Was it really worth paying the extra to have this rather than a Morris Oxford? The Oxford was all my dad could afford but he said that he loved it 😪

My Dad drove one for the local Taxi company just like that one but a yellow stripe , being a taxi it was a bit naff and could be difficult to start he popped home for an early morning cuppa and had problems starting before he got back to work the Postman gave him a shove and away he went realised something odd after about a mile or so. Not the right car!! no radio telephone for a start and when it got light wrong colour! Being keen he took his fare to the station then returned home and collected the Taxi. The owner never knew his car was used as a Taxi as far as I know.

I had one in 1979 my going to work car my other car was a 71 Dodge Challenger that I would never park in the firm's car park but the thing was for some reason I loved driving the Cambridge more than the Dodge.

I have the "same" car in MG-version... (=MG Magnette Farina Mark III (1959) with twin carbs and wooden interior) I like the BMC Farinas... 😊

I had a 1962 model in 1968, lovely inside but very very slow, it would take around 30 seconds to get to 55 mph, its top speed, no doubt this is way better..

jrgboy You said you had a 1962 model. But it's not clear for me whether you had the A55 or the above model A60. Can you please clarify? Is this car very slow and sluggish? I knew that the acceleration was little poor but I cannot believe that the top speed is only 55 mph. Even the small 948 cc engined Truimph Herald had a top speed of 68-70 mph whe new. So the top speed of this car should be higher than 55 mph. I think it maybe 75-80 mph. Kindly check again. Sorry about the late comment.

Never liked these cars. They were sluggish, uninteresting, and the oil filter element was a nightmare to change. You can keep it!

Miseryguts you are Janice Watts! Some of us like these cars, they are British built 100% & it is good that this car is sold now & somebody rather than you will get to enjoy driving it around!

Matthew Lovell: This is obviously a fine example of a classic car, but....for many years I was in the motor trade (since leaving school in 1962 ) and serviced a multitude of cars of that era. Some I liked, some I did not. My point is that If you did not like , for example, the Austin Cambridge of 1964 vintage, why would you like it any more in 2020? My all time favourite car was the Ford Escort, (Mk1 and 2),. Easy to service, easy to tune and modify, which I did frequently. These are now selling for upward of £10,000 for a basket case. No way would I pay that kind of money! My current love is a 1986 Toyota Carina II In almost showroom condition, (it still has the cellophane covering on the rear seats!) below 40k miles, and which I 'stole' from a 90 year old gentleman for £100 ten years ago. I would not part with it for less than £2.000 now. PJW

Janice Watts I think that you are an expert motor mechanic. Was this Austin Cambridge A60 model that bad!? Wasn't it that the previous model A55 better than this model!? My grandfather owned one of that A55 model Austin car here, a long time ago, and used it until he passed away in 1966. At that time it looked like a very good car to us.
@janicewatts5888
@janicewatts5888 Год назад
@@janath9118 I would agree that the A55 was probably better, but being employed by a Rootes group garage in those days meant my own car of choice was a 1956 Hillman Minx. The oil filter element change was a doddle.😊

@@janicewatts5888 I noted your message about the recommendation of Austin A55 over A60. I also agree. I like to tell you that here in South Asia where I live, there were a lot of A55's on the road at that time. So handsome looking. The A60 model cars came in very less numbers compared with A55 Mk 2. Ah, were you been employed by a Rootes group garage in those days and was your own car of choice a 1956 Hillman Minx? I was told that my father had a Hillman Minx of early 50's make. Was that oil filter changing in some car makes a difficult task? Thank you for replying me!

Served my apprenticeship working on British Leyland garbage. These where truly gutless motors, suspension kept you bouncing down the road like a shuggy boat. The same as the Morris Oxford, true rust buckets, absolute trash.
