August 2022 solar production update. This was my first full month of being on Octopus Go and I did make use of the overnight charging for charging the EV and charging the GivEnergy battery.

I enjoyed this video, thank you. I'm currently waiting for a 4.2kw solar/9.5kWh battery system to be installed. I'm already on Octopus Go so I'm looking forward to working out how to best use this with the battery. Interesting you said you sometimes used it to partially charge the battery. I suspect the weather forecast will become compulsory viewing! It will probably make sense to fill the battery up using the cheap rate on dark winter days?
@daniel_coe
@daniel_coe Год назад
Most certainly the plan is to charge the batteries up overnight on cheap rate, and hope they last until the next cheap rate window. If not the household will need to look at perhaps trying to cut down our use, worst case work out how much extra electric we are using at full rate and if it's worth buying a 2nd battery. The weather forecast has always been a thing for me, either for astronomy, archery and now solar panels!

Standing charge should be intergrated to allow those without solar and money control their usage! Great video btw!

Just starting trying to get quotes for 6kw solar with 5kwh battery in Cambridge area now. So far no responses.....
@daniel_coe
@daniel_coe Год назад
Cambridge Solar were quite good at quoting, although I had to ask for them to come round. But they were more money than everyone else, but did offer a 10 year workmanship warranty. I also spoke to LCS Energy in Huntingdon - they fitted my EV charger.

Great vid cheers Daniel, I’m just waiting on my install date of 12 panels, 9.5kw battery and a 5kw slave, so have been waiting intently on your progress, I’m toying with the idea of a water heater or electric boiler, but need to do a fair bit more research on them before I take the leap. I have seen some better prices for export than 4.1p on Go though 🤔

I was looking to compare my production. Thanks for video. You live for saving ATM which I understand as I was keen as well. Overall about the same per month on 3.6kW cap (890kW), but your Jinko seems to produce slightly more then my 2-3 years old JA solar. I can not watch all your videos so what model do you have? I would like to figure out what panels produce more per the same illumination. Older and newer JA solar looks the same on paper but different is massive and I wonder if it is just date of production. I am east midlands and my new JA solar had more then twice of your production on 25th. and I believe it was very similar for whole UK. I wish there is more people posting detailed production and model of panels to figure out which is the best for next upgrade ;). I would like to do it as well soon but really short of time. Keep going, very useful.

Hi, I believe the Jinko panels are Tiger N-Type 66TR 390w Mono-Facial all black. I've put an image of the specs sheet in the community area of the channel. ru-vid.comcommunity

It’s not possible to come to a meaningful conclusion about the output of a pv panel by comparing different systems in different locations. My system is 7.5kw and produced 792kwh in August with 10.36kwh on the 25th. That is 106kwh per kw of installed power for the whole month, whereas Daniel’s system produced a smashing 145kwh per kw. There are so many other factors (inverter, roof inclination and orientation, ambient temperature, solar irradiance, partial shading of the arrays, to name a few) that affect the output of a system.
@maxinozka
@maxinozka Год назад
@@serraios1989 You are right, location matters even if there is overcast in whole country however I can see twice of production on the different panels which are the same on paper. Other components in the circuit won’t have such a significant influence. Whole production is not important as I was interested in production while overcast. Yes his system is pretty effective but my aim is max out production while overcast and nobody taking this into account ( comparison will be great from people living close to each other ). Better specifications from producer will be handy. Thanks for answer and thx for model Daniel.

You might find interesting reading a bit about inverters. String inverters with MPPTs, dc optimised inverters, microinverters, inverter saturation (“clipping”), hybrid inverters.
@serraios1989
@serraios1989 Год назад
Thank you Daniel. How does the output of your south facing array compare to the east one?
@daniel_coe
@daniel_coe Год назад
A single 390w panel on the East since installation at end of March 2022 has produced 279kWh, the same 390w panel on the South has produced 308kWh.

I've seen someone making a lot more on export by using octopus agile tariff.
@daniel_coe
@daniel_coe Год назад
I think they definitely can make more on Agile, I'm just a bit unsure about it at the moment. I suppose if you manage it and dump your battery to the grid in expensive times and fill it at cheap times you could make some money.

A great spec - but shame you decide on the Chinese panels. Jinko impress on paper spec but the longevity isn't there. I'm an installer and have had several Jinko and Trina panels start to fail after the first 8-12 years. (connector corrosion, connector failure, delamination etc.)

I have ordered today 10x405w JA Solar panels, 5kw givenergy inverter and 5.2kw battery plus installation. 5kw inverter because I'm planning add 5 panels next year. What do you think is the givenergy good choice ?
@daniel_coe
@daniel_coe Год назад
Sounds good, why not have all panels up at once? Also just make sure the 5kW battery is going to be big enough for your needs now and in the future. You can add more batteries on later, but they'll be priced at the full VAT rate. I've had no problems with my Givenergy set up so far 👌

@@daniel_coe thanks for info about that vat. So in first instance I'm going to 9.5kw battery, there was just 1000 pounds price difference between 9.5 kW and 5.2 (real 4.6kw usable because is 90% just) so again thank you. My house is south west so I have sun on panels litlebit later that's why I choose bigger battery too. Looks like 5.2 was not big enough because even fridge freezer for example will be like 3-4kw over no sun hours so will consume full battery. 9.5 will be overkill little bit but will last for longer I think because less deep discharge

Yes, I think you need to phone them up now for everything. But can still tell them the code over the phone to get your £50, or email them and tell them, or even enter it in your online account once it's opened - I think you can do that up to 14 days after the switch.
