We are excited to bring you our first build video on our solar electric pontoon boat project! We talk about our competition with Zac and Jesse from @NowYouKnowChannel, the pontoon we chose for our conversion and all the components. We are using 5, BigBattery Raptor2 modules in this build (see affiliate links below!). The RAPTOR 2 was designed with safety, longevity, and visibility in mind. Not only does this battery come equipped with Tier 1 LFP cells, the safest chemistry on the market today, along with a state-of-the-art BMS featuring an automatic cell-balancing function, and a fire suppression system, but all of these advanced components are housed in an IP65-rated, vibration-resistant casing so you can work hard and play harder. But it’s not enough just to know your power is secure. You should be able to see it firsthand, and the RAPTOR 2 makes this possible. With an external battery capacity meter, and full RS485 communication protocols, you can stay updated on the status and performance of your battery with just a glance.

Glad they sponsored you. I’ve had them in our bus for 4 years using them offgrid 70% of the time. First year, I had to return two because the bms shut down. 2nd year, had to have one returned for a bad cell. Now in our fourth year, all five have failed capacity testing. I’m parked waiting for them to pick 4 of them up while I sit on the fifth one just so our rig can stay plugged in and operating. Hopefully, you have better luck

I would recommend bifacial panels as you can get a lot of reflective light on the panels on the water...

Afaik there isn't a manufacturer selling bifacial modules that aren't faced with glass... Glass bifacial modules would make this boat extremely top-heavy

Can’t wait to see you on the water! Let’s see a bit of the machining for the coupler and adapter please.

You really don't want to machine any thickness off that coupler OR the spline piece if you can help it. That motor is going to have a lot more starting torque than the gas engine did, and it's going to put a lot of strain on those connections. Any way to get it professionally welded to the coupler? Whatever way you go, set the controller's PID to reduce the rate of sudden power changes. (P↓ , I↓ , and D↑)

But what about it sinking under its weight in shark infested waters? Well maybe not sharks in fresh water, but have you ever seen the teeth on those Northern Pike? 😂
