I have been finding out that Paper makes a huge difference with different types of color pencils too. Thank you for your Review on these pencils. Have a good day!

Great video Harry! 😁 I'm so glad your dad is recovering. That is always scary. I'm glad you took some down time for you... emergency trips are always hard on the mind & body. I hope you are doing better my friend. 🤗

Paper is always important when deciding what Pencil I'm going to color with in my coloring books or project that I'm working on.

Lovely to have you back. I did see your post about your Dad and needing to go to NI so I wasn't too worried. I'm glad you managed the trip and that your Dad is on the mend. I guess it was painful, but you did it. You managed quite a long trip. The colouring world lost one of it's stars this last week. A young Danish girl, 23 years old, just died of a blood clot. I loved her videos and her colour choices so it was a bit of a shock. It made me want to check in with my other favourite artists so I'm glad you have posted this.

I love canson mi teintes for pencil crayons, the layering is amazing. Those pencil looks great, shame I’m in the uk. Glad your Dad is ok, great review as always.

Rebecca Borowski hi Rebecca, thank you so much for your comment and stopping by the channel. I have only used Canson paper for Pastels up until this test but I was so impressed with how the paper held the pigment but wasn’t so incredibly toothy that no detail could be achieved. I think I will definitely be adding some more Canson paper to my selection of testing paper for my reviews. Thank you so much for your kind words.

Glad to hear your Dad is going to be ok. Take care of yourself too. Shame Aussies can't get these pencils too.

As far as this video is concerned I'm gonna go with what it says on the tin, which is that they're highly pigmented for superior lightfastness. ~And you can take that any which way you like~ Lol! This had me cracking up. :).Thank you for a thorough and indept review and for really making me appreciate the importance of paper. Glad your back and that your dad is alright. All the best :).

Another great systematic review which certainly does highlight the importance of the type of paper used, great but darn... how much paper does one have to get for initial trial and error!! It's fantastic seeing all these different pencil reviews but I guess for budget-limited people, it's bit easier to find 1 or 2 loved pencil brands and it's best paper or that 'shopping cart' could be endless! So this also helps with that choice (plus availability). Thank you and so glad your dad doing better... it's time for you to have some peace and better times ahead! (& please don't put your own art down; it's gorgeous!!) All the best to you :)

Megan McCarthy you are so right Megan but that is the reason I do these reviews, so that I can hopefully help people select the right product for them and the right paper etc. When I test a new pencil for review, I test them on Toned Tanned paper, Grey Paper from Strathmore, Bristol Smooth paper, Velum Paper, hot and cold pressed watercolour paper, Black paper, three different adult colouring books and depending on how hard the core is, I will also test them on UART Sanded paper. I only highlight the variations of paper if the pencil I am testing is significantly different on a particular paper as was the case with the Soho. In the case of the adult colouring books, I don’t actually complete a colouring project, I just test the pencil and see if it performs okay or not. I feel it is my job as a reviewer to test a product on as many surfaces as I can and different techniques as I can in order to provide the viewers and therefore potential customer with all the information they need to make an informed decision. To answer you question on cost, again it does cost a lot of money to have a wide range of paper laying about to test products on, but it is worth every penny if I am helping others to save money. However, I never used full pages when I test a pencil, I cut the paper up so I can get as much testing paper as possible without spending too much money. Being a disabled veteran with only my wife working, my wife and I know only too well how difficult life can be on a very tight budget, which is why I am so passionate about helping out via reviews. I know it is not much but unfortunately it is all I can do at the minute, if I was in a better place medically, I would certainly try to help out people more. Anyway, thank you so very much for your comment and stopping by the channel and I hope you enjoyed the review.

The Art Gear Guide Thank you for all that information! Wow, you certainly do go the extra mile with the paper testing and I'm so grateful in having learned much from you as is your aim, and chosen some papers, being budget conscious too with just me, a disability pension and a cat :) (who unfortunately has a funny habit of chewing on the edges of paper! Lol ....thank you so much again :)

It is bogus to use the word lightfastness to imply lightfastness...
@TheArtGearGuide
@TheArtGearGuide 6 лет назад
Mark Warren I’m not sure mate I understand what you mean. Are you referring to the statement on the packaging with regards to the Soho pencils being lightfast? Do you mean that just the scale grade should be used?

Hello Harry--I am new to your channel, having found you just yesterday. Jerry's is a great store and I am lucky to have one in my neighborhood, although for the sake of my wallet I try to stay away. My daughter ( a real artist as opposed to me, who just pretends) loves the Soho's. I find them a bit too hard so don't get as nice of a blend as I can with Prisma's. Thanks for the review!

Connie Wolff Hi Connie, thank you so much for stopping by the channel and for your lovely comment and I am sure your art is lovely. I totally understand what you mean about the Soho being too hard, that is exactly what I thought the first two projects I used them on, it was driving me made. But when I used them on the paper I mentioned in the review, they really were like a different pencil. Of course, they were not Prismacolor soft, but they reacted beautifully with the right paper being used. Thank you so much for stopping by the channel and leaving your comment, I hope to see you a lot more on the videos commenting and sharing your valuable opinion. As far as I am concerned on The Art Gear Guide, every single person who comments either here on my RU-vid channel or my website, regardless of their so called art grade or status, has something valuable to contribute. Everyone’s thoughts and opinions matter here on The Art Gear Guide and although I don’t always respond to every single comment, I really do my best, if not the first week, maybe the week after. Also as you are new, you are always more than welcome to ask me a question personally or anywhere within The Art Gear Guide platforms were other wonderful people who have made this channel what it is, will help you out. But as I say , if you’d rather as a question via email, please to anytime and I will always do what i can to ensure you get the right answer or put you in touch with someone who can help you. I value every single subscriber, casual viewer of the channel or reader of the website, without you guys, The Art Gear Guide would be nothing, this is something I will never ever lose sight of regardless how big the site and channel become. The viewers and readers are always paramount to me, which is also the reason I try so hard to deliver the most informed and accurate reviews. Look forward to seeing you about and can’t wait to see some of your beautiful art work someday.

Debbie Smith hi Debbie that is just the 72 set and I have linked them in my written review, but they are not very often on Amazon UK or even eBay which is a real shame, I’d love to see them stocked in the UK, same with the Blick pencils, they are really nice also but for us here in the UK, not so easy to get hold of. And I know we can’t have everything our own way in the UK, but we can be a wee bit greedy and wish 😂😂. Thank you so much for pointing that out Debbie and I hope more sets start popping up on Amazon.

Well Harry, why should you in the UK be better off than we on the other side of the pond. WE cannot get WH Smith pencils. And I like to hear that your dad is better now as well as you yourself.

Christiane Moellmann Christine I would swap WH Smith’s for Jerry’s any day of the week. WH Smith’s is very limited in what they sell art related. However, their colored pencils and watercolour pencils are quite good from what I can remember. I will actually be reviewing them soon, someone very recently asked me to review them. If you are really interested in a set of WH Smith’s pencils Christine I have no problem at all getting a set and sending them over to you, just let me know if you are interested.

I thought Vellum paper is usually not ment to be used with wet mediums? Made the same mistake by buying mixed media vellum,lol, that booklet thankfully works great for any marker and dry pencil unless not alcohol based. Water based pencils best used on wc blocks like a strathmore 140lb. Fabriano artistico holds wc as well But then again I mainly use wc: when I use my inktense I also use wc paper. Just because it has best result for it. I hope your head stopped spinning with evrything that is happening. Not like news over there is bad enough as is. hug for you and big compliments for going over to ireland knowing your own background a bit.
