I came here expecting another sock sights like the previous monster hunter, a logical analysis. Instead, I learned the story of a broken man, believing in someone else against impossible odds. Thank you J. This video was a treat to watch.
There are a lot of good points made here, but the only thing is its performance is completely unexcusable, so I'm still disappointed a game I'm so attracted to is almost unbearable with the constant frame drops. I could be having a blast fighting a monster one moment, and the next when I'm chasing a fleeing monster, I just look at the frame counter in my corner, and I'm mortified.
I really hope that performance patch they got cooking fixes it for most people, cause it’s truly unfortunate that more people can’t enjoy this amazing game.
Absolutely beautiful. A bro means so much. He is your friend, ally, support, and more. Having someone like that in your life is not something you can put a price on. Let us raise a glass for all those bros out there, and gob bless them
This video did very well at looking at the comparisons between the mechanics, weapons and story of Monster Hunter and Wild Hearts. I wholeheartedly agree that both MH and WH are good in their own ways and that WH should not be looked upon as a monster hunter clone but as its own thing. It makes me upset to see this game get so much dislike due to how it's release was. Even though I have not been able to play Wild Hearts yet your video showed me that even with the hate it is getting I should keep strong and look forwards to play it one day. Thanks for Amazing video as always JFJ.
Damn, man. I wasn’t expecting the funny sockman to make me cry. He certainly did a better job of selling me on this game than any sponsor could. Just wish I had the cash for it.
I'm happy that both the MH community and the WH community can coexist with different options. I haven't played wildhearts yet, but from what I've seen I loved to play it some day
I started this video at work and thought i'd save it for when I got off. And I'm glad I did. Anytime I hear J talk about friendship or being a bro, I know he really means it. And hearing him describe the broken shogun and the small bit he said at then of the video. Really, hit me in the feels. Never stop being you brother.
before even watching this, I wanna say that I got this game after watching a video from you and zerolenny playing it and whether people complain about the bad optimisation or not I feel like I got my money's worth, which is not something I can say often for titles published by EA Edit: I also wanted to mention that I played Monster Hunter world around a year before Rise came out on switch, and I found Wild Hearts was much easier to get into and makes for a better introduction to the genre in my opinion
Cool video, My relationship of 5 years ended a month ago. The love of my life decided to leave me, I really love her so much I can’t stop thinking about her, I’ve tried my very best to get her back in my life, but to no avail, I’m frustrated, I don’t see my life with anyone else. I’ve done my best to get rid of the thoughts of her, but I can’t, I don’t know why I’m saying this here, I really miss her and just can’t stop thinking about her
its difficult to let go of someone you love, i was in a similar situation, my relationship of 12 years ended, but i couldnt just let her go i did all i could to get her back, i had to seek the help of a spiritual counselor who helped me bring her back
I knew someone who was like a brother to me, that brother did catfish me for two years. And I really do hate them. They caused me irreparable trust issues and made me feel bad because I didn’t want to leave them. But then again, I do miss those times when we were just friends and he wanted to be something more but I didn’t. So he lied about being a girl and I trusted so heavily. I hope you find some clarity soon and happiness to let go. It’s better to start soon and see it as moving on until you regret not moving past it sooner and having another chance at love, goals, or just life. It’s scary I know, but everyone is here for you man.
there is no one else in the world who could make one truely understand the importance and message of a game and how it differs from others. J i wish you nothing but the best for you.
This honestly, probably the best Sock Sight you have ever made J. To giving fair comparisons on both games but also telling a great summarized story about Wild Hearts story and meaning behind bros. A great Sock Sight you made on something you love J. Keep it up man.
Great video, I respect it, although I don't share a lot of what was said. I found it weird to see a channel I discovered through MH vids sell the weapons, gameplay and world of MH so short, because even after playing Wild Hearts for almost 120h, and liking most of it I just don't see how some of the points given to WH were even a debate. Great job on the video! And the story part was stellar btw.
This video alone proves why you are, by far, my favourite youtuber and streamer. You have dedication and love for the things you do more than any i've seen and it warms my heart hearing this story about something you genuinely love. You the man, J
Thank you J for making this video. I had been in one of your streams for Wild Hearts and have picked it up since 140 hours of playtime later I can say that I've had a wonderful time and hope it does evolve in to either a series or at least an expansion or two. I'm looking forward to what can be next for Wild Hearts and thank you for showing it to me in the first place.
i’ve been playing it since day 1 on console through all of its performance issues and i’ve still had a ton of fun with the game, and it’s definitely solidified it’s existence alongside MH for me
Boy I love sock sights, such intellect and vocabulary. He works so fucking hard on these videos and is fair and elaborate. Some of the best videos of this kind come from this man and this is one of ‘em. Good video JFJ
I love how much J puts his soul into these sock sights and to be honest it makes me wanna try out more games (even though i get finger cramps from playing too much XD)
After all the monster hunter and monster hunter clones that I have played, nothing will every beat the feelings that I had for God Eater 1's cast and story. Seeing the scene in the video where the character comes face to face with the creature that has killed his teammates triggered so many flashbacks from GE.
I'm not interested in Kaiju Fighters, but J's style of presentation in these more info-heavy vids is legit so good, he does great scriptwriting for these
Just discovered your channel today because of RU-vids algorithm showing me your remnant video. I made my way here and I'm blown away by this video I also loved Wild hearts too and think it gets too much flak
As someone who is a vet of MH since the PS2 days and over 500hrs in each individual MH game up until Rise: Wild Hearts good and fun. Koei Tecmo's team is really good at making something different shown from Nioh and Toukiden. Honestly I want to see more innovation that these games bring into the MH series because the mechanics are just really fun
i forgot this game came out honestly. after the first 4 days of it being out it was never talked about anywhere ever again. shows how it resonated with people.
My first exposure to the Monster Hunting genre was Dauntless... yeah. So, Wild Hearts absolutely blew my mind. Once I am done here, I will try out that Monster Hunter everyone loves talking about.
When you get to MH, don’t use the free defender armor they give you: it’s intended for new characters to use to get to the dlc content faster and makes the early game way easier.
Im not sure if its been posted on a comment thread here yet, but just in case anyone is interested in this info, you can still get tail cuts while equipped with a blunt weapon. Just bring the tail's break threshold low enough and throw a boomerang at it, they deal cutting damage and will do the job well enough. Its probably the primary purpose for the item existing honestly.
While I do agree that MH experience would be better with having a story built around Bro experience, I think the game already does that by playing with friends/random. Having to help out folks with hunts, going on long hunts to get one part from a specific monster for a friend, the amount of saves and big cheese with 4 hunters, all of it to be founded in gameplay. I believe that Monster Hunter devs know this, hence why they don't do much with their storytelling. But that's my honest perspective. Great vid! Love to see more Sock Sights.
I hope everyone out there has someone they care about. Don't forget to check in on them once in a while. Go hang out, get food together, play some games, try something new, bring a smile to their face that hopefully puts one on yours. Don't waste time not doing stuff together like I did when I was too afraid to go out. Have an adventure! I'm so lucky to have the friends I do, they mean everything to me. I would die for them, but even more, I will live for them.
Thanks for making this vid. You make some great content JFJ and I'm glad this game captured you as much as it has myself. One small correction tho, I do beleive Ujishige was a Samurai General (Not a shinobi @22:05) before the Deathstalker incident. Also the Himesama storyline was well done. Also Switch Axe/Karakuri Katana gang rise up!
So, girlfriend and I got this game on day one. She’s got a nice pc, and I have a gaming laptop. Long story short; so much effort was put in on both our parts for us to play the game. But it has felt very rewarding and we love it.
im a huge monster hunter fan the second i saw WH i instantly knew i wanted to play it and this video solidified that even more but shit man i really wish it didn't have such huge performance issues but maybe when they release a good performance patch ill be able to play it
I was one of the few who bought the game on your recommendation and yes I have to run the game at 30fps but I still had a blast with it because the gameplay is that fun to me, Doing some research I found that while EA published this game its made by Omega Force and Koei Tecmo whom also made Toukiden which I also had an equal amount of fun with. Wild Hearts really seems like they found their footing with the gameplay almost every hunt (even repeat hunts) are fun and this is the first time I genuinely enjoy every weapon in a Monster Hunter like game as well. So, even if everyone gives you grief about this game know that you turned me and two other people I play with on to a gem of a game I would have otherwise passed. So thanks! Edit after watching: Beautiful video and I love that you tossed out the comparisons at the end because yes you can just like both series, I mean hell I am starved for monster hunter games so please make more I do not care if they are similar I will love them if they scratch even a small itch. I enjoyed the messages about brotherhood and friendship that came with the game to, I just got passed the Amaterasu fight and got caught up with other games but previously had it spoiled due to watching it live (31:35). I am holding out hope for some performance improvements but even without those playing 30fps aint so bad for as much fun as I have in this game.
Let's not forget one major detail, for their first foray into a genre totally different and very out there for them, they knocked it out of the park. In case people forgot about it, the main studio behind WH, Omega Force; Koei being more the overhead (same for Nioh, it was made by Team Ninja, which you can recognize if you've played Nioh 2 because they've re-used the character creation from it), only did 1 thing, Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors and nothing else. They managed to make a game that, even if it follow the MonHun genre, is distinct enough and offer a new and fresh view on the genre that had for option very few games (God Hand, Freedom Wars, Dauntless, Toukiden, to cite the more known ones) that i do hope the game doesn't just die on this one. it's a shame the performance optimization sadly are killing it slowly and the recent patch, at least to me, made it even worse. But for the couple hours i managed to play and pushed through at sub30 fps, i had a lot of fun.
From an outsider perspective, I think this game's story can be easily summarized. The game is hot, and also on fire. In slightly more detail, what I've heard of the mechanics sound like a good dense and mobile alternative to Monster Hunter, but it is a darn shame that it shipped in the state it did. Considering that EA published it, the chances of it being pushed out the door too early are fairly large.
I greatly dissagree on your weapon analysis to be frank. Weapons always have different playstyles that are viable contrary to what you assume. CB doesn't "just have the UAED has its only bread and butter" you can perfectly play a discharge less sawblade combo based charge blade and do great if not better based on matchups, UAED is prefered on monsters with big hitboxes or bad hitzones. IG is extremely rewarding to play and offers many playstyles, i don't get your point of "relying too much on the kinsect" considering its quite literally half of the weapon and its very underused. Your main weapon will always be the glaive while the bug is only used sporadically outside of meme builds, though said meme builds still have usage and versatility like the kinsect vortex playstyle (which is objectively the only kinsect centric playstyle) So on so forth.
Now this all sounds well and good, I should definitely try wildhearts soon, I'm more of a "oh boy, two cakes" kind of guy. The only smidge of contentment i could put fourth is story. I won't say WH doesn't sound like a banger, just from your cliffnotes, it's a poignant and dramatic story. I just think MH couldn't even begin to compete in that area, because the undertone of irreverence and thrill is integral to its identity, even when facing ecological collapse because another ancient dragon woke up. I could never imagine them getting as serious. Although I have seen them try.
i love the game, id been looking forward to it since it was announced, and i cant play it, even though i meet the requirements for it. the games not bad, nor is koei tecmo, but it is honestly inexcusable for there NOT to have been a proper balance patch OR anything officially addressing how atrocious the games performance. i hope one day to play the game properly. and thank you JFJ for actually highlighting the game and giving it the needed props, it really is a great game with so much holding it back.
JFJ, your devotion to show casing good games is amazing, and don't let people get you down for liking something. I'll probably never play either Monster Hunter or Wild Hearts since neither of them appeal to me, but I do enjoy you playing games like this because you make it fun. I'd love to see more Wild Hearts whenever you decide that time is right.
This game will always feel like "Nioh Meets Monster Hunter" to me, it doesn't appeal to me at all but i'll admit that it's nice to see someone who likes it as much as i like the games i play, good video
I've been following this game ever since I first saw the trailer. Despite having never played Monster Hunter games, Wild Hearts really grabbed my interest because it seemed unique in a way with the Karakuri system and the beasts being in tune with nature. I see that the devs are eager to work on the game and that they put out updates regularly and this video is probably the tipping point on me deciding to get it. Thank you for a very in depth analysis J, I enjoyed this video through and through.
I still play this lol. Over 200 hours on my first playthrough on steam, playing it on Xbox now. What can I say, the aesthetic made me fall in love. I mean come on, Hamauzu from FF13 worked on this… I just wish it was better in the performance front so it could work on the steam deck. MH rise works amazingly on the machine, I wish I could experience this game on the go too. Edit: I’m so salty they never made the celestial being fight repeatable in the same save like the other boss hunts…
'It looks like monster hunter' You hunt monsters, hunting monsters is cool. Never would of expected there to be *Yah Main Fuckin Man* character from this game though, I'm glad
1:33 3. It was also extremely buggy and broken on launch 4.$70 price tag 5. Still suffers massively from bugs, crashes, glitches, and poor performance overall
One thing that I absolutely dislike about WH is the lack of openings a kemono will give you. It makes weapons like the wasaga or the staff almost unplayable because once you fully charge the gauge, the kemono is already gone. By the time you reach the next arena you’re back to square one. It’s just a tad frustrating.
You ever consider making a side channel to narrate a game that you loved and why people should give it a chance? Cause holy fuck I choked at the end. I’m fully convince to buy the game when I get my paycheck. Love the content man
34:00 This.. this moment right here. This had my bawling like a child I have lost 4 friends in the last few years.. 1 just earlier this month. This hit like a cannonball.. and couldn't be more true. Give your friends a hug. Check up on them, say hello. Please, for the sake of a random stranger on the internet. Value your friends. Cherish them.
Just a minor correction, blunt weapons are the only thing capable of breaking crowns on certain monsters, such as Barroth. While other weapons do have access to blunt damage, not all of them do.
I give WH a few passes on the basis that it’s the first (and hopefully not only) entry. A lot of people entered with MHW, but few know that it’s not like the MH team just magically decided to pump out the masterpiece that was World. World was the culmination of everything that MH developed for itself over the years. My point is that even MH had its flaws, but with the faith of its players it became something beautiful and the same could happen here. (My only overt gripe with WH is that it’s missing some quality of life things that makes the time spent in between hunts more manageable)
Great analysis! I'm hoping Wild Hearts doesn't die off before it's done cooking as I am excited to play it. Good to know it has a proper bro in it! Reminds me of Nioh 2 and whilst the main plot can be hard to follow, it has a good bro story imo that runs the spectrum of bro-ness. Except maybe the spicy kind.
So the final summary is "I like both games, and they're both good, don't just not play Wild hearts just because it looks like Monster Hunter. More Monster Hunter is More Good"; AKA A rose by any other name is still a rose just as sweet.
Great build to the story between two games of the old well known to the rising starter I enjoy on your own point of view that we need in the gaming community for the future instead of copying or remastering (depends if it's a old fav) thank you for the ride/story
When making the weapons comparison, what did you compare the insect glaive to? Im a ch blade main in MH, but I found watching the movement of the WH k-katana and that glove weapon, as if the insect glaive had a secret relationship w. A clutch claw. does the ig fit into your comparison? Thanks for this video j, this was the comp I needed to pick up WH and give it a try!
There really isnt to much to compare the insect glaive to the staff in WH has a move similar to it but other than that the clutch claw is the closest in terms of gameplay (I say this as an insect glaive main myself)
Funny thing is the main reason I got into monster hunter is because I saw they did a devil may cry collab so I got World and start playing. I found out the weapon is a charge blade so I started to use that so I was used to it and I wholeheartedly agree with your points on the charge blade like yeah you can charge your sword after you charge your shield so you can do some elemental attacks with your sword but honestly I only really use it to get some elemental damage in while I charge my phials so I can use elemental discharge
