Time to get reel! Softube's Tape plug-in adds cohesion and weight to your mixes. But Tape goes far beyond your average tape machine emulation. It includes three distinctly different tape machine types, and it offers the ease of use and low CPU strain that today's music creators rightfully expect.

This makes violins sound so silky smooth. This is actually one of my favorite tape plugins next to J37 and Kramer.

Outside of general high/low passing where customary, I’m finding that I reach for EQ to get a track sitting right last, more and more. Compression and saturation, and talking subtle amounts of saturation, can completely transform the character of a sound in the mix. Without carving things up and still not being thrilled. Some of my most used plugins are *so* subtle, just to add harmonics, warm a sound up, round it out, beef it up, push it back by rolling off the highs gently with a tape sim. I’m with you 100% and the Softube tape is wonderful. IK’s Tape might be the top, but prepare for CPU pain. That’s a mix buss choice alone for me haha. This one can go anywhere
@SoundkandyStudio
@SoundkandyStudio 3 года назад
I totally agree bro, I’m not sure IK's tape sim is top, as, like you its CPU drain is a massive problem to me also. I’d like to think that IK will fix this issue in a future update but who knows. Nevertheless you simply can’t go wrong with Softube, it’s a fabulous product. Thanks for your comment bro, much appreciated.

One thing you haven't mentioned, specifically for studio one, you can use Tape as a mix engine effect. Meaning that if you put it on the master you can have it process every track running into it individually.

Very true, your absolutely right, thanks for pointing this out my friend... :-)

@@adamthomas1246 You can put mix engine FX on busses in Studio one. It's right above channel FX.

I wish for all plugins to have a SC filter or an Eq on the Wet portion of the signal. So usefull. Tape saturation many times is too much on a thicker kind of track but ca ndo wonders if applied only starting at the higher mids

@@SoundkandyStudio you probably know it already but one that is very very good in various methods of distortion (tube , tape you name it) and can be applied in a multiband way is spectre by wavesfactory

I’m looking for a tape sim that run on every track for warm saturation on my stems. Is that possible with this plug?
@SoundkandyStudio
@SoundkandyStudio 5 лет назад
Absolutely, this plug is simply fantastic. You may also like to take a look at: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TuJYn51skXY.html it's another tape sim also with great sound, but for as I've mentioned before the Softube tape plug is my go to plug for tape simulation, you'll need an iLock, but it's well worth a look, grab yourself a demo copy and have a play with it. Thanks for your comment.

would you use this on every track ,at the end of the chain ? thanks
@SoundkandyStudio
@SoundkandyStudio 4 года назад
Hi, yes, absolutely you can, however, I personally only ever use one instance of the plug-in on the master buss at the end of my effects chain. I know many people use multiple instances of the plug in their workflow but I prefer to limit its usage to a single instance. One of the key things to bare in mind is “what is the desired effect” you are trying to achieve. If you’d like to simply give your track a little vintage warmth then a single instance will do the trick. If however you’d like a particular sound, on, say, the guitar track then yes, it may be prudent to add tape saturation to the track and all tracks that need individual effects processing. But for what I’m doing I really only need one instance of the plug. Hope this all makes sense and is helpful. Thanks for your comment.

@@yamansitar6153 Good question, I too have the Kramer Master Tape by waves, it’s a great plug also. However if I have to choose I’m still going to go for the Softube plug. I really do love the Waves stuff it’s just that I personally like the warmth, rich and smooth sound of the Softube. If you’re looking at tape simulators why not also look at Waves J37 tape, U-He Satin, VTM (Virtual Tape Machines) by Slate digital and Tonebosters ReelBus 4. Just to name a few.

Thanks for your comment. “Poxy Rave Drum”, really? Drums have been around for a long time, archeologists confirm that the oldest drums-the alligator drums-are found in dig sites where the Dawenkou civilization around 550 BC. I’m sure people then didn’t complain saying, wow, that sounds like some “Poxy Rave Drum”. Perhaps you have an issue with drums, rave or just me. Either way you are not compelled to watch or listen to any of my content, I’m sure you have more important things to do with your time. The music on my videos is supplementary, simply there to demonstrate the plugins, if the music isn’t to your taste then that’s unfortunate, perhaps other channels will serve you better…!
