I think SN and SC can be easily confused, yet, totally different essence. When in doubt, look at the vibe. SC has a somewhat calm and refined nature, SN is more like the "(pretty) girl next door type". Think Naomi Watts (SC) vs. Katy Perry (SN)- totally different story. I also agree that SC, SN and FG can be the same height.
The hair is such an important test! The tousled curtain bangs Dakota Johnson (SC) had going in the first Fifty Shades movie made her look positively frumpy, as opposed to Katy Perry (SN) who, I think, rocks messy curtain bangs rather than those pin straight ones she used to do. And of course, an FG like Emma Watson will shine in shorter hairstyles.
With this hair test I realised that maybe Elizabeth Olsen is a Soft Classic but I’m not sure yet. I think she looks better with symmetrical lines and clear forehead than with curtain bangs (although she is truly beautiful ❤️). Her body looks balanced to me, and she doesn’t have a Soft Natural type of width (or frame), it is more like moderately romantic. But I’m not sure, what do you think?
@@user-ul6cs1ln6q I'd go for Classic rather than Soft Classic with Elisabeth Olsen, simply because she looks better with straight hair than with curls. Also she lacks the fleshiness and is a bit more angular. Her twin sisters I would say Soft Gamine.
@@user-ul6cs1ln6q I don't know if it's as simple as straight v. curly on classics v. natural. Grace Kelly (C), for example, had curls, but they were neat and so suited her. Jennifer Aniston (N) had straight hair as Rachel Green, but it was kind of relaxed and messy, so it suited her as well. Personally I thought Elizabeth pulled off the relaxed waves from the WandaVision finale much better than the pin-straight hair she had in the 70s time period - straight hair makes her face look really round. My favourite hair/makeup look from her is the one she wore to Jimmy Kimmel in 2018 with the Avengers cast - it was textbook SN, a deep V-neck mini dress with this loose hairstyle somewhere between a bun and a ponytail. She definitely has a strong yin undercurrent, but she shines in SN lines to me. I find the width test really confusing. Selena Gomez, often typed N, does not seem particularly wide or strong to me at all! And Jessica Chastain, often typed SC, looks quite blunt and broad in pictures. Since it is a body typing that is meant to guide your personal style, it's good to see what lines people wear best, right? :)
It would be very helpful if you included more women of color in your examples. It becomes difficult to discern Kibbe types for women of color like myself, who often have fuller facial features and assets. I have seen others point this out before, and I think it is something that should be adjusted. Otherwise, great video.
@@fatoumfatoumeh Systems are meant to be improved upon and thus should be made to be more inclusive (because f white supremacy). Aly can figure it out I'm sure!
@@Jen-vy7ff It is not Ally’s system though, it’s David Kibbe’s, so that’s really for him to figure out (since most of the women he typed are white), not Ally. She doesn’t want to go around typing people with a system that’s not hers, she would get blasted by the ‘Kibbe community’ if she did that.
My body looks just like Dakota Johnston and we are both 5'7. But people are always arguing that "you must be 5'6 or under!" I personally don't think an inch height difference would recatagorize me, when literally everything else about me fits SC exactly.
Oh absolutely! I have always felt I am between those two. It’s complicated when you are only 5’ 2” but have a wide upper body but short waisted but classic style can look very boring on you but not all…
@@di3486 imo a wide upper body doesn't seem that much like SX and more like SN, because soft classics tend to be more evenly proportioned and have rounder edges. A wide upper body with a short waist seems to be too "extreme" or "strong" for it to be SC. Just my opinion
I do not understand how anyone can consider Emily Blunt an SC. She has wide and strong looking bones to me, very reminiscent of the Natural family. In photos next to her FN BFF Anne Hathaway she is notably broader
Emily Blunt is lacking muscule-dominant structure to be considered a natural. She looks too moderate and definetely doesn't look broader than Anne Hathaway (it depends on the picture, but in more organic settings, meaning not red carpet/stage, you can tell the difference). Rather, Anne has an unusually narrow-smallish face for a FN imo (still you can see her face muscles as in "by the book" naturals).
@@madinp1177 1) Overall frame: Anne is FN and some FNs may look narrow than other types, but in reality it’s the vertical line balancing out the width. Emily is more narrow compared to Ns. 2) Chest to Torso: Anne has a wide square shape from her chest to end of torso whereas Emily’s torso is narrow than her shoulders. Anne’s shoulders and torso are the same in width. 3) Arms: Emily’s arms seem wider because of flesh, not because of wide bones. Her arms are round and fleshy due to yin undercurrent. Check out both of their bikini photos of them standing straight to the camera. You’ll see the difference.
I think it's very hard to women to type themselves when we don't all workout or have the best healthiest routines etc. Some of us are under/ overweight. Lumps and bumps or untoned. The celebrities are often underweight, and at least very fit and in good shape. We look at them and we can't all ourselves. I know type is supposed to be bone structure and isn't supposed to change with weight, but i can't wear the same type of clothes I could when I was underweight. Those lines just don't sit the same and I went from a narrow stick to a pear shape. I still find these videos interesting even though I don't know my type. I can just see why so many women get confused when looking at fit celebs and not seeing the same in the mirror.
@Ria that's a very good idea actually! Something to ponder. I still don't know my type but my hair sits best when it's loose and tousled, definitely not rigid or overly ornate. But natural clothing drowns me so I can't wear natural.
Finally, after seeing soft classic and soft natural compared side by side - I now know I am a soft classic! I don't have the broad and square'ish bone structure to be a natural. I believe I will have the same result if I analyze my face as well. UPDATE: 5 days later... I'm actually having a hard time between dramatic classic or soft classic. In your examples, I am a a pretty clear soft classic... but in other examples I've seen, I might not be fleshy and soft enough for soft classic.
@@ellatheellaphant Girl, when I say I still second guess. I know for a fact that I'm either SC, DC (least likely) or SN. But I look at the shape of my body. Overall SN isn't proportional. They create a T with their body and lot of their weight/density comes from their jaw and/or shoulders... which gives them the sporty look. Something about a SN seems heavier than a classic. I have a very soft jaw and shoulders that slope before tapering... and my bones don't seem heavy or dense. It's easier for me to tell the difference when the body types are in their bathing suits. Even still, it is so difficult! My final test was to looking at pictures where I did my hair, makeup, outfit in SC vs. SN styles. I noticed that my natural features and beauty were more brought to life with classic style choices, whereas natural style choices made me look a bit underdone. All in all, I wouldn't be surprised if I were typed either way despite all of this! And classics are rare in general, so it makes me insecure that I might not be typing myself correctly. Yay! Thank you so much Aly for your dedication to this series; I now have videos on all three of the types that I was confused between (Soft Classic, Theatrical Romantic and Soft Gamine). I am using the videos to understand better the differences between these three, and pinpoint my main type. Thank you so much. :)
Actually Marilyn was more classic when young, or right before she passed, when she slimmed down to her more natural weight she had in her early twenties. She wasn't wide at all, had narrow shoulders and had a soft face, no prominent bones.
My best friend Rosie might be a soft classic, she's a dead ringer for nailea devora or marion cotillard despite having dusty light ginger hair (teddy bear colouring) slightly lighter skin than nailea. She was trying out soft natural lines but they didn't quite work for her, soft classic lines look a lot more at home on her.
I would say a soft classic is more moderate in height. 5’5- 5’7. Dakota Johnson is 5’7. I have taken the Kibbe test several times over the years. As a soft classic, I’m 5’6 1/4. Under 5’5 and you leave the moderate zone. I’m so happy I found Kibbe and Aly . ❤️ I was waiting for the soft classic video. Thank you Aly.
Grace kelly a verified Kibbe classic was 5’7. This is not average but moderate according to Kibbe. A soft classic is smaller but does not stray too far from classic height. I’m sure there are exceptions.
I'm not exactly sure my type yet but at the moment I am considering soft classic. I do find that I sort of look kind of tired in some natural lines but if there's some sort of "symmetry" happening it looks a lot better to me personally. Planning to learn as much as I can about the type now, especially since it's a type I gravitated towards when I first learned about Kibbe.
I thought I was TR, but always felt like I was a little off. My body's not as curvy or short-looking. After taking your test and then watching this video, its really made more sense to me that I am SC.
Hello! Thank you for this video! I always think Soft Classic and Soft Natural clothes are similar. What clothes specifically does one wear that the other would look “wrong” (not the best) wearing? 🤔 because I think I look good in both type. Have a nice day! 🙌
OMG, your videos are the best on this topic! When doing my test analysis I felt I would be a straight Soft Classic but a friend told me I am more a Soft Gamine. I am 157cm (5'2), balanced and proportional in size but with some roundness (round shoulder, round hips line). Watching both this video and the SG one, I still am not super sure in which category I would fit. What makes me stuck is the angular part of the Soft Gamine which I don't feel I have when I analyse my photos .. Would LOVE to know your opinion
I love you Aly! I've been watching you for years and I learn more from you than I do at school hahaa. 😁 Thank you I love learning about all this. you've taught me so much
I have an idea. Could you do a comparison of each type with the other BUT maybe add some deal breakers? For example a soft classic without doubt can handle a shift dress. If you can’t you’re likely another curve dominant type etc. (I just made that up). But is that possible?
Hi 👋 another wonderful video! Thank you! Could you do more makeup one with Britney Spears and what her body type is please? Or is there already a video? I’m finding your videos so interesting and liberating! X
I wish I knew what body type I have. I am pretty sure it is soft classic or theatrical romantic. I have a longer vertical line than most have at my height and my legs are short compared to my torso, but everything else seems to fall under soft classic.
Can you help me determine my body type and face shape etc so I can pick the right style for myself. I watched the videos but I'm not sure if I'm a romantic or classic...or maybe I'm wrong:) I'm in the process of downsizing and creating a wardrobe, I'd like to only keep and buy the right clothes for me. Thank you for your videos, what you're doing is awesome!
@@carolannf I have wide shoulders and rib cage, small waist and wide hips. I'm proportionate but wide and leaning towards muscular. My face doesn't have the soft natural width however, I'm almost certain I have a sc face. My shoulders aren't sloped at all, they are entirely parallel to the floor.
Interesting that soft classic can be short waisted. One of those “know it all” here in one your videos was saying that was impossible for a classic (of course that makes no sense) I am short waisted and 5’ 2” but my shoulders and upper back quite wide so I feel I am between SC and SN.
I feel like I am soft classic...or actually even softer classic xD I think I'm curvier in the hips area, and not as proportional as the pictures shown here (though all actresses must be fit and in shape in my opinion, and I'm not). I also feel I could be romantic, but I'm 169,5 cm tall. I often feel bigger and taller than other women. Not petite.... That is why I'm confused....
Both Dakota Johnson and Emily Blunt are 5'7". Soft classic is described as up to 5'.5". I am 5.'71/5" tall and kept coming back to soft classic because my shoulders seem to have a more rounded slope and I don't have wide hands or feet, more small and narrow. I wear 7.5 shoe and for my height that's pretty small, I've always wore the same size as all my friends who are usually 5.4-5.5. I think realizing that these two women who are considered soft classic don't fit the actual height description is helpful because I've been so confused. lol btw.. is it possible to still be a soft classic with a larger nose??? If my nose was smaller I just keep thinking it would be so easy to decide. I don't have a small pretty petite nose. My nose is more sharp but I don't think the rest of my face is sharp. I got my Dad's nose .. sooooo....
Was just about to comment the same. I'm almost sure I'm a SC but I'd love to know the difference between SC and SN. I have a short torso as well. I am almost 5.5" with a wide structure but there's softness to balance it. I gain most weight around my belly, hip and thighs. Unlike you, my legs and arms aren't long.
1) Do you have a V shape at the back from your shoulders to torso? 2) Do you have broad chest or rib cage? 3) Are your shoulders noticeably wide in relations to your hips? 4) Are your chest the same size (or very close) as your shoulders?
I don't know why I feel like since Aly changed her kibbe body Type identity she changed a little bit her description of SG, slightly closer to the description of TR than to pure gamines, that are a bit closer to SG type since they have same bones but different flesh. Love your videos
Thank you for trying to elucidate, but I’m more confused than ever! I look long and lean, but I have small, pudgy hands; big feet; short limbs; very square, but not large shoulders; long, small waist; tiny, squarish, head with prominent cheek bones; long neck; large eyes; a bit of a bulbous nose; a bigger than average bodice, with a smaller back; wide hips; flat booty; small mouth, with straight lips and straight hair. Wearing a natural’s draped clothing styles makes me look sloppy. One glance at me, and poor Kibbe would go crazy. 😕 Guess I should be glad I’m unique because there’s certainly no category that fits me.
do you have prominent bone structure / bigger frame or more small and short? sounds like maybe FG/DC depending on height. I would focus on this 1st and then secondly, how much of a 'curvy' look overall to place yourself, rather than focusing on individual details.
Can you please do naturals vs. other types? I don’t think that’s in your list yet (please correct me if I’m wrong!), or the iterations, like soft classic & dramatic classic. Thank you!!
I think I might be a SC. At first I thought perhaps DC because I am 170 cm, but I have too much softness in my flesh (but not lush softness) to be DC. I also considered SD very shortly, but I can't pull of a long vertical line or big hair or drama at all. Also I have been told that I come across as a gentle person. My voice is soft and low in volume, and usually I am calm and a bit reserved.
Aly, please stop using Dakota Johnson as an example of SC. Her height is 5'7.5" so she's over the height limit, and also she has visible elongation that throws the balance off. She's probably SD. I initially dismissed me being SC because I didn't look as long, narrow and vertical as Dakota, and that's because she can't be SC.
I myself am 5'7 and most certainly a classic to soft classic I believe you're allowed about a 3-in difference between height and range and there are always exceptions to the rule. Personally I definitely look my best in classic to soft classic looks and the dramatic style typically just feels a little off-center to me. I think that's the cool thing about Kibbe it is just a frame of reference and allows for all of the unique features to exist while still giving us a frame to work within :)
Is it possible to be a small SC? I thought I was TR but I don’t have those typical petite proportions like a bigger head and shorter limbs… I’m pretty moderate all over, with a small head, but I’m 5’3” and v delicate yin traits and softness, but not as soft as R. One day maybe I’ll figure it out lol. Thanks Aly for these videos!!
This is so hard lol I guess I'll need to start photo comparing to scale like she suggests in a different video. I was debating if I was SN or SC, and I'm definitely leaning towards SN now. My face doesn't have that super even balance like C/SCs have, and in general all my features are broader. Even at a low healthy weight I've always thought I looked a bit chubby because of that width combined with softness in all my features. It's only looking back in pictures I've realized how thin I really have been.
Hi there! I love your content so much and have been getting into Kibbe for the past year. I am a pure classic (as far as I can tell,) and have been typed as such by people I trust to do so. I am about four months pregnant and having trouble figuring out how to dress my bump and still look put together. I feel so lost without my waist!! is there any way you could make a video with recommendations for pregnancy? I would be so so so grateful!
I can't tell if I'm soft classic. I used to think I was theatrical romantic because my body is not super proportionate (the upper part of my body is narrower and longer and I have shorter slightly thicker legs), but I'm 5'6, so apparently I'm too tall for TR. Seeing this video I relate a lot to almost everything, even the essence, except for the "proportionate body". Can you be a soft classic if you have a proportionate face but a pear shaped body with longer torso and shorter legs? Please, help, I've been reading articles and watching videos on this topic for ages and still can't figure it out. Thank you!
Thanks for your responses! My shoulders are sloped and rounded, and slightly narrower than my hips. I don't look sharp or "dry" at all. Even when I was very thin, I still had fleshy arms, bottom and legs. I think I look quite soft and have rounded and full features, but I'm not as curvaceous as a romantic. I'm not muscular either. I'm somewhere in the middle, I just don't know where. :/
soft classic is described as 5'5 but then every category compared to it is described as smaller, shorter, more petite than the soft classic..... so what are the categories that are taller than 5'5???
OUT OF TOPIC BUT I NEED ADVICE FOR BANGSSS! I saw your old video about bangs and it was helpful, but the thing is have very frizzy and thick hair. My hair is a bit over my breast. I have a oval shaped face, and as well defined jawline. I really want to cut bangs since my forehead got bigger ever since i started pulling it back. I used to have such small forehead. its not hugeee but it just doesn't look right on me. I can put four of my fingers on my forehead. I haven't cut my bangs ever since i was 8, I am 14 now and I don't know what bangs I should get. when I used to cut my bangs they would be so straight, maybe because it was short, it was till my eyebrows. I know my bangs wont be soo frizzy and volumized compared to my hair, I do not know if that will suit the rest of my hair honestly, so thats mostly why I don't know which to choose!!!! I don't want to look like I am a child as well... so please help!!!!!
I spent about an hour taking the test to find my kibbe body type. I struggle with body dysmorphia so i had my boyfriend help me out. I got SC but after watching I think i might be SN. Its really hard for me to tell i wish i had a professional to help me lol. Im 5'0 but my body is pretty proportionate. Ive been told i have a tall persons body regarding my proportions. I have long legs and arms. I have very prominent dark eyebrows (naturally) so would that make me a SN? Ive been told i look like scarlett johanson quite a bit so i wonder if im SN. Could use some input / opinions, sorry for the ramble lol
I'm just a hair under 5'5" and I'm also a soft classic. I think if your overall body type fits, then if you're just a bit shorter, it doesn't make a difference. You can still be that type. I don't think any of us fit into one type *exactly*.
I am soooo confused. I thought I was a soft natural, my answers are mixed between C and D. I am short (1,60) and look short, fairly straight but fleshy. The results would categorise me as SC but I'm too short for that I think. Help!
Kibbe clearly said Jessica Chastain isn't any type of Classic! why not use only verified celebrities to ensure we don't go overboard with subjectivity?
I got 11 C 4 E and 1 A when I took your test...which makes me a soft classic but I am only 5'1"...I always assumed with my height I was more gamine is this a hard rule?
My face is yin but my head is big lol close set eyes , not quite a jay leno chin but close . Then it’s like Yang yin Yang yin Yang yin all the way down . I’m 5 ft 4 .us size 8 shoe size 5/6 ring , my fingers are wide but not fat . Aghh this is making me nuts idk what I am lol
I’m similar My face is more soft classic. But I’m 5’7 too tall for soft classic My shoulders are square and bony, but I’m pear shaped, thick thighs and bum that’s more of a Yang characteristic - so Classic Dramatic But I have a defined waist, not squarish 🙄
How is Dakota Johnson 171 cm tall yet classified as soft classic? I feel I am also a soft classic but kibbe is pretty strict regarding height. I have the exact same height
I also have large bust and always thought it kept me from being SC but this video set me straight. Aly shows here how most of all it is the OVERALL look/proportion/vibe that matters-even if you have a feature or two that may differ slightly.
Is it possible for SC to be busty and have a bum? I had someone suggest SC may be my type because I am proportionate. But I am busty (34DDD) and I have a proportionate bum.
I wonder if kibble was recognized other ethnicities Arabian , Africans, Asian Indian Maybe we need. Genetic doctor to explain how every country is different
