From the large and miscellaneous, though mostly classical, archive of 78rpm gramophone records that I assembled as a child. This record was played on an HMV Model 102 from about 1931, and remastered with a Blue Yeti microphone and Audacity.
I applied the minimum of software processing. The idea of this project is not to try to make recordings from the past sound modern, or to bring out everything that may be on the record. The idea is instead to show how the record sounded in its own day when played on reasonably good equipment. There are few people left who have experienced this.
The record details are on the label.

I do wish posters would use the best modern technology in reproducing these old records - there is much more gold in them-there grooves than one would have guessed from acoustic reproduction, and with proper pitch stabilization, equalization and noise reduction they can sound really marvellous. Sample the work of Ward Marston and Chris Zwarg if you don't believe me.

The purpose was to show how it would have sounded on decent reproduction equipment of the age. As for damage by steel needles, my own experience of half a century is that there is perceptible damage the first time a record is played. After the first dozen plays there is no more perceptible damage until it's been played more than about five hundred times.
