I just picked it up from watching your video. As a guy that deals with factory work 8-10 hours a day, this will be in my rotation/truck carry. Definitely will make an update once I have gotten some use with it!
I've never needed a multi-tool, though I own a Leatherman Surge that I bought at a flea market for $10.00. I've always had tools in my vehicle and a personal bag that I carry everywhere. So, I've been looking at multi-tool videos lately. The ONLY one that has gained my interest is the SOG Ppwer Access Assist. Thanx for the video my Brother 👍 ⚔️ ✝️ 🇺🇲
Just recently lost my power assist, had them for years and loved them so much, the v cutter broke about a year ago but other than that they were so reliable and honestly I'm sad it's gone. The tool and death ripped off my belt and I didn't notice it, I hope whoever has it now puts it to good use ahaha, just ordered an access assist so I'm excited to see how it serves me
I picked this up about 3 months ago and been carrying it everyday. It is a good too but with the lack of a file and scissors I still go back to my swiss tool sometimes when I need them. It has a few bugs but over all I do enjoy carrying this tool. Very good video hope you do a review after you use it for a bit.
Hi, I just picked one up from Amazon, but there is significant blade play side to side. Is that normal or should I return it or send it in for warranty repair? Thanks
If you tighten the big screw the knife pivot i think its called it will fix the blade play i have 2 mine have 0 play I purposely added abit on one to make it easier to open because i was struggling to open it and found it to stiff but today I learnt its not stiff at all I was just not using the correct method now I can flick em open so so easily using the correct method and I have tightened the screw back up to get rid of the blade play I added
SOG stepped it up a tad! 👏🏻 Still waiting for more of an everyday work tool from ALL of the makers, more so than an outdoors tool, though… minus the can opener, bottle opener, saw, etc.. But, seeing as how it’s SOG, I see their reasons behind survival, outdoors stuff, it’s how they got started. But it’s still a nice mashup of the two tools. I guess I’m still gonna have to get it, though. 🙄
You should get it lol! I still have to say the discontinued SOG Pocket Power Plier is just amazing. Sort of like the PST, an everyday tool, it is light and butter smooth to operate!
Ikr. Pliers ✔ Knife✔ Locking Chisel /file on back Stanley knife blade locking Pen? Screw bit hole✔ Better scissors Mini light Micro butane lighter or permanent match. Parcel opener like Gerber mini...i use daily to open locked doors and scratch mark metal. Thats my pocket clutter sorted.
They stepped it down. Manufacturing went from Taiwan 420HC to chinese 5cr15mov. Quality has dropped exponentially. It actually makes me sad because the tool had so much potential but they really messed up on the manufacturing and materials
Is the assist easy to deploy I got the mt flash and its very very stiff I've tried oiling it opening and closing it a good 200 300 times it's gone slightly better but still super stiff the knife is even getting scratched from side where it seems to tightly fitted in the frame
I found the PowerAccess Assist easy to deploy. But my FlashMt seems pretty smooth as well. I don't think these tools will ever deploy as easy as some butter smooth pocket knives but they seem ok.
@@hvacbudget8600 I know it may sound like a weird question but do u think a 5 6 year old could deploy the mt flash one handed because of my muscle weakness I have the same kind of strength as a 5 6 year old I'm just trying to make sure I haven't just got a bad one I don't want to buy a new one if they all the same and its normal
@@sully9836 So I had both my 6 year old and 8 year old try the FlashMT and my 6 year old basically needed two hands to open it. My eight year old could do it but found it hard. Both of them oddly found the SOG Power Access Assist much easier. They both could open the blades even though the tool itself is much heavier. That's just how my tools worked.
Thank you so much I really appreciate it you given me the answers I been trying to find for a while that I couldn't find anywhere else appreciate that it seems like its normal and buying a new one won't make a difference and I just don't have the strength to deploy it one handed
@@hvacbudget8600 lol I'm so so pleased I can open it one handed so so easily now I'm actually shocked how easy it is I bought a bug out 535 and I decided to try the same method of hand placement and the flick on the sog and I can open it so so so easy turns out I was using to much power and kind of pushing the blade downwards and my hand placement was wrong with the correct placement and using less power and pushing it at a kind of upwards angle its so so easy I can do it first time every time that I decided to buy more sorry lol its just made me so excited and pleased being able to open it one handed easily I think alot people who compalin it is stiff are making the same mistake I wish there was a video lol of the correct hand placement and correct way to open so I found out way earlier but I'm super happy now and if I can do it easily anyone can because of my disability I struggle to lift 1kg so I don't have alot power and if someone like me can accidentally be using to much power then for a normal person I think it would be way more easier to add to much power and struggle to open it and believing its stiff
I am right now looking on line for the cheapest price $89 seems to be it. Unless I do used which I don’t have any problems with I know that black oxide from the Gerber’s and I will never get a Leatherman with it.
I just ordered mine with tax and shipping $90. I got the stonewashed must of my other multi tools are black mix it up a bit. I am hoping that they are better than the 80’s SOG and the Para that you reviewed. I am always looking for good multi tools Nextool Sailor being delivered today.
Wouldn't the black oxide help against rust? I was going to get the stonewash version but, from my understanding of the stonewash process it will rust faster than the black oxide will.
Yes it seems from what I've read the black oxide helps prevent rust. It also adds a very small layer to the steel. The stonewashed can look nicer and also help hide small scratches.
@Hvac Budget Thanks for the reply. I have decided to get the SOG in the black oxide. I think it will be a good SHTF tool for what is coming real soon. I agree with you though, the stonewash will show less wear as long as you can keep it from rusting.
This would be good for heavy duty use for equipment & aircraft mechanics. For myself which I am not, it's not for me. I prefer something way smaller like a Leatherman rebar or a Gerber MP600. That's just me, my choice of a lighter EDC. Good review though, very interesting.
Good points. Have you ever used the Leatherman juice or the SOG PowerPint? They might be a bit to small. The Rev and the Mp600 are nice midsize multi tools.
I have owned several leatherman 3 Gerbers 1 SOG and about 10 different Amazon multi tools and nothing rivals the quality and durability of leatherman not even close! I would rank SOG second and Gerber slightly above the Amazon brands. The only down side of the SOG’s is they use a softer steel than Leatherman so the durability is not on the same level.
As a side note all of my Gerbers are currently broken and all of my Leatherman’s are still working and sometimes I use them as a hammer. I am not easy on my multi tools and I have seen some flex in my SOG when using but it has not broke yet. I think I have learned the limits it can be pushed to. The Leatherman’s I beat like a red headed step child without mercy especially the Surge and Super Tool 300. They are stronger than me. I’m sure they can be broken but not by any kind of normal tool use. Just my experience. Take it for what it’s worth.
Does SOG offer this in a stainless finish too or only the black oxide coating? I like the look of the black oxide type coating but never had a multitool with that finish. Just clicked your link and the stainless version is called "stonewashed".
It does come in the stonewashed as well. Some people have complained about the black oxide coating coming off. That hasn't been an issue for me as yet.
I think it is pretty good. I used it for a while at work and had no real issues. Some people complain the assisted springs on the outside tools are a failure point but I haven't had that issue.
I just got a Powerpint, it's a really good multitool, it has a very good pliers and file for its size. And a and a great alternative to the Latherman juice, which is my favorite multitool due to the size and features it provides, but it's been discontinued. And I liked the Powerpint so much it's become my main multitool and my edc
@@hvacbudget8600 well hey man, love your videos by the way.. so i bought in in Holland so not directly from SOG USA, i used for a couple of days like i said and not intensely, just pliers and occasionally the knife, and then i was working on a tiny step ladder ( 2 tread ladder, like not even a meter tall, i have a photo if ya wanna see) and i dropped it on a tiled floor. The locking mechanism plate broke off and i had been using the little bit driver at the time so also the little metal clasp on that driver head came off too and got bent. took me ages to find both those parts. I got a mail back from the Dutch knife company and he said that SOG had said that this problem was not covered by the warranty...🙄 like...wait what? just from dropping it? i was pretty pissed as you can imagine. I use multitools all day and have done for years, mainly Gerberś. Mine is now 12 years old and have dropped it from great heights ( i do rigging etc) and it never even scratched. so this was a kick in the balls, specially as its like 3 times the price of a Gerber in Holland right now, again shame, i had read alot about this tool and thought this is the one for me and hopefully will be my EDC from now on...anyway, i will just repair it and keep my leatherman and Gerber close by just in case😂...life time warrenty my arse..maybe i should just mail SOG directly, but this has been going on since the 14 of December. Anyway, thanx for reaching out and keep up the good work
@@tamhederson I would definitely try to contact SOG directly. Unfortunately out of country might complicate matters. Let me know if it gets resolved. Feel free to email pictures if you want to robertditus@gmail.com
I dont understand why they would make a dedicated socket as a tool when they could have just added socket bit itself. then it would be centered like using the other bits.
I think the socket bit you mentioned might be too thick causing them to need to remove one or two other tools. Probably it was a decision where they found out people want the most tools possible jammed into a large multi tool.
