs" (wow, that is still a word) is ridiculous. Just being kind to them goes a long way. I played Tera and WoW on the regular for a long time and tried to be that sort of person, but I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone rage at a new player in the VERY FIRST instance/dungeon/raid like they're supposed to be masters of the game. It was just nice seeing an elder player trying to be civil...even in a weird ass sex mmo.
yomna ashraf I think too many players go into MMO's with this idea that because they're anonymous the world belongs to them. They can harass, pick-on, or straight up bully other members and usually have zero consequences except maybe a 6 hour ban (and that's if you're on a service with decent gmods). So, if you can do all those things and constantly get your way with no downsides why in the world would you want to be NICE? I can personally think of a lot of reasons, and it's why I've tried to help new people when asked. But I do believe the above plays a large role in why they're asshats, they know they won't get in trouble for it, so why not?
Epilogue: After his first successful sexcapade, Ian Sexy then traveled back to Shola Check (aka Bitch) for a second attempt. Little did he realize that she was busy seducing a robot guard, who immediately killed Ian in a violent yet somehow titilating way. In the middle of their frisking in a private moment, Kellan and Lulu received the news of their recent companion's demise. Fearful of losing any more time with each other, the two got married the next day and continued to give guidance to the occasional newcomer. They soon had a son whom they gave the name Ian Tulips-Grant, in honor of the man who had brought them together. Kellan and Lulu feared their children growing up in such a merciless world, but found a spark of hope as soon as young Ian said his first words: "A fat belly".
Okay but for real, I'm pretty sure those two people are the devs. No one else is playing it, they know everything about it, and they speak in RP...I don't know how they could be anyone else.
I can assure you that those 2 were NOT dev's. The entire game was created by only 1 man!. Anyone that is a "Game Master or counselor" in Socio. have their title shown above their name. These 2 were actually just regular players that help newbies. Other people were playing the game.... Not everybody just sits looking at the locator waiting for newbies to log on. The reason others were not in sight is because Newbies begin and have a certain amount of hours they must spend in "Stratford" which is the Newbie district of the game. There are many other districts to do the other things the game has to offer. The ones that hang out most often in Stratford besides Newbs are the ones that like the game sex, or looking to help News, some looking to get them to join their gang and so on. Most people that have spent time in the game and have played for sometime know everything about the game. It's not that unusual... and to speak in RP again not unusual when after all it is a real role play game.
@@silverbells5141 Oh my god I was scrolling through the comments and I found this... I'm kinda stunned that someone who plays and knows this game actually found this video. What's it like on there? Where are all the people? Is it possible to actually seduce the guards???? Share your secrets with us, Silver Bells!!! What have you seen!?!?
@@frogfireFantasy lmao! There really are still people/players around. Most are just spending some time on the re-done( The Sims online ) called FreeSo lol. Check in on a evening weekend when many players are on. Nope you can't seduce a robotic guard, but you can the other NPC's. You can giggle and make fun of that which you don't know, but Socio.is like no other game out there, new or old. Like a good classic game board. A good real rping game doesn't need all the lights & sound..graphics fill ins, nothing happens that your actions don't cause. I don't get on often these days due to lack of time but do still have my accounts and will be there until me or it's gone lol.
despite the fact that this is just a sex game I really find it fun to go into dead mmos and see if anything is really still going on. sometimes you end up meeting some intresting people. sometimes you're the first person in years to come. it's overall just a fun experience for me.
Epickat it’s sobering, like maybe people actually used to crowd the game but it’s just lost its player base. It’s so interesting to think what it used to be 😢
@Epickat A lot of these sex MMOGs still require you to pay to access them, or at the very least give them your credit card details for a free trial. It's fun when they're free though.
Ian was probably the first person to buy this game in quite some time, even further shown by how he was the only real person. I imagine the developers were surprised to see when they got informed of a purchase after perhaps even years of there being none.
Is it sad that I got really excited when he showed the game's website? I haven't seen mid-2000s web design in a very long time, and good god is it as amazingly bad as I remember it.
@@ahuman9860 I dont know why he died but he sadly died. If you go on the sociolotron website you see that he is the one who created it and in the the link i send you can see some people saying their username so i assume its him.
I played this game back in the day, it was clunky and awkward. Helping newbies was pretty common, the game was difficult to learn. I met a lot of people and one I still talk to today. Perhaps a decade later. I do wonder if its still going now? One of the comments said the developer passed away. There was even in game player newsletters, I would write up the "Winner Weekly" with various articles of game happenings. There were a lot of 'weird' people, but as I was playing perhaps I was one of them.
Sadly, the game is in its death throes. Since the developer's passing, there have been numerous hardware and database issues that hasn't been resolved. Unless things change, the game is slated to retire at the end of February 2022.
Hi, do you know what happened to the game? I read somewhere Sociolotron 2 might be in the works, but can't find any page for it. Sorry to hear about what happened to the OG dev :(
I know this is an old post but.... I wanted to add that I have played this game for over 12 years and it is not sketchy at all. I have never had more money taken out for my Sub than it should. Also I was given my first account free. Many of us that began there during beta and even after got to know the game creator because he is often in the chat room . Oh yeah, one more thing the game is not even paid to the game website, payments go thru a trusted internet pay system.
PD was the guy who ran it until he passed of a heart attack. His wife knew how to start the server, but didn't know how to reset the game, problems with cc billing both eventually pulled the plug. I still have a client on a laptop
For 1 reason back when the game was first developed the laws for video games content was different in different "states & Countries. Also "21" is assumed to be more mature than teens :P
The game went offline around 10:30pm EDT on 04/17/22, for any former players who wanted to know. As of now, there is no plan to relaunch the game. RIP Sociolotron. At least it will live in infamy here. :)
I originally played this game in 2006. It was an amazingly colorful and active game. It would be so busy the server wouldn't allow anyone else to log in. All those making fun of this game realize how old it is. It had a following until at least 2012. The point of this game is the risk. Anything could be stolen, there was violence, rape, murders. Yes, you could only have 2 players in London. The 3rd character you play in Hell as a Demon. Very fun game and the role play was amazing with certain people. As time went on people became too risk-averse and that is one of the things that killed it. People got tired of losing everything or having their character killed off permanently. It is a shame the game was never redeveloped into something newer. The whole game was built by one man and had a large supporting cast to help maintain it with volunteers.
Kellan and Lulu were likely paid players on the dev team. Nobody plays these games because once you give them your credit card info, your finances are a goner. They overcharge, or increase prices at will.
No. I actually played this game for a while paying in amazon giftcards. They actually glad to see ANY new players there, it's like new gay person in the village - they are just happy to see someone new.
Just a little note,I have actually checked, and the majority of those "WARNING MALE GAMERS ONLY,or,ADDICTIVE ADULTS ONLY GAME" all lead to this mediocre mmo called league of angels. The pathetic thing is there is NOTHING adult about the game.
My theory is that Kellan and Lulu are either A: Friends of Ian who used to play this game, and were the ones to show Ian the game in the first place. He got them to help with his video, since they knew how to play the game from before. B: Some sort of dev or mod of the game. People who aren't playing the game anymore, but have the software for keeping track of servers, and noticed a person show up on it. They logged in and screwed around with Ian. Similar to Vinny Vinesauce and Active Worlds.
This video is so old, nearly a million views, and yet... No sign of Kellen Grant. A moment of silence for a true hero. He never came to tell his tales, but he always has a part in our hearts.
Indeed. I'm eighteen, however: 1) This game would be legal for me to play where I live (but why would I want to? It looks pretty uninteresting). 2) There's nothing explicit in the video itself.
Diego Lockhart I think the term you're looking for is "incredibly sexy" (and no, that wasn't intended as a play on the events of this video). I've noticed that gay guys tend to be that, actually…It's SO ironic, because those attractive features end up not getting passed on to the next generation. Le sigh. :P
Wandergirl108 Okay sista, he's indeed sexy, I would bang 10/10, and it's 2015 there's always a way, example, if me and Ian were a couple and wanted a son, it's pricey but there's a way, science ftw.
Jeez, everything was leading up to mr. Kellan doing some very naughty things to our hero: Aimlessly leading Mosey around, purchasing expensive gear for him while expecting nothing in return, having him sit on a couch, leading him into a secluded room, asking him to take his clothes off *and then...!* Nice and gentlemanly equips his new gear and instructs him about building his stats. Talk about a let down...
Ian more than paid his debt to Kellan by ensuring his lesson would reach thousands of people and some would likely venture into the game itself, bringing new life to a once abandoned online multiplayer sex game.
