This video shows how to find Water content, Void ratio and Degree of saturation. In this lecture a numerical example been solved to find the unknown soil parameters.
An undisturbed sample of clayey soil is found to have a wet weight of 300 N, dry weight of 260 N and total volume of 0.015 m3. If specific gravity of soil solid is 2.70. Determine the water content, void ratio and degree of saturation.

How did u come up with the answer 17.33 KN/m3, if u divide 200x10^-3 /0.015 the answer is 13.333333333.

The undisturbed soil at a borrow pit has a water content of 15 percent, void ratio of 0.60 and specific gravity of solids 2.70. The soil from the borrow pit is to be used for the construction of an embankment with a finished volume of 40,000 cu.m. The specifications for the embankment require a water content of 18 percent and a dry unit weight of 1.76 g/cc. Calculate quantity of soil required to be excavated from the borrow pit for the construction of the embankment. What would be its weight? What is the weight of the embankment soil? Send answer
