Have you tried the Soho brand? They have a sale right now 120 half sticks for $60. Wondering about the pigments and what they compare to in softness.

very, very clear comparison which really helped me to make my mind about the differences... I'm using a starter low cost set of mont marte and Conté à Paris pastels as a beginner, which are quite hard; I think I will upgrade some day to the Rembrandt, and maybe get me a few supersofts like, for instance, white for crisp highlights... what do you think of it? :) greetings from Italy

Hi, sorry for not replying sooner - I missed your comment! Pleased to hear you found this video useful. I think your plan is excellent. Use what you have right now and if and when you can afford it, try some other brands and see how you like them. Trial and experiment is the way forward! Happy Painting!
