They got one of these gently used with the case and several magazines for $300 at the local shop. It has a decent laser, who knows though it may not hold zero so can't count on it. The boys asked "you sure you want a .40? It's a dying caliber." I said let me think it over. I don't need it, but have some ammo left so I may just pick it up. I like the power, even though my cops buddy says it has the same knock down power as 9mm. It would definitely be my car gun, so it has to be reliable, I think this may fit the bill. Great video btw, thank you!! Also, I guess if the 11 round magazines are too short to get a good grip they are pretty much useless? The 16 round mag makes the perfect grip length for me.
I wish they would change all of their pistols to the "grip zone" stippling that's on the XD mod2 model. Walther is kicking everyone's ass in ergonomics in my opinion.
+Jake Leuty I agree on Walther's ergonomics. Walther is definitely a tough act to follow, they really have ergonomics nailed - especially in the PPQ which is near perfect. The one thing Springfield really gets right is their magazine extensions, no other pistol seems to have such smooth integration on the extended mags. The XDm stippling may not look aggressive, but you would be surprised when you fire one at just how easy and comfortable it is to hold.
+Hammer Striker I have a ppq and I agree with that but I hate mag/grip extensions on subcompact guns. I just toss them out right after I buy the gun. I prefer using the longer mags as is. I recently bought a another mod.2 40 subcompact so I have two,one bi tone and the new FDE. The FDE one has a grip extension that I have to admit is amazing looking...but I threw it away because I hate them. It's not a good habit to keep your spares with grip extensions because they eventually will slide down the mag and in a life or death situation you might not get it seated all the way in the gun.
Love my XDm 40! I put the tru-glo sights on as well..Also Talon grip covers. they work Great!! Glock is like Kimber Way over rated...there are less priced firearms like the XDm's that are every bit as good...Springfield makes a very good pistol.
I have both the XDM 40 and the 40 cal in PX4 Storm Compact. The PX4 is dementionally identical to the XDM but the PX4 is noticeably softer shooting with less muzzle flip due to its rotating barrel technology. I have not discovered a softer shooting 40 cal in compact size than the PX4. Although I love my XDM. The XDM is better looking also.
That light laser combo is awesome! I have a red one for my Xd40 mod2. Btw you shouldn't measure the way a gun carries by comparing them upside down on a table you have to stack them up and have the trigger guards flush. I found that even though the xd40 mod2 is a lot taller than my Glock 27, they both conceal about the same due to the grip lengths being so close to the same.
Hey buddy, very nice video review. informative and well explained. I have this exact handgun, it is a nice shooter indeed. I took the stryker block safety, sear, sear pin out and polished them with 800 grit. it really smoothed out the pull on a gun that was already smooth, but made it even better. on the stryker block safety, if you just hit the ledge that operates the stryker and the sides that ride in the slide, it makes a big difference. thanks for the video....
+don arnett Thank-you. The polishing you did is similar to what I do to Glocks, have not yet done it to a Springfield but it sounds like it has the same effect. Thanks for the info.
Ohh, I recently picked up XDM 3.8 subcompact in 40sw with full grip that fits 16 in a mag, I love it, I’m so new to the gun world I’m ashamed, I’d love (I’m sure I’m not the only 1) to see a video on what you are talking about! I’ll try to Google t, but there’s nothing better than visual explanation, Thank you gentlemen.
Yeah mine is literally identical to the one in this video, 3.8 compact Bi-tone .40, I use the shorter clip I think its 11+1 still plenty of ammo, and yeah I agree glad I have it with me Hope to never use it.
Went to a friends range and his had a little rattle in it. When he held pressure to the mag in an upward position the rattle went away. When he let go it returned. This happened weather it was chambered or not. What is it?
There are a couple of possible causes, mostly centering around the magazines. Other than being annoying, it usually won't impede function. 1) If it happens with an empty mag installed, and more than one mag does it, then the mag catch may be maladjusted allowing movement. 2) If it only happens with loaded mags and sometimes does/doesn't do it then it is often the rounds not seating perfectly as the mag loads up. Try unloading the mag, and tapping the mag against your hand or a table/bench (on the flat side) about every 5 rounds as you load it. Once the mag is full then try again. 3) Try loading the mag 1 short to see if it's the follower bottoming out and rattling. 4) If it only happens with one specific mag, then I would replace that mag or relegate it to range-days only.
The XDM has some "Match" features, upgraded trigger and barrel. They are worth the upgrade if you are buying one new, likely not enough to warrant replacing a perfectly good XD you already have.
Unless you actually have the adjustable sights found on some of the competition variants you adjust them by "drifting". With a brass punch and a small hammer (on an unloaded weapon) you tap the side of the sight to move it slightly. You want to keep the punch as square as possible, lined directly up in the direction you are trying to move the sight. Make very small adjustments (Unload, a couple taps, load, test, repeat).
If you are sold on .40 then I would go with the XDm as it seems to manage the unpleasant recoil of .40 quite well. The Glock equivalent of the G19 in .40 is the G23. If you are considering 9mm (Glock 19 or the XDm 9mm) then either would be a great choice. The key is to go somewhere you can handle both, the grip angles are different. To some it doesn't matter at all, others will find one or the other of the guns to be more comfortable/intuitive.
Great video, I only wish you would've included/mentioned the capacity of the extended magazine that you loaded. Would appreciate knowing how many rounds that mag held. Thank you.
+Louis Leoncini Actually it does and its a great pistol. We do have a video on this gun in .45 acp: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IH7-WzwcKKs.html . We also have a comparison between the XDm in .45 and the Glock 30 (also .45): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JBVgov-_Fsg.html or the XDm in .45 vs the Sig P320 in .45: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n3HHsmVQH80.html
Yes it does. But the mod 2 is cheaper and also has the same round count 9rd flush and 13rd extended. Also has better standard sights fiber optic front sight. I have 2 in 40 and 1 in 45acp and I have a 5" tactical in 9mm. I just bought this exact same gun though because it has a 11rd flush mag unlike the mod.2 with 9rd.
