Thank you all for watching. I listed a few of the checkout systems I use in the Video Description. And If interested more in Craftybase and trying it out for your inventory, expenses, recipes, finished products, orders, etc... check it out here: craftybase.com/?rfsn=3998285.284c79&ref=blacktiebarn I also have a video overviewing Craftybase in the video description :)
OMG! I so needed that checkout hack🙏🏾that sounds so much easier. I will definitely be using that idea. I made small 2 oz scent samples to display in front of each candle, but to add that extra decor idea is awesome 🤗 Great tips overall! Thank you
You don't know how much I appreciate your transparency sr! God bless you and I wish you so much more ❤️ you deserve all good that comes your way for helping others with your wisdom! Thank you so very much! 😊😇❤❤
Your merchandising is awesome! I haven’t given that much thought yet. I’ve only made 4 vessels so far 😂. I’m working towards next fall, so I have a lot of experimenting to do! I’m glad you had a successful event!! Thanks for sharing 😃
Congratulations Wade, glad everything went well, thankyou for sharing was so interesting and very informative.i always look forward to your videos your the best on you tube
Just wanted to echo what everyone on here is saying - really appreciate the effort you put into relaying all this information to us. It’s amazing the amount of knowledge and inspiration I’ve gained from watching your videos. Thank you Wade!
Great in depth video as always (really enjoyed the merchandising and simplified checkout sections!) Btw many of the topics you highlighted are exactly the same across the pond in "sunny" England and I'm glad it's not just me that runs out if stock haha
That is amazing!! I am anxious of doing any sort of pop up in my city as I do not see it do well... Not sure if it is where I live but with these tips I might reconsider doing one!
16:50 oh my, that is 1 gorgeous candle, "Black Violet & Saffron" In a purple vessel, i think that's the size i like? i want that🥰 hoping your website is up by Christmas. i bet it smells AMAZING!!
What would you recommend to use to transport your candles? We do more outdoor events than inside. We've used coolers but the lids would get scratched, and so we switched to cardboard boxes, but they don't last. We've recently upgraded our vessels and the boxes just fall apart. We're in Arkansas, so humidity and weather plays a big part in transportation.
I noticed some candles had dust covers while others did not. How do you decide which ones get the cover or lid? I've been binge watching your videos all week and very much appreciate your transparency about the candle business. I'm still in the testing phase and hope to start selling some product by Christmas. thanks 😁
Hi Wade, its that dam English bloke again. Hope you are having a good day and getting on with your new premises. On this video you have some dark I assume they are jars not pottery that have a candle called Wilderness in them. Could you say where you got them from. Not seen anything like them in the UK. I better get back to the video"Candle Making With Gorgeous New Tins + 3 Scents & Labels", I spend more time listening to you than my girlfriend. Have a great day.
Hey Wade, another great video, thanks for sharing. I really like those white “frosted” vessels. Do you remember where you got them? How much wax do they hold?
Thank you so much Wade for sharing all you share!! I have learned so much watching your videos!! We are doing our first fairs this year! :) We have been doing wholesale the past year and have done well. Just a couple questions.... there are so many events to chose from-gulp lol. How did you start in picking which ones to do? I tried looking at doing ones that have a good amount of vendors signed up, 40 plus and asked if the traffic has been good in previous years. Do you think that's the best way to do it where we are just starting out and don't know a lot about past history of events? Also is it best to do events that have just a few candle vendors? Lastly I absolutely love your matt black and matte white vessels would you mind sharing where you got those? Thank you again so much for all you do!! And a MASSIVE congrats on your show!! Loved your set up!!
I think for me I just did as many as I could when i first started. I wasn't paying too much attention to expected traffic, etc. If it was affordable I gave it a shot. If it wasn't worth it afterwards, I didn't do it next time. As you get experience, then you can start being more selective based on traffic, costs, and competition
@@BlackTieBarn Thank you so much!! We signed up for just a few for this year as a lot were full! Will see how those go and sign up earlier for next year! :)
Wade, you know how retailers just scan the code on the product? Can't we do the same thing? It can print out a receipt for the customer fast and integrate with the retailer's inventory system. I have no idea of how we might be able to do the same thing on a smaller basis. Do you know of any systems we might be able to access?
Yes you can but you'd need to barcode them or something which I didn't have time and I would have them different from one event compared to online store for example. So just never something I've done to this point
Congratulations Wade that’s awesome, was that gross or net btw? When moving your candles do you keep the boxes your jars come it make it more easy? Your display is so awesome it does legitimately look like a little store! Also don’t you do candle reviews? Could I send you some of mine and get some professional constructive criticism so I can improve from it? I appreciate it
Hi Wade, Alex again from a wet and windy UK. Watching another video to gain more valuable information from you. I have a question on how long as a rule of thumb fragrance will remain strong in a candle. With say Xmas being the peak selling time and when you want to concentrate on getting orders out how long in advance can I make my candles. thanks Alex
It's up to you how quickly you want to get candles out. They tend to get stronger over the first couple of weeks. But don't worry about the scent fading after that.
Wade. How did you go make candles through the night and then sell them the next day without them curing. This has puzzled me so I have ask the question on making candles 101. What is the secret and can you tell me what wax you’re using? I know you use the pro blend for your wax melts but what wax are you using for your candles? And how did you make them through the night and sell them the next day very curious and want to learn how to do that. Thank you, April Stinson @ArticLights&Scents
Hey April. I'm on the road and just stopped real quick for gas. But I answered this or similar questions a few times in the other comments about curing etc. Check those out when you can. You can still sell candles even if they haven't sat a specific amount of time yet.
Thank you for responding..i always watch you channel. I started back in January and just now launched and when I saw this video it really sparked my interest. Someone on my post said Ask Wade, I’m sure he will tell you… I;lol check out the other comments… keep up the good video’s and sharing. This time next year, I’ll be right there with you sharing my stories… :)
Pretty much. Also during is quite debatable. Sometimes i notice a difference... other times not All. And it isn't as if the candle would burn or perform.... just might get stronger if it sits. But to be honest... it's much better to get a customer a product they want even if it should sit a couple more days rather than having nothing for them
By FAR the most useful video in this topic I’ve seen on YT. Thanks for taking the time, Wade-especially as I know you’re crazy busy rn; so this is just one more thing on top of that. As always, your commitment to providing knowledge and value to the community is unsurpassed. I hope you know how much we appreciate you!!
Planning out my first big holiday event and am grateful for the info you shared here. Really helping me hone in on some of my systematic processes and offerings. Very grateful!! Congratulations on the huge outcome and big things headed your way.
As always... awesome video that is extremely helpful. Just wanted to say... my last 2 craft fairs... I followed your advice on the "u" shape set up and it worked and flowed so much better.. meaning sales were better too, so cannot thank you enough for sharing your personal experiences and tips! You have helped me grow in many ways as a small business owner and candle maker!!! Thank you Wade for being awesome!🤩💜
People have been so cautious when spending in the UK this year - it's been terrible since around April so my stock inventory has been getting smaller and smaller. This video has given me an extra injection of optimism and some fresh ideas to try at my crafts event this weekend. Wish me luck!!
Hey Wild Venus, I'm in the uk as well and i'm a maker. i get what you mean. Keep pushing through and keep sourcing good shows so that you can see that profit.
@@fifidefreitas1045 aww thanks! Well I did the weekend show and Sunday was the worst sales I've had since July 😭 its hard to keep smiling through it but I tell myself it's just the recession and it's not personal! ❤️❤️❤️
I'm so thankful to have in-person vendor events booked every wknd from now until Xmas 🙌🏽 One takeaway from this vid I will implement right away is having holiday themed decor or fragrance themed decor on my table. Thank you for all your nuggets of wisdom Wade!
Honestly, best thing I did was buy a barcode scanner to integrate into my POS. I'm a small maker, I sell around $15k of candles in an entire year. I can process almost $2k per day in a show with my barcodes and the scanner. Also, yes, I use Square POS.
I love your videos Wade, so glad you made this 1 too, so much good info, I have been loving testing wicks & wax & vessels, i have decided to keep testing & researching for a full year before launching my business, I really think that's the best way to go, i think i will be more successful if i do this as i know you did something similar & you seem to be doing great & i can't wait for your website to be up & running.🥰
I'm so glad to hear you say that! So many people jump in way too fast and it's just not good and can be dangerous! I know the time spent can be frustrating and expensive, but you will never regret that you took the time! Best Wishes to you!❤❤❤
@@Jane-West thank you so much for your comment, yes i have noticed people jumping in way to fast & in such a hurry to launch their business & most times its not a pretty outcome, there is so much that goes into candle making, its not as easy as it looks, yes its a little expensive but testing & researching is so very important & if you love candles as much as i do, it is so very worth every cent.
@@greekozygirl599 I know, they are beautiful. I do ok my background is in art but sometimes I don't get it right. I did make a Harvest color that I gave to my friends and called it Barbie Puke.
I really wanna sell candles at my local festivals but I'm super nervous to do it, especially the money side of it cause of thr scenario of if I run out of change lol
Thank you so much for all your super informative videos! I have a question: I've heard that soy candles need to cure for 10-14 days.. so how do you navigate that issue when having to resupply stock the night before selling it? Are you telling customers to wait 10 days before burning or are they really ok to sell right away if needed?
I'm brand new and I'm planning a table at local Expo in November. This has helped me a lot. Taking the money will be the most daunting. I am surprised to lean that you pour overnight - what about curing time?
Its a myth, I have learned, 12 hours is enough. i have a 20 year old candle that looks & smells like the same, as when it was gifted to me, 20 odd years ago & its not a small candle.
During helps us candle me makers ensure we treat the products for proper wicking and performance weeks and months later. Doesn't really mean they dont work before that. At least never in my experience. I do tell customers if they are freshly made and that they may be a bit stronger if they wait a few days. That's usually good enough. :) great question
That’s awesome Wade!! I swear you never cease to amaze me with your videos. Love you knowledge and your willingness to share it with us. A huge THANK YOU!! I’ve been soaking everything up and taking notes. Thinking of starting to sell in 2023 no date yet maybe September. Your knowledge is invaluable. I’m not one to jump in and go. Research and testing over and over. I know you have A LOT going on and wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you and all you do.
It will depend on a lot on your fragrance. Some throw well from day onez otherwise need longer regardless of wax. And some just are weak in general. But 6006 has a faster turnaround for sure. Even provlend 600 and provlend 400. Depends on what wax types you are willing to use
@@BlackTieBarn We produce paraffin candles. not soy wax. The scents of our candles are strong. Since we produce it in a jar with a lid, a very intense paraffin smell occurs when we close the lid. suppresses the essence. how can we solve this.
I saw that your candles were stored upside down in the boxes. Is that a recommendation or just made it easier to apply your warning decals? And where do you purchase your colored containers? Thanks Wade! Love the channel!
What an awesome review of your event! This is so helpful. Wade you are such a wealth of knowledge, and have so much great experience it is tremendous that you share with all of us. I heard a quote somewhere that said we aren't in a competition... you should be cheering on your fellow craftsmen that make what you do. In the end it helps us all! I really believe that is true. Thank You !
Thank you for video……. It was really helpful to understand the flow for events, setting up, merchandising, eye catcher items, dos and don’t. And Pro tips…. Really appreciate you sharing the video
Awesome video🎉🙏 Would there’s still a need for crafts base if you had Shopify ready and checking out with their POS? Is half profit an accurate projection on what you made from the show? How much profits you plan to be above of and keep to make a promotion worthwhile? 🙏🙏🙏
I think shows are beat for experience and exposure. Hard to quantify that in terms of value. But.... if I can profit 50% of the revenue I think that's great. Craftybase isn't a pos so not related to shoopify, etc. It's for inventory of raw materials (and finished goods), material valuation, cogs, expenses, managing recipes, etc.
Congratulations on another successful holiday market! I ordered from your website. What size are the bubble wrap pouches you use to package at this show? 6x10?
Thanks! I think they were cost too 6x8. But honestly I just had them from the jars... i didn't purchase them separately. Although i might, they were super handy
I loved the 6 button you had on your POS in order to speed up the buying process. I also use crafty base and my question is when the sales show up in crafty base. How did you break down the inventory that was sold so that your inventory count is accurate?
I do not import square sales in CB manually. It just ads more of a mess and extra work. I enter one "show receipt" into Craftybase when the show is over. And the manual iunventory I took before the show and then again after tells me what to put into CB as what sold. :) So much easier!
Wade thank you for such an informative video. May I ask where you get your shelves? Love the set-up and the last show I had recently I also did the U set up and the sale of buy 3 get 1 free! GREAT ideas for me, they worked wonderfully!! Thanks for sharing your wisdom!!
Hi Chelle. Honestly I can't recall exactly what they were called or where I bought them. It's been several years. But nothing fancy about them. They don't collapse or anything. Basically just basic metal and wood shelves. Actually I'm pretty sure it was these. :) amzn.to/3hMHwoa
Excellent video! 2 questions: When you run out of product and make it on Friday to sell Saturday, do you ever worry about the CT/HT? Where did you get the white vessels like your Frosted Juniper candle? 🤔
Not really. I'll let customers know they will get little better with time, but it's not like they don't work or perform at all ya know. I think most of the time people put too much stock into cure time. Not saying it doesn't help but I'd ear a customer get what they want and it improve with time then for them to not get anything at all. White vessels from aztec
Wade can i just say, you pay your employees AMAZINGLY!! I heard that number😍 Kera must be happy as Larry but i bet she did a lot, she seems very enthusiastic, I like her I loved the video you did with her, I learned so much. (I hope its the same gal, otherwise my face is red😅
The tax rate is the same for everything. So just total sales x .075 (for 7.5% as example). I also included the sales tax at the time of the order. Sales tax has nothing to do with specific scents or items just total sales.
Hi Wade. Your videos are both enlightening and transparent. As candlemakers new and old, we thank you for your service. Truly, some amazing insights, tips and ideas in this video. My question relates to the covers you have over your candles without lids. I've searched everywhere but cannot find them. Could you please tell me first, what they are called, and secondly, where I might source them? Thank you so much. 😁
Thanks so much. They are just called dust covers. You can get then plain or custom if not using another label. You can find them all over the place. But I got these from vonzcrafts on etsy
@@BlackTieBarn Thank you so much. At least I now know what to search for. I was putting all sorts into the Google search - "candle protectors," "candle covers," "covers for candles without lids,"...🤣🤣🤣
Most just get an email receipt from the system on the spot (if they want)... many don't want a receipt at all. In the past I have always printed them if desired but forgoy my receipt printer. Lol
