Wow I can't believe you've only had 339 views. I've been looking for something like this for a while now. Julian Ilett did a similar video but this is closer to what I want. Can I ask, If those balancing boards come with more connectors? six or seven doesn't seem like enough. Can you use two balancing boards and connect them together? I've seen videos where they connect a resistor and an LED across a supercapacitor to stop it going over a certain voltage. Don't know if that would negate the need for balancing though. Don't really know very much about this stuff but I really enjoyed your video. If you're not using the balancing on the board that the capacitors are soldered on to, could you take it off and just use the caps without it?
Hi, neither can I, yt is unbelievably hard. Yes those boards come with cables. And you can unsolder the capacitors, but I find it most convenient to use them as is, assuming the board is not faulty. I really want to make more videos. But currently struggling with medical issues for over a month. Hope to be back to the workshop soon. Thanks for commenting and stay tuned... DD
Great VIDEO, question.Can the super capacitors be attached to external battery bank (2nd Battery system), be charged via solar or, car alternator via electronic solenoid.? Example: I have a second SLA battery system for my van. Currently is charged via main battery though, electronic solenoid and I can attach portable solar panel through 10 amp controller. I have a 1500 watt PSW INVERTER connected for any none 12v electronics. HOW CAN or will the super capacitors like you have there be attached, be charged via solar or electronic solenoid, and it's benefits.?
Hello, glad you liked the video. You can parallel supercapacitors to a 12V SLA battery. It would make the battery have extra capacitance. One benefit would be more powerful surge capability, possibly useful to help an inverter start inductive loads. However there are some issues, the capacitors need to stay balanced, and they should not be charged above 2.6V~ per cap. In my experience the capacitors go out of balance pretty easily. The supercapacitors also need their own fuse or circuit breaker for safety, as they can output huge amounts of current instantly. Last of all, I don't know if you would notice any difference with the capacitors in parallel, it depends on what kind of loads you are running. But this sounds like a very interesting experiment. Some benefits are not clear without some experimentation. Wishing you all the best, and thanks for watching!
