Might be easy to build a square framework with 2x's to place between the posts when you set them, then leave it up until you get the first panel in place between the posts.

Greetings from southern Missouri. I installed the same rack system, with 10 panels. I found after fastening everything in place that it was a bit wobbly. Also to adjust the angle for summer/winter would be hard as each beam moves independently. So what I did was add a 1 1/4”x1 1/4”x3/16” angle iron across tying all beams together. I installed one at one foot from the bottom and another at one foot from the top. Now everything is solid and I can adjust the beams as one. Making it very easy to adjust angle. Just a thought for you as you have a larger setup, it would make it a one man job to change angles.
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience Год назад
Hello. Mine is solid the way it is installed. There is some flexibility but not much. From my understanding, this system is not made to be movable after installation of the panels. It is not sold as an adjustable system. You set the common angle per your latitude at the start and that is it. I am not going to change the angle of mine. If you are always moving yours, I would check with the company to see if that will interrupt the engineering specs.
@jerrym1893

@@CountryLivingExperience Greetings, for my rack, the beams have two holes for bolting to the posts. One of these holes is elongated for angle adjustment. For my area the summer angle is 32deg and winter is 78deg. for optimum sun. I believe for the Dallas area it is 34/80deg. So to obtain maximum benefit of the sun I change the angle twice a year. I have a Time Tracker with 15 panels that rotates and tilts through out the day and with these 15 + 10 panels I operate my 2800 sf house and pole barn on total solar. I have a Generac off grid generator for backup, but only need it if we have 2-3 cloudy days in a row. Glad your system is working out for you. Just wanted to share my experience that made my rack easier to adjust. Keep up the good work!

It looks nice, though I'm not a fan of the solar panels sitting lengthwise between that. I'd be more comfortable if you used unistrut or some sort of c-channel to span these and then mounted the panels to that. It would also give more flexibility with panels if you ever wanted to replace a panel with something not the same size. It works so I am not knocking it. This just requires too much precision for me :)

Hello, Country Living master. I'm in Concord, NC, and looking at ordering the Solar Powers ground mount shown in this video. As it stands, SSolar no longer handles the product. However, I have contacted Solar Powers and they will sell direct to me as a homeowner. Problem is, they offer no help in designing for the order. I'm trying to prevent waste while assuring I only have one shipping fee. I'm building a 4x4 rack with 39x74 panels. It looks much like a fit for what you have installed. Now, I know you must be loaded down with requests for guidance. Yet, I bravely ask for any help you can offer in filling out the order form sent to me by Solar Powers. Perhaps just an inventory list of the parts as they arrived for your project. There are so many components to this stuff, that my poor old brain is getting fried. Anyway. You make great videos, and that alone is a wonderful help.

Gotta be a way that these things can be designed to be more flexible in terms of upright placement. Around here, you can't just drill holes in exact locations like that due to the ground being 90% shale of varying sizes. That would definitely not be a DIY project here, even with my tractor and PHD.
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience 10 месяцев назад
There are different types of systems for different places. There is certainly no “one size fits all” solution for a panel racking system. I am sure Powers Solar Frames has multiple solutions for different places. If they don’t, someone else must.
@MiserableOldFart
@MiserableOldFart 10 месяцев назад
I did a little internet searching. I'm sure there are solutions more appropriate for this area. Solar panels are springing up everywhere here in upstate NY. I believe that the BEST path to real energy independence is home installation of solar, with rooftop being the best of the best.
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience 10 месяцев назад
@@MiserableOldFart Solar is great for independence for sure. I would rethink rooftop panels for several reasons. I am an Architect and don't recommend putting a bunch of holes in your roof. The roof is one of the most important components of a home because it protects everything else. Additionally, many insurance companies frown upon roof solar and will raise rates on houses who have them. Lastly, when you need to replace your roofing material, you will need to hire a solar professional to uninstall the panels while the roof is being replaced and then reinstall the panels. Go with the ground mount if you can.

Once again being the lazy boy that I am I would have done it a bit differently. steel studs are somewhat cheap. I would have gotten 4- 2x4xx16 studs. Mounted them between the uprights that you dug the holes for, with C clamps this would have allowed me to raise or lower these uprights and hold them in place along your string line. It would have kept them from rotating as you mentioned. Only then would I have poured concrete. What to do with the 2x4 when done? cut them for cross braces between the uprights. As time goes by, you will understand that your rails and overall design are not fit for purpose. You are using the panel frames as part of tbe overall structure support and this will break the seal between the panel frames and the actual glass because the improper support will allow the whole structure to twist and bend the panels in the wind.

@georgedoherty962
@georgedoherty962 Год назад
@@CountryLivingExperience I don't have the same system but I have built ground mount arrays since 2006. Our Atlantic coastal winds need beefed up supports and rigidity because if there was any spring or give the wind would just keep hitting till it's own weight ripped it apart. Your method of clipping the panels to the purlions is good but the purloins should be braced together at each end to keep the panel frames from parting company with the glass. The wall on the purloins is only about 3mm, those 2 bolts that attach the purloins to the uprights are too flimsy to withstand a force 8 +. It does not cost much at this stage to insert strengtheners and bracing. I have watched storm winds trying to suck up panels from our own house array. The glass was sprung concave up and down for hours on end. I was glad that I had doubled up on the engineering side.

Western sun that is later in the day is stronger. Lots of research out there on this topic. Some who don't have a good South facing area often utilize West facing.

One thing I heard from Curtis Stone's channel is that facing solar panels 10-15 degrees southeast is beneficial for off grid systems because the batteries are more likely to discharged from the previous night and catching the morning sun helps get things charging sooner. In the summer there's plenty of surplus power later on in the day.

Wow you pissed yours in One direction I face mine and three four directions all my solar panels do good I got them facing south I got on face and East I got to face some West my rough my best part of my roof is east and west my East side and what time doesn't seem to get so much power but in the summer time to get power from 5:00 in the morning till 4:30 in the afternoon weather at West only gets power from 2:00 in the afternoon maybe noon to about 4:30 in the afternoon and then get some shade for a while then gets two more hours of sunlight maybe less when the sun's on the west side and in the winter time my east side seems to get more than my west side and my West side only gets sent to 4:00 in the afternoon this is when winter is but my East gets so the power from what 7:00 in the morning to 2:00 in the afternoon myself side gets from 7:00 in the morning till 4:30 in the evening in the winter time.
