Hi Kul ! I used to own a lot on Winlaw Creek. I still regret selling it. Such a warm friendly spot.

The village of Winlaw is cute and unique, but there are no jobs, no industry, too many mushrooms growers, jacks of all trades, and people who have invented just about anything to survive. It also happens to be very remote, far far away from any major urban center, far from building supplies and the land is overpriced mostly because of its touristy potential or sheer beauty, hence the need for elaborate marketing to retain the promised value. The South Interior of BC is a touristy brand name, food for the eyes. Having said that, Winlaw is definitely nice for those with money who simply love the village feel, the area and the people. The place is for anyone who likes the idea of self-sufficiency and clean well-defended rivers in a relatively mild Canadian weather. The community surrounding Winlaw area is very warm indeed, lots of art, dance, expression and no shortage of creative thinking all throughout the entirety of the West Kootenays, in particular the Slocan Valley and the small city of Nelson (30 min from Winlaw). If I had a considerable amount of savings and didn't have to worry about securing new income sources while developing that land of mine and wasn't outraged by the insane prices of basic supplies and provisions out there in the beautiful Kootenays (due to understandable transportation costs), I'd move in hands down.
