That super jumbo is super sweet! I have a 1996 Hijet. It's a TwinCam like yours but 4WD manual with Hi/Lo transfer case and no A/C. I'm going to "paint" it inside and out with Monstaliner bed lining, the same shade of gray you used, so this was a bit of a preview for me which was much appreciated. Looks awesome!
Hope you post your truck on your youtube channel, will like to see how it turns out! Is that bed liner stuff DIY or have to take it somewhere to get done? We tried the DIY stuff before and it doesn't hold up well over time so we send our bed liner work out to a place that specializes in bedliners.
@@JapStarImports - I started a Hijet Hijinks RU-vid channel to document my Hijet project, starting with purchasing it online, the import process, picking it up at the port, repairs, maintenance, lots of upgrades, etc. I have some crappy handheld camera raw video but haven't edited it yet. My goal is to convey useful information for those interested in buying and owning a kei truck, and not to become a RU-vid star. I did *A LOT* of research on bed liner. Many of the bed liner that's mass marketed direct to the consumer is not very good, including some well trusted brand names. As is the case with painting, surface prep is everything. Wire brush or ScotchBrite the paint to rough it up and get to solidly adhered material (and obviously remove ALL rust and prime bare metal), solvent wipe to remove wax and oil, then mask the parts that don't get bed liner. Plastic parts may need an adhesion promoter. Check with the manufacturer. Plan on a solid day for prep work, then another day to apply two coats of bed liner. Monstaliner doesn't have any chopped rubber bits to create the texture. Instead, the texture is created by adjusting the air pressure to the Schott gun (sputter paint gun), or by the surface texture of the roller and the timing of the rolling. For thicker texture, wait 30 minutes for a partial cure and use a fresh roller to roll over the surface to create a heavier texture in the thickened polyurethane. Change rollers often to avoid roller breakdown with small chunks of roller ruining the surface finish. Monstaliner has good tutorial videos on RU-vid. Durable professional results can be achieved with some care. If the results are as good as I hope, I'll Monstaliner the exterior of my black 2005 4Runner.
