Thanks Susan for the tip about not messing with the soil while still wet! I have a raised bed that's about 24 inches high. I plan on removing the wooden edges and spreading its soil/compost from both sides, making it a longer, shorter mound. Do you have any tips on how I can do this with minimal soil disturbance?

Hi there. Well, that's a bit challenging but doable. I would recommend doing it when the soil is fairly dry and perhaps place the top 6" or so onto a tarp first, reshape the rest of the bed, then carefully move the topsoil back onto the mound.

Susan, I'm over wintering a fern, but it is really pot bound. Can a person cut the plant in half come spring & repot the two parts of fern. It's in a hanging basket & that's how I purchased it. Lorraine

Good morning! Yes, absolutely you can divide it... and even into smaller pieces if you want more plants. Spring is the best time to divide ferns, whether they're in pots or in the ground. Use a knife to divide the plant and put each piece into fresh potting soil within each container.

My soil is frozen solid too here in MA. Is spring or fall the best time to put the compost in? Some garden channels say fall. Thanks for all your awesome videos.

Either way is good. I prefer the spring.

My beds are covered in leaves. Do I remove the leaves or add store bought soil on top of them?
@SusansInTheGarden

It depends on how thick the layer of leaves is. If it's not more than an inch or so, I would just leave them in place. If they're thicker, you could mix them in with the soil.
