The Matjhabeng Local Municipality in the Free State has re-assured residents that all the major projects lined up, are for all residents of Matjhabeng irrespective of the area they live in. This was said by the executive mayor -- Thanduxolo Khalipha, when responding to claims by Ventersburg residents that a solar project earmarked for Ventersburg was diverted to a nearby town of Virginia. The community alleges the project was introduced to them by a local councilor, with a certain number of community members promised to be hired. But, now the small community of Ventersburg is angry because they claim the project is about to relocate, before it could even get off the ground.
