It amazes me how one man can put so much information in one video you make my brain hurt Randy lol once again thanks for all you do buddy I wish you knew how much you help and do for the fashion industry it does not go unnoticed I will let you know that so keep on keeping on
I'm 100% with you on using a straight shank on wacky rigs, it's the only wat to go. I use Brent Ehler's Gamakatsu g-finesse wacky hook. It's a straight shank g-finesse version of Gamakatsu's B10S hook.
@@jimk4267 No problem. They're not cheap though, but the B10S hook is pretty cheap. I used the B10S for years and would tie up wire weed guards on them, but there is a g-finesse weedless model. To me the price is worth taking time to tie on guards. The B10S is stouter than it's g-finesse version.
@@dustinwalker8152 I am currently using a ultra-bite ewg. Have used it for years with pretty good success. Always willing to try something new. I also tie a weedguard. I use a very small zip ties. I tie it to the perpendicular portion of the ewg. Really works well
The Japanese anglers are having good success Wacky Rigging Senkos on jig heads. Have you tried that yet? I agree the soft plastic stick baits are the most versatile bait for year-round fishing. Whatever the brand, I fish Yum Dingers mostly, but have fished other brands too... Thank you for sharing 🍺🎣
Thank you, Randy, for sharing your knowledge and experience. Been basically a trout guy up here in Connecticut but I caught a pickerel yesterday on a soft plastic stickbait using your side-hooked Texas rig technique. Thanks for opening me up with your videos. I also appreciate the mention of Tom Brown and your talk about the mental aspects of the game... If you know, you know 🙏
Hey Randy I love your videos bud and really appreciate your knowledge. I have a question for you. I live in Pasco county Florida and fish a lot out of the lake in my backyard. Last month which was July off 2022 I caught 90 bass on the zoom trick worm on a Texas rig with a 3/0 gamakatsu worm hook. For some reason they love that red bug color in my lake. I have tried every other color and caught fish on them, but I was wondering if you know why they like that red bug color so much. The water is pretty clear and isn’t real deep, there isn’t a lot of cover but there is ledges and drop offs. I do a slow retrieve with a Twitch, Twitch pause and it works really good. My biggest out of the lake is 4.5 lbs . I was just wondering if you knew why they like that color so much?!?! I have gone through about 5 packs in the last 2 months. Thank you brother. I love the channel and figure you might know.
Wacky Vmc weedless neko hook. Most of the time I use a an o ring but not always. Green pumpkin, green pumpkin blue. Watermelon black flake if clear. The go to if I need a bite/limit.
JUST Forget the NEGATIVE comments. Do you think outlining your negative comments is a way to reduce your negative comments? I think just ignoring negative comments is the way to go. I think your commenting on your negative comments just encourages more negative comments.
How come you answered everyone on haters going to hate but you didn’t answer my question about co anglers I know it was off topic but I fished enough Bfl also Toyota series to actually see what is going on for co anglers in these tournaments
It was on haters going hate about co anglers it was off topic I just won’t to get your opinion because I believe your a honest person also a good professional fisherman
@@williamholden7760 In my own situation I’ll do anything I can to help my co-angler catch more fish as long as he’s not competing against me for the same fish. If he fishes his own water and doesn’t cast up in front of the boat or rush me when I’m fishing I saw the targets I’ll bend over backwards to help them
I respect all your tips, Randy. I love, LOVE, fishing a wacky rigged senko. So much so that I feel bad for my other rods/reels. It's been my experience that o-rings are the way to go. The bait sort of slides up the line somehow after I catch a fish and I seem to get more mileage out of them that way (senkos are about as durable as cotton candy). Green pumpkin tipped in chartreuse 💯 And oh man, the side hooked texas rig! Brilliant!!Keep up the good work!!
Off the subject, but maybe to combat the age of electronics and live scope, tournaments and conservation need to up the size of keeper bass. This could also help some what during the spawning season.
Watching patrick Walter's at the bassmaster event at lake fork stare at his live sonar to video game fish..... lol 😆 🤣 o boy where are we going with this sport.
I love fishing stickbaits. I can shove a pack of stickbaits and hooks in my pockets and I don't even have to bring a tackle bag. If I get hung up, oh well I lost a .50 bait and not a $5-10 lure. Stickbaits keep fishing simple and it works.
Probably a dumb question but I've often wondered if it matters on a laminate which side is up and which is down. Dark on top or on bottom? I usually do dark on top as it falls. Does it actually matter?
Like many anglers I’ve caught numerous fish on a soft stickbait. I’ve fished it Texas rigged with and without a weight and of course wacky rigged but never on a shakey head. When should we use a soft stickbait vs a straight tail worm on a shakey head.
Another riggin suggestion worth trying for wacky rigging. 3/8" clear heat shrink, cut in a 1/4" - 3/8" length, placed over the "egg sack" of the worm. place hook through the shrink wrap. For, myself, the action is not effected and the stick worm lasts an incredibly long time . Even after multiple catches.
Just a side bar for those who read the comments. If you have a favorite bait soft or hard, buy extras. I'm 66 & been around the block. I can't count the times mfg's have stopped make'n a fav bate.ie powerbait 4" Genesis in oxblood. Other folks oxbld just don't cut it. I still have a dozen packs, listed in my will!
Randy you are best angler And I’m your fan for bass fishing and I have question have you try Gary Yamamoto 3.5 swimbait and what size hook and what line should used please for me and son ok 👍
I'll have to give that perch color senko this year on the bay of quinte. That's one of the main forages here. I've always done well on the white/silver salt n pepper dingers with a 1/4oz weedless wacky hook. I can cover a bit for water and it's still finessy enough. The way a 5" dinger undulates on a 1/4oz on the downfall is deadly. I always get beginners going on this setup because it's pretty simple to fish. Wait for that tick in the line and set em
Randy, I subscribe to your channel and enjoy and appreciate your willingness to share secrets. I've gained a lot of good knowledge from doing so, the best one so far being how to "skinny hook" a worm. That has really increased my hook-up percentage. However, in watching so many of your videos, I sometimes "don't get the logic". An example can be seen in this video. In one section, you talk about not liking to use a wacky worm o-ring, citing several reasons, one being the "negative visual" aspect. this infers that a bass can be turned off a bite because of a tiny black circle associated with a big hook and worm. Later you state you use a certain color worm when bass are feeding on perch or shad. I can't help but ask myself if a bass can discern the unnatural look of a tiny black ring around a worm, how the heck can they NOT tell the difference between a wacky worm set-up and a perch or shad?? I'm not disputing you, I'm just trying to make it work in my head! LOL
Great video Randy. And thanks foremost to your commitment to conservation. I appreciate you for taking your time on that touchy subject so that my (and your) kid will actually have bass left to fish for in 15 years. A question about this video. What's your starting weight range for pitching stick baits to sparse cover in light current? I usually start with 1/4, but I feel like I'm messing up the action. Thanks!
Great info here Randy! I've never been a stick bait kind of guy, but for some reason I always have an assortment of them. I'll really give them a shot this year and put these techniques to the test.
Go check out the new vmc crossover rings for wacky rig. Bought them 2 weeks ago and was really impressed. The 6mm is the best for 5” senkos but they also come in a few colors and there green pumpkin color i feel like adds the perfect contrast to a green pumpkin or red flake worm.
Randy I've been using your suggestion on the wacky rig and my fish catching has improved . I retired my O-Ring tool and O rings to my fish museum. Thanks for the tip
Thanks Randy awesome hook trick for my stick baits appreciate everything you and johhny have been doing for us weekend anglers I'm moving there in 30 days and I wouldn't know 3/4.of all the stuff you taught me I'll be there soon Randy to take an on the water lesson with you Randy god bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike
I ALWAYS have a Senko on my deck, either a green pumpkin or dark blue with green flek. When wacky rigging, I do prefer the O ring set up though. To me, it makes the bait last longer.
In the late 1960's & 70's, during the "heyday" of world class bass fishing on Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn in east Texas, rigging the hook into soft plastic lures, like you demonstrated, was in the was my dad (a guide on T-Bend & Rayburn for 20+ yrs.) always referred to as "skin hooking" the worm. I still do it at times & back then it was the ONLY way we rigged worms and lizards. In the early years we only used 2 brands of worms, Creme - maker of the Scoundrel & a name that will bring back a lot of memories & still a popular manufacturer of soft plastic worms and lizards- "FLIPTAIL"! Creme & Fliptail are both still in business. Great channel Randy. Charter member/subscriber.
Good video! I think I need to try out the shakey heads more. I also am not a fan of the o ring system. And I question my own color system now lol I read a study somewhere that said bass can see greens and reds really well so those are the colors I always throw. I been throwing this tomato color I found that is like part orange and part green but it's not like split in half the inside is orange and the outside is like a see through green.. pretty sharp looking color. And last year I caught my biggest bass of the season with a bright hunting orange trick worm lol everyone laughed at me in my club and I destroyed them all with it! I also see some other pros throwing pink worms whacky style. Thanks for the video Randy! Always love starting my day out with something to think about!
Good heavens, where have I been that roughing them up was new to me?! I had not heard 9f that before this video!! 💯🔥of an idea, a real light bulb 💡 moment. THANKS 😊 FOR THE TIP.
Thank you for a very good youtube chanell Randy. I want to ask and hear what you have to say about it. Even if the hook is weedless the head of the shaky hook is that point that collect grass. What do you have to say about that? Magnus Andersson Sweden.
My first try with the wacky zlinky and no O ring was this morning. I'll never use the O ring for wacky again and I'll probably never buy another stckbait but the zlinky. Thanks for the assist.
Thought you said in your video about selecting hooks for soft plastics that you didn’t really see a difference in hook up ratio between EWGs and Straight shanks, with the exception of flipping with a big tungsten weight, but in this one you say you lose a lot of fish on EWGs???
Owner Twistlock 4/0 is best hook for Texas rig. Try the weighted ones too. If you are not throwing Wacky with a weedless hook, you are not throwing it where the bass live.
I use heat shrink on my wacky. I can hook them just like you demonstrated and it won’t cut through it like an o-ring because it’s a bit more broad. I quadrupled my stick bait life by doing so!
Any idea about 30+ temperature deference, im in Louisiana, morning its about 45 f and sometimes it reaches 80 F in like 6 or 7 hours, the fish going crazy and they driving us crazy
