Ashley is an agronomist who has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
Some of Ashley’s interests are RU-vid, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s RU-vid channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her RU-vid channel as well as her reach to up and coming gardeners.

What a great project! :-))) LOVE THIS and you for putting so much time and effort into this for us! This was perfect timing for some spring time repotting! Maybe you could copy and paste a link on the website to a google sheet where you can change the settings so anyone with a link can view it but only you can edit (column titles aren’t fully visible)😋 It may be easier to view that way! I would personally use it more often if it were set up this way since I tend to reach for my phone when doing plant stuff rather than my laptop. The google sheets app on my phone would probably also allow me to see more of the chart at once which is great!

When we mix things into soil, we balance the ingredients with the mixing process itself, as all too often we crumble it up too much and then it starts acting like soil cement, to which the common advice is to mix things into it that make it more like cement, so there is always a balance. Right now our favorite batch of well proportioned dirt is in one of the garden beds, where it will stay until the next chance we can collect it to use for seedlings again, as the ultimate goal is to have established garden plants in all the garden spaces.

I love your channel so much, I want to access this sheet so badly but I can’t seem to be able to view it properly on my phone and I do not have a laptop lol If I give you my info maybe you could tell me what I need? I live in Maine, your neighbor to the south 😉, I have a fiddle leaf fig, if anything I underwater bc I’m pretty forgetful but generally I’m pretty decent at watering them once the top couple inches of soil is dry. When I do water, I water until water comes out of the bottom, let it sit a couple hours than dump the extra water. I use plastic pots inside of decorative ones. I do not have supplemental lighting (although I have been wanting to add some but with summer coming, that will probably be something I will add next winter). I also feed my fiddles about once per month with Botincare CNS17, I’m not sure if that even matters to the soil mix I make 🤷🏻‍♀️ anyway, I think that’s all the info that was needed for the sheet? Thank you for all you do and all the wonderful information you provide!!!

Hi Ashley, checking in from The Netherlands. You are awesome and your work is amazing! I've seen most of your video's, saved them and watch again and again even I don't have a garden anymore. I have few questions, if I may. I have a banana plant (witch isn't in your table) and I would like to use what I have at ghand: pumice, akadama, orchid bark, organic soil , sphagnum mos and worm casting. I'm thinking to use them also for my Alocasia Low Rider in a terracotta pot. Is it okay to use sphagnum moss instead of peatmoss? Worm casting instead of slow release? As a thea of soil amendment? You made me wish to be more creative 😀😃. Thanks again for your great work! Greetings from the wet, cold Holland

I completely forgot to mention that! Damn it. So the dark green is the sweet spot for someone who overwaters or underwaters for that specific plant.
