My husband and I bought some solar lights about 2 weeks ago .What we did before we put them in our garden . We put di electric grease on the battery connections and we removed the long tube light bulb and greased the connections . Ours do not have a switch and I am glad of that. We also got some aluminum tape and covered the underside of the solar lid ,this make the light reflect off the silver tape and make the light brighter
That's a bigger problem. The older units had a separate photocell that detected light. On those you could take that out and replace it with a new one. Most newer ones, I can't find a photocell on them. I believe that the circuit board is just reading the power input from the solar panel. And when there is no charging, it assumes it is dark so it turns on. When there is charging it assumes it is light so it turns off. Unfortunately it is probably time to just change it.
They are just called LED path lights. This one specifically is the Portfolio brand found at Lowes. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to stop by our website www.greatwhiteninja.com
Sounds like the photo-cell has gone out if it stays on all the time. Those are soldered into place, so I can't imagine it being worth repairing that vs buying new.
@@AroundTheHome1 I agree there .....I had a spare solar panel here but decided not to bother ......I done a fresh board for my mothers solar light a littke while back new board new inductor + driver inc new led ......and new solar panel..worked a treat it was more about seeing if it'd work OK. Bit of fun Good video mate
What if they won't turn off? By the time it gets dark they're already out of juice... I've had mine for a couple of months but can't return them because they were on sale.
If they won't turn off then it is probably the photocell gone bad. I mean some may have a switch that's all the way on, not only on at dark. But most have only an on / off switch. Hope that helps. Thank you for watching. Check out hundreds more of our videos at www.aroundthehome.org
The LED bulb is soldered directly to the circuit board. So, no to your question and normally that LED isn't burnt out. The problem is normally with the power, whether it is the switch or the battery. It depends on how your light reads the light. Older models used a photocell to know if it was day or night. I don't know where you could buy one small enough to replace. The newer ones, because I can't find a photocell on them I believe just use the solar panel and the circuit board. If it is charging, then light off. And when there isn't enough light to charge then the light comes on.
What do I do if lights are all brand new? Just purchased from lowes. Some turn on, others dont, some lights are dim some are bright. I tried replacing the batteries thinking maybe they were just on the shelf for a long time. Wiped the solar panel off.. Maybe I just didnt charge them long enough in the sun? i've had them for about 2 days now and they all don't light up together. Like I said, some work, some dont..
Well, short of just taking them back to the store, did you try this trick? Sounds like the switch is not making a good contact. Considering that they come from China they might have gotten a little moisture in them that caused a little corrosion on the switch. Thanks for watching. It sounds like the photo cell has gone out. Most of those are soldered right to the board so unless you are really good at soldering with circuit boards it's probably time to just get a replacement. hi, i dont see corrosion on my switch or battery slot but the bulb has rust around it....is that repairable? will wd40 help if i put in the bulb area to remove the rust? thanks
If yours is like the ones that I have then the bulb is soldered to the board and there are no separate contacts like old standard bulbs so the WD-40 probably won't do a thing there. Of course it won't hurt either. If you want to save this light then I would just WD-40 everything and give it a try. If that doesn't work, maybe the batteries have gone bad and you can buy some new rechargeable AA batteries, or whatever size it takes. But I would try to just put any kind of regular battery in it first to make sure that it can still work before buying new batteries. Thanks for watching, and I am glad to help. My problem is the battery is a 300 mah and I changed the battery to a 900 mah because you can't find a 300 mah battery but after changing the battery it won't shut off even cleaned up the solar panel but it won't shut off to save the battery for nighttime
Huh, I wouldn't have thought that the battery capacity would keep it from shutting off. Maybe the photocell was already bad with the bad battery and not letting it shut off, and you are just noticing it now with the new battery.
If you are switching the on off button and nothing happens, then it's just broken. I mean I guess you could get someone to wire in a new switch from you.
Oh, I see. Just the daylight not switching it off. Then your photo-cell or light sensor has gone bad. Again, you might get someone to wire you in a new one, but yes, getting a new one would be easier. Thank you for watching. Check out hundreds more of our videos at www.aroundthehome.org/
Sounds like the photo-cell has stopped working. Even though you could buy new photo-cell, taking it off the board and installing a new one is probably more work then it is worth. Thanks for watching and don't forget to stop by our website for many more helpful videos. www.greatwhiteninja.com
Now in 2023 solar lights don't last a year. The quality should increase not decrease. But it's just not like that anymore with anything you buy. And I wish these things were still $6 a piece 😂
