As a soft natural whose watched lots of videos, I have found this to be the best, most concise one. The visuals especially were extremely helpful. Thank you Aly for your always great content!
8:37 yessss i have recently noticed the magic of chunky sandals and platforms. Oh my. Wow. Matches my soft, muscular legs & suddenly I feel ladylike again as opposed to me feeling chunky wearing a delicate sandal. 😂 thank you for all these tips!! Aly, you’re the best!
On the contrary, I would never wear chunky sandals, my ankles are small that contrast with my thighs, my waist and my entire upper torso, making me look like an apple like jlo on skinny jeans but without cheeks
You are so right about ballet flats! I really dislike how they look on me unless they have a bit of a heel. I feel like my heel is visually sinking into the ground and my toes are higher. I do have delicate ankles but they make the rest of my legs look heavy in contrast.
I completely agree with all of your insights as a SN. The biggest point I only just realized a couple of years ago that completely changed my wardrobe and how classy, feminine, and elongated I felt in my clothes was getting rid of all high/chunky/busy collar shirts. They made me completely loose my neck and look so broad shouldered, like a football player in pads, lmao. Now, all of my tops have a square (my favorite), princess/sweetheart, or V neckline. I instantly feel elegant when i make space between my face and where my shirt begins. If i have to wear a higher neck for warmth in the winter i try to stick with something more drapey like a gentle cowl neck sweater (just a gentle cowl or relaxed looser turtleneck, not a big chunky or swoopy cowl) and I will wear a slightly messy updo to open up that neck space and not have heavy hair hanging down over the neck.
What about collars? I have several v neck(polo style) that are less casual but they have collars. Is that a no no or can be fixed somehow, cause otherwise it fits SN
@@JB-tt6ct i think the most important thing is how you actually feel in it. If you feel comfortable, put together, and not stuffy or "claustrophobic" in it, and when you look in the mirror your proportions feel balanced enough and not too boxy or frumpy to you, then wear them now and then if you like them. These are just guidelines for what looks "best", but I think we all deviate from them from time to time and that's okay. I personally do not like how polo shirts look on me, they are too stiff and square and rarely tend to accommodate for the width in my shoulders and chest to not feel restrictive on me when they are fitted properly, and if I size up to try to get that room then they end up looking sloppy and ill fitting. So I don't wear them. I opt for casual v neck blouses in drapey fabrics like silk, rayon, or soft linens. Some have collars, but they usually lay flat against the blouse, more like a lapel rather than a stiff collar that stands upright perpendicular to the blouse (such as with polos or stiff dress shirt). Hope that helps!
@@SweetImmaculateHeart thanks for a long answer. Maybe I could tuck the collar inside. Polo shirt is maybe the wrong term but I have no better one to describe the style. The collars are longer triangles that mostly lie flat on my clavicles, like wings on the v-neck. I thought the diagonals would actually visually slim down my broad shoulders and big chest. Its hard for me to pull a SN flattering and yet demure professional look with a big chest, especially in the summer V neck that's my size reveals the chest, oversized hangs too low and boob crack again.(stiffer materials are frumpy on me as well)
@@JB-tt6ct yes! A collar that lays flat with a v neck definitely works for me. I feel you on the bosom revealing thing. I don't have a large chest, but i am quite modest and don't love showing any cleavage. This is why i really gravitate to square necklines most. Lots of upper chest/clavicle space but not showing cleavage.
@@JB-tt6ctI also still struggle to find the balance between open neckline to break the shoulder line and office-appropriate modesty with bigger chest. Zippered collar top are worth trying since you still have metallic accent that breaks the width but you can better control how much skin to show. Btw I'm SN too but the only type of collars are no-go's for me are frilly ornate ones, and high neck/mock neck while regular shirt collars I find super flattering especially with drapey/blousey/knit fabric so it's not stiff like menswear shirt collars. And I love polo shirts lol, maybe it's cuz I do have a sportier vibe going for me but my favorite ones would give me the perfectly relaxed waist definition and with 2 buttons undone it doesn't feel too revealing. The only polo shirts that look bad on me are those merch ones with straight waist basically meant for men.
Thank you for doing SN! Excellent tips. You articulated things I think I have understood about what works and what doesn’t that I could never quite put into words, and I learned several new guidelines as well. I’m off to edit my closet now!
I just love how Aly always visually represents the discussed image by wearing clothes of that image, but STILL remaining loyal to her own style! That’s very thoughtful and frankly cool 🤩
As a soft natural who tried for years to be a classic, I love these tips! I’ve also found that a sling back shoe with a slightly pointed toe and either a kitten heel or low chunky heel is the best look for me. They feel very feminine. Classic pumps are not attractive.
Years ago a coworker of mine observed that I wear a ton of prints. Found out recently that I'm a SN, so it's nice to hear my love of prints (and their overwhelming presence in my wardrobe) validated. Thanks!
I've been waiting weeks for your SN Summer Style Laws video. You were bang on with all of your recommendations. I hope you do a similar group of videos for Fall/Winter.
💜 Never knew why I've always loved flowy, comfortable outfits. Even when they're professional, I never liked anything too tight. Moreover, florals and patterns are my thing. I think it's instinctive to be drawn to one's natural self. This is where nature never fails you; you'll get drawn to your type again and again despite hiccups in style and fashion journey, which is fun tbh. I hope we connect more and more to our intuition. 🌞
Thank you so much, I had given up on figuring out my kibbe body type, but this video made it so clear to me that I'm a soft natural, as EVERY single point you made is something I've had to learn by trial and error about what looks good or bad on me. 😅 it's like you just perfectly described my own personal subconscious style rules. You've made the kibbe types so much clearer and more intuitive than anyone else I've found, thank you so much for your work 😊👍🏽
Before I figured out my body type videos like this helped me a lot. Nothing more obvious than checking what look good or bad on you and instinctively I was already dressing up as a SN. Thanks ❤
Everything she said is so thoroughly true! She made me discovered many years ago my body type and it changed the game for me. I am slowing becoming that soft and elegant woman I've always dreamed of being. Thank you Ma'am.
I bought a top from ThredUp a few years ago that I still get compliments when I wear it. It’s a soft, drapey wrap shirt with a plunging v-neck and unstructured sleeves. I didn’t know that I was a SN when I purchased the shirt, but now it makes so much sense why it fits me so well.
Wow! Nailed that one & there were so many key tips! So comprehensive & easy to understand. Thanks aly! Something off topic from SN - but on body types: I’ve wondered if there’s a particular outfit that just screams each body type? For example: “if you can wear this… it’s a good indication that you’re --- bodytype.” Just because I notice throughout the videos, there are some outfits that are just really suited to one type in particular for effortless cohesion. I know there are ways to kind of make things work for you, even if you’re not necessarily suited to those lines, or patterns, etc.; however, I feel like knowing the specific outfit the flamboyant gamines knock out of the park, or the one look that just elevates a classic like none other… anyhow- I wonder what your opinion might be on those hot takes for each body type. All the best.
I'm SN and I agree with everything you say! Very precise! Unfortunately I really don't like the aesthetic of moms jeans, but damn they suit me more than any other model!! ))))
😂 I feel this. I hate how I look in almost all jeans (way to stiff for me and I feel like they make me look so much bigger- they distort me) but…mom jeans are 👌 way better.
Never like mom jeans neither. However,in recent years, I found that full length high rise flare jeans (small flares) with close to the body but not tight fitting thigh and knee areas look best on me, especially wearing with my tops tucked in. In colder months, I like to wear flare jeans with outerwear in longer length, to balance out my square shoulders.
@@joannewan8206 dude yes. That sounds amazing! Any tips for brands of jeans? I have a hard time finding some that aren’t too tight in the thighs. 😬 I wear some plants like this in cooler months with sweaters & outerwear, but would love to find jeans that fit like you described.
I’m 5’3 but people never believe me because I’m a SN!! I literally got my height checked a couple months ago at the doctor and people still don’t believe me 🤣
Yes yes about ballet flats! I love them but my calves do look disproportionately huge in them. I'm SN-ish but without any vertical (barely 5'2 with short, rounded limbs, and small hands and feet - size 4 feet and slim ankles) and ballet flats just don't work. Strappy flat sandals are fine though, probably because they show more skin thus giving a more spacious look. Your advice about shoes are great! Thank you!
Thank you for this! I’ve watched your Kibbe videos since the beginning, and they are such a great help! Your hard work is very much appreciated, and your explanations are wonderful! Thanks again! ❤
I have tried and tried to figure my body-type according to kibbe, but I'm close to 70 and lived long enough to know what looks good on me or not. SN clothing seems to look best. This was a helpful video!
Yay i have been waiting for this. This confirms my hunch that i am a soft natural. I am 170cm (5ft7) but dont fit anyone of the taller types. The few things i would add that that ive found on myself, necklines with the little bits that jut in at the neck (like a japenese kimono style) close me off a lot, even on a vneck tshirt they are a no no. Very small delicate prints are awful on me and also a flowy maxi skirt/ dress is more flattering with an asemetrical hem or split etc, something to break up a long wide straight hem. Thanks for this video, its great
Thank you for your recommendations. I wish I have come across your channel 5 years from now and if this kind of contents were available back then. I would surely save thousands of dollars from buying clothes that didn’t work for my body type.
I agree with everything, nothing new personally but, as a soft natural, I absolutely CANNOT pull off short things, I look super awkward 😅 I go with midi everything. Also I cannot pull off small prints, I think they work much better for the romantic family. Maybe if you're a soft natural on the shorter side, you do better with those things...
@@trixi1608 I'm moderately tall but I'm absolutely not FN, I'm actually super curvy. I just do not look good in short things, they make me look very childish and I also have ingenue essence, so I look like I'm 10 years old :)
Excellent content. Thank you. But pleeeeeeez don’t add music. Some of us with hearing problems struggle with too much sound at the same time. Your quality doesn’t need that distraction Thank you
After watching this, I think I've finally determined my type! So many of these tips have been my unconscious rules when shopping for myself. I look best in scoop/squared necklines and typically avoid turtlenecks and high neck shirts because I can feel too top-heavy. I also love high waisted jeans that hug my hips but are looser at the bottom. Boyfriend jeans just don't work on me because I can look squared and stocky. I have to have height (some platform) on my feet so I don't look short and stocky. This is such great advice, thank you!
Thank you so much for this! I’ve finally found my body type after years of being confused (SN), and had started looking for wardrobe inspiration. This was way better than what I’ve seen so far, super helpful 🩵
I am a definite soft natural but I only look good when I lose weight. At the moment I am quite slim but fleshy and I look so much better when I am lean. So I don't know how to dress because curves just don't fit me
You just described All the things I feel work for me and especially the things that does not work for me. I am just getting into this way of diffining body types, But haven’t yet been able to apply one to myself. Watching this video, I think I finally did. Thank you☀️🌿
I see a lot of similarities with soft classic. I’m a soft classic and my friend is a soft natural. It seems sometimes we dress alike. Can you do a video for soft classic? I saw the classic one but I think soft classics need one too. 😆 Thanks Ali!
After I figured out what kinda clothes/style I like, I found out my body type, and thank God they go perfectly hand in hand (exept Ive rly started loving bootcut n long pants)‼️maybe the reason I like the clothes is that they just fit me🤣
Hi Aly! Love your videos, I’ve been learning a lot with you! I would like to ask if you could make a video about the body types when the person is really skinny, I’ve been trying to identify my body type for years but I’m very skinny which makes a little hard to notice certain features in my body and understand which category I belong to. Thanks! Keep going with your beautiful educational content ❤
That was a wealth of valuable information, thank you! I’ll have to watch a few times to grasp all the points, you were going quite fast! But I appreciate the video. Just getting into this topic and thanks to you I discovered I am a SN. Spasibo’ ❤️❤️❤️
Omg the shoe thing. I've been so bothered by how often the shoe recommendations leave no room for variations within the body type. Aly did tho and I'm glad. For example, my feet are kinda small in porportion to the rest of me and I am fairly muscular and fleshy, so I've felt like a lot of the SN shoe recommendations don't work for me and I even doubted myself or if I had misidentified my type. Now I'm sure that I definitely wasn't in the wrong. I think I need a bit more "chunk" in my shoes than some other soft naturals.
If the body proportions didn’t explain it, the style recommendations definitely make me a SN! These are all the shapes and cuts that I’ve been naturally drawn to, but without realizing why. I think that lack of knowledge led me to want to try styles that I liked in my mind, but then couldn’t figure out why they looked poor next to my instinctual choices.
@@di3486 😂 yes! Anything tight. Ugh. End up feeling like a giant who has squeezed into doll clothes (even if they technically fit). Relaxed draped fabrics are a game changer. I’ve recently discovered the magic of certain kinds of chunky shoes & platforms…wow! So much better.
@@di3486That’s not a SN thing. SNs look great in bodycon because we have the frame and curviness for it. Clingy dresses are even recommended in the book. Bodycons look bad on people with less frame or curve
@@user-iw4yl7fp9p One of the main rules of SN is: NO to bodycon. If you look good in it, you are NOT an SN Or you are a very slim SN. I look like a burrito in anything too tight. SN width requires space between you and the fabric.
Can you please analyze anna bey's body type? She gives good advises on how to dress elegantly but I think she could even do better if she knew her kibbe's body type. Thank you Aly
I love a white button down shirt with jeans, but it ends up looking bulky and boxy on me. Looking at your examples, I think I need to try a different fabric like broken in white linen instead of tailored looking cotton.
Yes! I had given up on the 'classic white shirt' but then someone gave me a hip length linen blouse with some openwork (texture!) and it's just perfect. I can't wear any plain colours near my face at all, heathered looks, washed out florals and soft small stripes is it :)
You are always so very helpful. I had my colors done a little over a year ago and I’m so happy that I did. Is soft natural the same as natural romantic?
