After getting the Tac XR, I have to admit I'm thoroughly impressed. Definitely well built and has a good weight to it, as well a really ergonomic handle which makes using it a dream.
Brother, what an excellent review of the tac xr! So much so that it's more than worthy of a new subscription on my end! Especially love the snaps of the breakdown comparisons.. Keep these great reviews coming. Cheers
This was an excellent review. I've been attracted to this knife since I first saw it, but you really got me excited about it, and that made the difference, so now I'm gonna go ahead and buy it. Thanks a lot, and keep up the good work.
Excellent review, I'm debating whether to get this knife or the Pentagon, but after seeing this review and the price difference, the Sog Tac Xr it will be. Keep the excellent knives reviews coming!
Great review, waiting for the non serated to be delivered. Simple and honest, great reviewing style. Sadly, I'm in the UK, so our range is a little limited, but SOG and Ka-Bar have made the effort to sell here properly. Will definitely be following your reviews 👍 I have a 500 year old Wakazashi - that is a crazy blade, absolutely stunning, not quite an everybday carry though!!!
The hole is actually for a screw to secure a deep carry pocket clip. If you look at the end of the knife theres a slot. You slide the deep carry pocket clip in the slot and screw it in. And the hole is on both sides so you can have it right hand or left hand. I don't know if theyre selling the deep carry pocket clip yet. But I'm sure you could find out.
I actually emailed SOG customer service and they sent the deep carry clip out to me for free. It is basically identical to the deep carry clip on the Terminus XR
Snapped the omega springs on mine. I was very disappointed. I didn't know where to buy replacement springs. Just recently, the coil spring of my Flash AT-XR came loose. Instead of fixing that, I took it apart, took out the omega springs and installed them on my TAC XR. It works. At least I've got one of my favorite blades in my collection working again.
I handled one of these at my local store and it was grindy AF when opening and closing. Almost as if it had been over tightened upon assembly. Was excited to purchase this up until now.
I've noticed the missing screws issue in every pic I've seen as well. It's on a few other models too. Also besides the blade steel, the only other difference is the recessed steel liners in the G-10, the cheaper tac being unrecessed vs the pentagon and vision's doubled price. SOG seems to be coming around, just hope they adjust their overall pricing in the future.
The hole on either side on the Tac xr clip tip end is for a different pocket clip perhaps a deep carry. There is also a slot on that end of the knife for a different clip. Why SOG put it there and didn't really allude to it is a mystery.
